Thank you, but my brother has all the gear so he did them for me smile

Worked on these today. I couldn't get the aluminium tape how I wanted it, but it will do for now, just don't look too closely! biggrin

I think they look good, but being Mr OCD I will redo them at some point but other things to do first! I did look at the machined look by using a scrubber etc but didn't bother.
No prob! Glad you got it sorted thumbup

How come you didn't just give the caps a couple of coats of spray paint and a clear coat? Does that tape/vinyl match the rest of the wheel?
I did consider that, and may still do that. As the originals are like this, I wanted to match them (to a certain extent!) but with the red logo.

I did give them three coats of lacquer and they're not as shiny now, but I'm not happy. It will however do for sometime.

Gave the engine a good wash today, was so much hidden leaves/seeds in there! It's definitely sat outside a lot of it's life frown The rocker cover is flaking like hell, so I will get round to it.

Hopefully will get the spoiler on this weekend.

Got the spoiler fitted last night.

Not bad for a £69 painted one from Taiwan! Fit is excellent as is the paint match.

Really happy with it, gives the rear end much more purpose I think.

Thought I'd update this, more for a record for what i've done to look back on, but also inspired by the great s2000_f20 readers cars thread.

Done a lot over the last few months, filmed a lot, but did get some pictures too.

So from fitting the spoiler and seeing s2000_f20's work, I moved onto removing the wipers and scuttle panel, I will paint the wiper arms, but still not got round to it yet. As expected, this was full of leaves and junk, but I vacuumed it all out with the shop vac, cleaned it all up, replaced the cabin filter and reassembled.

I then whilst in cleaning mode, decided to get to the hidden bits in the engine bay. I removed the battery and discovered that the battery tray was quite rusty, and the panel below needed some tlc, so I removed this, rubbed it down, treated it with Hammerite Krust and painted in Hammerite smooth black.

Next up, I decided to take on a mild suspension refresh. The compliance bushes were cracked and worn, a common problem, and also the suspension arms etc were very rusty. So I decided to have a crack it.

I started by removing the shocks

Then onto removing the upper and lower control arms and the drop links. The upper arms came off fine, I also photographed the position of the camber and caster bolts to give me a rough reference point for reinstall. I soaked them in WD40 the day before.

Now the passenger side compliance bushing would not come out. This is a well known issue on S2000. You can get the bolt out, but the sleeve collar the bolt goes into, which passes through the bushing, over time fuses to the bushing, which makes getting the arm out impossible without some cutting, burning or other methods.
The stuck item is C in this diagram.

I decided to go the cutting route and out came the sawzall. After 20 minutes of cutting and 2 blades destoryed, it finally came out.

Thankfully, the drivers side one did actually come out.

Next was to start trying to preserve things. I'm not looking for a showcar, so it's not pretty, just something that will prolong the life of things. All the rust was wirebrushed off, treated with Krust then given a coat of Hammerite.

I then had the task of removing the two stuck compliance bushes. I could of taken them to a garage, but being I like to learn as much as I can as long as I can do it properly, I bought a 20 tonne garage press. I have a 205 gti that will need wheel bearings and bushes doing at some point, so it will pay for itself. I have video but no pictures of me doing this, but heres the press. Excuse the sideways pic!

Next I refurbished all the bolts removed, cleaned the threads and treated. I managed to source the collar I needed second hand which was good as they are not cheap!

Onto reassembly, this was quite simple, I also fitted some new drop links. I used the jack to lift both front corners at a time to put load on the suspension before torquing everything down.

Front wings and bumper.

Ever since I'd bought the car, I new the front wings weren't great. They'd been badly repaired previously and I didn't want to get them repaired and reshaped, so I managed to source some second hand wings that were in good order and recently been resprayed. At the same time the guy had a front bumper with the headlight washers removed and smoothed over. Now S2000 headlight washers are a love or hate thing. They don't look as good with them IMO and they are more powerful than the window washers, so when you wash the window, the spray you get from the headlight washers covers everything even if adjusted properly. Being a car that is a weekend car and dry weather from now on, I don't need them.

Front wing removal is all bolts, you just have to be very careful of the other body work. Each is held on with about 8 bolts.

There was a ton of muck hidden behind everything. Hoovered, cleaned and made sure everything was ok behind. Treated little rust spots where needed.

Here you can see the old wings and the bad work. Whats hard to show on camera is the uneven curve you see on the outside and the wavy filler.

The replacement arches are a slightly lighter shade, so I will need a front end respray when funds permit. I think they're actually more correct than the wings that were resprayed on mine before I had it. They also had a load of graphics on I needed to remove first, thankfully a heatgun and patience sorted this. Whilst I had them off I also rubbed down and undersealed them with

New arches and bumper fitted. Now from some angles it looks fine. But a side view from a distance you can definitely see.

Next was to tackle the rear suspension, which I didn't want to rebuild just rubdown and treat.

I also removed the rear bumper and looked at the crash bar. Yup, needed doing too, along with brackets etc

Next the arches. These are a common problem on S2000, especially early ones. Seems I managed to catch mine just in time. Removed the dirt, rubbed them all down, treated and sealed.

That brings things up to date.

I had a full alignment done once things were rebuilt, MOT'd and passed which was great. Feel better now about the car, just need that front end respray.
Next job is to remove the rocker cover and have it stripped and recoated in crinkle red along with the coil cover in crinkle black.

Thank you, it was one of the reasons I bought it, however I think when it was repair from the light damage at the front, it was resprayed slightly darker.

I've claybarred and buffed most of the car, but not the new parts.

The alignment was done at my local garage here they have a full rig and did it to spec. Down the light I may get a slightly different adjustment. But seems great!

Lots of graft there, car looks better for it. You caught the wing just in time too; my passenger side is too far gone, so I’m waiting for new panels which are due later this year...hopefully.

Thanks, you're not wrong, hours spent in the garage, plus I have another car I'm working on. But easier not having kids!

Yeah the rear wings were surprising, glad I stripped them back. Before I had it the car lived outside most of it's life hence why all the suspension etc was rusty af so did get lucky.

Spent some more time today on the S2000, this involved removing the rocker cover and coil cover.

The rocker cover is flaking badly, a common issue, and since I've cleaned up the engine I think that lets it down.

I was a bit surprised the rocker cover was dirty inside as the oil is always so clean. But the top of the engine looks fairly good. I'll change the oil before we're all allowed out again.

Given a quick clean

Can see how badly it's peeling. Had to be very careful not to drop any flaked paint into the engine.

It's now packaged and being sent to Spooner restorations for a complete strip down of the paint, etched primer and red crackle paint finish. The black coil cover is also getting the treatment, should look great. I will also get some gaskets and bolts to freshen it all up.

My suspension corrosion makes it looked like it was parked in a lake...currently battling a rear trailing arm bolt that has welded itself to the subframe. Yay.

Have you seen after pics of the red cover refurbed?

My Impreza sti inlet looks to be a very similar colour and nothing available these days is the same colour.

Just wondered if this company had a good shade?

I haven't yet no, it's not even been collected by the courier to send it away.

I don't think I can link here, but Spooner restorations is who I'm using as a few owners have given positive feedback. Can't comment on my experience apart from them being helpful so far!

Sorry, poor wording. Really I meant if you’d seen one refurbished as a reference.

I’ll give them a google.

Thanks Gio, she went to her new home yesterday. Sad to see it go after doing so much to her, but sadly I couldn't keep both.

How's yours running?

Hope the new owner will treat her well..

Going well thank you, my son is running it at the moment, so doing very little miles in it. Had a nice road trip planned with it, then Covid happened. Hope to do something next year..
