If it helps, I had mine refurbished as part of a reluctor ring replacement about 5 years and 50k miles ago - still seem to be working well (touch wood).

The sensor they replaced didn't last that long, but the driveshaft is good smile
Have 2 new BMW sourced sensors to go in when the refurbed driveshafts go back on the car - both the sensors on the car currently have some wear evident but with non contact with the reluctor rings I'm getting no Traction, ABS or Tyre Inflation errors

My Mate Will was whinging about his 760iL leaking fluid again and how his sons 4 cyl BMW is dry as a bone

I replied and thought I share it here

Yeah multi-cylinder BMW's really aren't designed for people with OCD about any fluid retention.........

I've come up with a theory on why the 3/4 pots cars don't leak - my theory is the ability of the BMW engine to retain fluids (once that base line of 4 cylinders is exceeded) is number of cylinders squared.

So with a 6 cylinders it's 36 times more likely to mark it's territory.

With 8 cylinders it's 64 times more likely to leak like the Exon Valdiz

Quite frankly Will my friend, you are fked with a V12 because it's 144 times more likely to piss oil out and really you don't want gaskets or oil seals you want Red Adair biggrin

If it’s post-2001 it will also blow up long before it gets chance to leak any oil. wink

Is it even a proper BMW if it’s not leaking from somewhere? laugh

No it won't!

My 124K mile 2005 330i has had a cam-cover gasket and an oil filter housing gasket, but is still leaking somewhere (possibly sump gasket). It hasn't blown up though. laugh

I think Jake was referring to the 4 pot engines post 2001

Correct! My 3 series is on 206k and my old man’s X5 on 270.

I’d still love a V12 though, two of my favourite engines joined. Yes please!

They do have a bit of a cult following - quite a few owned on PH

Worth a look on BBMW forum to see if any are for sale?

I'm sure CourtS previously had a drop top 125i he'd probably be best to ask about any issue with the roof etc

If you get stuck you could always add the E9* 3 Series to your search as early ones had the same N52 engine.

I'm on my second now!

issue with the e9* is the age of them they swapped engines in 2007 i think and the mrs deems them too old really she thinks even 2013 is getting too old smile but she likes the look of the coup and the vert so getting some wiggle room considering it will be mainly her driving it and im pushing her this way

she wants a polo frown

They really are brilliant little cars - never driven a cab but my Coupé has been superb in the nearly 10 years and 120k miles I've owned it. Just as happy mooching around as it is down a B-Road and it's been pretty reliable despite the local potholes best efforts to kill it.

We're likely to be buying an M135i later in the year, but our 125i is staying.

What’s the situation with parts? For example getting hold of stuff like driveshafts etc if you want OEM ( looking at Iain’s update above )

I've not had any other issues for parts other than the driveshaft (and I could get 1 new OEM just not both)

BMW are normally pretty damn good - I don't think there was anything I couldn't get for my 99 740 when I was getting that back on the road so I think the driveshaft is a one off............ (Hope it was)

Ah cheers - I’ve still got my 2.5ti and found parts are still readily available so was sorta wondering before I jump if I see my ideal spec 135i coop
