I can’t remember all the details now, but I used Porsche GT seatbelt brackets for my 172 Cup. The thread is still on PH and I guess that would go with your Porsche appreciation, if a bit more pricey than some other options. I just wanted to know that the job was done properly with decent quality parts. Wish I’d never sold it... like nearly everyone else who’s ever had one!
Got a link for that at all please fella? smile

The wheel is new but the release is from the Impreza. My Impreza wheel still hangs in the garage. It’s suede so no good for a daily.

Trust me I want those bloody seats in. biggrin

So my Christmas update.

Since the rebuilt box went in, I’ve had an intermittent notchy engagement of 5th gear. I couldn’t decide if this was due to the PMS linkage not setup correctly or if the synchro was fked?
All synchros and bearings were renewed so seemed odd to me. Had a chat about it with Alex at AWM and we hatched a plan to investigate.
Long story short, the 5th gear synchro was new, but the selector gear was very worn indeed. These are NLA from Renault so Alex came to my rescue with a used item from a low mileage box. Subsequently with the minty new item fitted, no more crunch.

As I’ve been collecting parts to fit for ages and hadn’t had time to do any of it, I thought Christmas would be a good time to get some bits done. My main hitter that had been annoying me was sorting my bent sills out due to previous poor jacking.
So without going into too much detail, the skirts were removed, cleaned, all areas checked for corrosion, sills repaired, DEOX coated, Electrox coated and then sealed with paint before a final coating of Dynax UB. I had previously given the bent sills a tweek so the before photos aren’t actually how bad they were. This is annoying as during my first ownership of the car, these were flawless.
Still it’s all clean and protected now and should preserve the car for many years to come before I have to have it painted.
Also gave the underside mechanical bits a liberal coating of ACF50.

Lastly was a full brake overhaul, Brembo all round, cleaned and greased all sliders and a fluid change for some fresh RBF600.

I did buy new handbrake cable too but the Pagid ones do not fit the 182 so hard refitted the originals for now.

Just read from the beginning.
Great dedication here.

Let me know when you sell a car next.
Don't care what it is, just give me first refusal!

Haha. Many thanks.
Funny enough, the first time I sold this, I had about 6 potential buyers fighting for it.
Sold to the first person for full asking price before he even viewed it.
I guess I just try and take car of my cars as best I can. I love this old girl and want it to live forever. Haha

Cheers Adam, make sure you get a thread up for it if you haven't already. Great colour is RB for the little 182. Look forward to seeing your progress with it smile

I had many years in an Inferno Clio 182 and still miss the thing to this day. I managed to get a hold of a new one with only 8 miles on the clock back in 2005 when they were just about stopping production. Mine was 1 of 8 full fats in Inferno, with the Recaro seat pack.

One of those things I had to sell when I moved to America, after 88 thousand happy miles. I believe the bloke who owns it now isn't driving it a lot. A good mate of mine contacted him and tried to buy it back for me but he wanted something daft like 10 grand.

Perhaps one day when they are 25 years old I will see if I can import one over. I think it would be hilarious to have one of these roads.

I'll just enjoy my Z4M Roadster for the time being.

Thanks to @Amos91 for the heads up on the Borg & Beck item for the NSR. I can confirm WZD is now wearing new handbrake cables and the Borg & Beck item is really decent quality for the money.

Nice to get this job finished up and the brake overhaul completed. So have her a quick once over. 🙂

Also delivered was my 4x brand new genuine OEM Trophy centre caps from RPD, these were purchased as I’m planning a wheel colour change too.

Small but satisfying job this morning.

Since fitting the new steering wheel, particularly with the snap off hub, it places the wheel closer to the driver and as a result, a little higher than before. This is fine ordinarily, but as I will want it lower when I get the Pole Positions in. (Yes yes, I know I need to get them in)
I set about sorting some spacers to drop the steering column.
Just a 5mm spacer is more than enough time get the wheel much lower than before.
If you have an aftermarket wheel and also think it sits too high, I can highly recommend doing this. Takes about 5 minutes and makes a huge difference to the feel of the car.

Wants to be given the delay in getting those seats in! hehe

On a more serious note, it’s looking really good. Love the wheel but not sure on the shifter.

Shifter is so much better to use after some tweeks. It feels so much better positioned and as it’s all on spherical & roller bearings, the shift action is akin to a CAE.

It’s certainly makes for a more focussed drive.

I think it will look odd with the shifter and wheel until the seats go in to be honest.

On the plus side, the kitchen does have some basic seating biggrin

Frayz, I was having a tidy up this weekend and came across these painted bullets from my old 182 bean. Would they be of any interest to you?

How do they drive after refreshing bushings etc? I've driven them on occasion over the last 14 years and going back to when they were a few years old they felt great, engine nice and eager. most recently my old friends 172 with supposed cams and that CAE knock off shifter. Just felt fked to me like it had lost half its power, didnt feel like it loaded up well in corners. Everytime I get in one they have felt worse and worse. Maybe because I had a megane 275 at the time though

Looking at a flame red 172 with 2118s on flea bay at the moment that's had a fairly generous amount of work done to it by the look of it. Lot of bushes refreshed. I might go buy it. Be interested in your thoughts if you have 2 mins. It's a car I've wanted since passing my driving test almost 15 years ago

Edit .. its panderoos car on CS

This Was my mates...

To be honest, Panderoos car looks to be a decent little example. Has had all the right bits done and enthusiast owned.

Im still mid way through refreshing mine as im now looking at some adjustable dampers but i have to say i love how it feels. Its small, light and up on its toes. Yes they have their rattles but they did from new, they're just so alive.
Ive just resorted to the fact i cant see me selling mine anytime soon so will do whatever i can to make it as good as can be and my idea of my perfect road/track style Clio smile

So recently I had found the beginnings of some corrosion on a couple of areas of the car.
The worst of which was what I considered significant bubbling around the fuel door hinge.

Also some micro blisters were also starting to show where the rear bumper meets the steel arch and under the tailgate handle.

These were all barely visible but I could see some pinhead blisters starting to appear and decided I’d catch them early and not let them manifest into something more.

Annoyingly I didn’t get any “Before” images except for the fuel cap area. The hinge was worn too so I decided to get a whole new Genuine Renault unit and replace it.

While the rear bumper was off it was all treated inside and out with Waxoyl.
I’ll be adding further Dynax to it too, and some small padding to the contact points of the bumper to prevent reoccurrence.

In addition to the paintwork on WZD, I've had myself a little bit of an expensive week.
Last weekend I found myself a few beers in a had a bid up on some brand new Speedline 2118s.(as used on the Clio Cup cars)
I got them for a great price, but like all these things, they were about get a whole lot more expensive.

Expensive because, i love the look of them but need to have be car sitting correctly to wear the little 15” wheels but don’t want to compromise on handling.

Therefore I started hunting for some decent quality dampers. Most out there I wasn’t convinced by, and as my car is almost 100% road car. I wanted dampers built to my spec that I could run big pistons and soft springs that would be compliant on the road but offer exceptional chassis control. I want the car to still be able to move about but ride bumps and undulations like a properly setup chassis should do.

Having done as much research as I could on the options available to me for the Clio 2 chassis I found myself looking more at the offerings from AST. This was then followed by a considerable amount of time discussing spring rates and valving with Simon and Josh @ AST Suspension.
So have ordered a set of their 5100 coilovers specified by Josh Cook, of which are in build now and expected to be delivered at the end of Jan.

Remember Frayz, it’s just a daily, just a daily.... #facepalm
