This thread is making me look so much better with my wife smile she knows of all my cars!

However she is sitting there looking thoroughly disapproving as I laugh at and read out some of these comments!!! biggrin

Having said that in the last month she has suggested getting a classic car and a Caterham or similar so she is pretty good really!
Keeper that one biggrin

Where?

There are also a few other points that I can point out bad rust repairs, i.e someone blowing over them with a can of Halfords finest silver paint.

Thats why i posted the photo i can't see any rust repair, thought you would point it out?

i think its realistic to expect any 20 year old car to have rust and touch ups whatever sales puffery is said.

I don't buy cars long distance now off ebay as you really need to see it before hand, too many people see a car and get that romantic thoughts about it, considering it is nearly 20 years old i would expect it needing money spent on it.
At the bottom of the rear screen, there are repairs that just aren't right. There are many like that around the car, not all visible in the pics. I could see that particular issue in the enlarged pics on ebay, took it into account, and it wasn't so far away from where I live that it wasn't worth a look. Unfortunately, at the time of bidding I was working away in the south, was unable to view, agreed to leave a non refundable deposit, did so when I won it, and lost it when I chose not to buy it for the reasons outlined in a previous post.

I expected to spend money on it, would have done so had the expenditure versus required result been justified, and went in with my eyes open, as I've done many times before. Lost count of the number of cars I've viewed and not bought over the years. If you buy a car for romantic reasons, you are the definition of a fool and his money...........

I kind of think that the fact that he kept your deposit showed what sort of seller he really was. The guff in the advert, was and is ( it has been relisted on eBay) dishonest.

If it is any consolation, I went to look at a car a few weekends ago, after half an hour chat on the phone being assured by the seller that it was in "collector status" condition, only to arrive and put my finger through the sill.

8 hours wasted and the most horrible drive of my life crawling down the M1 in the rain at an average of 20mph.

Well, let's see what happens........he's had 10% deposit, £200 of which is the non refundable part. I can live with the £200, that was agreed. He said he'll refund the difference. If that doesn't happen, I'll take that amiss, but I've no preconceived ideas about that, it's a wait and see. As it stands, if he manages to do this a few times, he'll be able to sell the car very cheaply based on all the deposits he's taken allowing him to do so! He looked genuinely crestfallen when I told him it was a no sale. We noticed on the drive home that it was re-listed within 20 mins of us leaving.

It's one of those, I won't dwell on it, just look for something else. I'm not really searching for anything, but things like Corolla GT Twincams, Honda CRX VTECs, Elan M100s, always get my attention in the ads. Finding good ones of any of those is a challenge these days though.

I might change my Boxster 987.1 for a Gen 2 with the less potentially troublesome engines, but if it happens it won't be through making a huge effort to do so. My Mk1 MR2 is back home this week after a 3 year break in the 'burbs, and I'm looking forward to getting it as mint as possible and using it. The Evo will remain, it's irreplaceable.

My other half has been unusually reticent about sticking the knife in over this, but there's time yet, there's a Gen 2 Boxster with 21k miles that "I've accidentally stumbled upon " on my watchlist now, so the whole saga may begin again midweek! I'm going to look on ebay to get an idea of what stab vests go for, better safe than sorry!

Well, no refund yet.......given he's got bank details, and could have transferred any time since Saturday, how long do I give him?

I think you've been pretty generous already, it should have been in your bank account before you got home. Frankly it's taking the piss it's been this long.

he has the right to hold it until it is sold, and deduct any costs incurred as well as if he sells for less to keep the whole lot.

The agreement we had was 10% deposit on the selling price, £200 of which was non-refundable. The selling price was £3900. As far as I can see, I'm owed £190. Frankly, given the state of the car, the answers given to specific questions asked when compared to the reality, and the wasted time, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect a decent seller to refund the lot.......

The car got to £3400 the last time I checked, then disappeared before the end date.........not sure what costs he might have incurred that would excuse him refunding £190? Especially given he said he would without being prompted.

still haven't told her, she's going into orbit when she hears about this. Paid the deposit, just got to find a way of making a few grand that's about to disappear from the account look like it's still there!

Going into orbit.

Really really tickled me.

I sold one of my 5 car fleet recently as I didnt use it and it was just sat there depreciating (I was made to sell it agaist my will, but I came round to the idea). Sold it to Bramleys. Came home and moved some of the cars around in the garage. The wife walked out to find me on the phone to a private seller for another car and she didnt speak to me for two days!

Thought it best to let her cool down a bit before I go and buy anything else.

Glad to hear it's not just me. Best of luck with your domestic troubles! Mine's always ready to kick off, and not just about cars, although that tends to be the main event. I'm looking at bikes again now, which is something I haven't done for many years, but I like working on them. This however will pretty much guarantee her going bismark again, although I'm always in the st for something, just the depth that varies. At least this will be for something I'll enjoy.

We're in Crete on holiday at the mo, she doesn't know that I sneaked multiple items from my MR2 into a bodyshop for paint the day before we came away. Coincidentally, and possibly fortuitously, I've just been messaged to say that my Ford Connect, which had a split return pipe on top of the fuel tank has been fixed and is ready for collection when I arrive home. In the conversation with her about the van bill I'll massage it in order to assist in hiding the heinous cost I envisage the bodyshop bill to be.

You don't have a currency exchange rate??

I have Mrs BC pounds and GB Pounds - the exchange rate fluctuates a lot but if I had to pin down an average it would be roughly two Mrs BC pounds to a GB Pound but like I said it depends on the cost of the item and how much I need or want it biggrin

My biggest fear is if I passed on she would ebay parts for what I said they cost biggrin

I mean at that point I wouldn't care I know but it would still piss me off..............

Yeah, it would appear you have a system I can relate to. But, rather foolishly, haven' t yet implemented! Note to self. Must try harder! Thanks for the advice, I'll be taking it on board. Your experience and wisdom in these matters is gratefully received!

Head up however it's a freaking slippery slope................

Oh there is an upside - when Mrs BC's colleague says it cost £350 to get a stbox corsa an MOT and she says how much is your MOT and you say £40 but that's because I spent £200 on the car during the year keeping it in tip top condition she's happy that my hobby actually provides good value..............

They were £200 Mrs BC Pounds.............

Exchange rates vary

You've got a lot of style. Mrs BC is a lucky girl! biggrin I've really been very slow on the uptake here viz a viz putting a self preservation/defence mechanism into place. Thanks for the heads up on the cricket box, btw, useful addition to the armoury.
