Isn't it just?

I too got a bed in the back for a couple of Billing shows over the years, but I think most of the photos I have are on Photobucket which may prove tricky to link for 99Chimaera if he wants to see the various stages of disrepair it ended up in.

NO F*CKING WAY!

That was the Carlton I bought in 2008, for £99, and ran around Europe on several rallies described a few pages back, sadly scrapped in 2012 after it had more rust than bodywork left. Bought it from a Polish guy around Bournemouth who had used it to transport all his stuff from Wroclaw as it was cheaper than hiring a van or shipping it, apparently.
WOW!! A small world indeed! wink. I've known the car from new in 1993, my Dads company bought it, they ran it until about 1998/99, in 1994 it was used to carry my stuff along with a bed! to my student flat in Gloucester and it was used again to move everything back again in 1995.
It was given to me in 1998/99 with 130k on the clock. when it was replaced by Vauxhall Omega estate. I can remember driving it to a very swish new years eve party to see in the millennium.
I used it for my gardening business, I also took it on a camping trip. It was nice car to drive. Very comfortable.
I took it to my local garage, with a problem, I mentioned that I was thinking of selling the car, When I rang to see if the car was ready, the bigger had sold it to someone else!! I was not amused, I was given a cheque for £1000. That was it, the last time I saw it. This was in 2001/02.
Interesting to hear what happened to the car.
I was surprised to see that it lived until 2012!
Yes if could send the photos that would be
great.

Thank you - glad you enjoy my ramblings about cars that have pretty much disappeared

What I will do is give a bonus picture - the Irmscher kit and Irmscher wheels that I never fitted ended up looking like this

If you want to see the full restoration/upgrade then I hope I'm OK to post his photobucket story line

I certainly did, I read it all from start to finish on the train to Middlesborough.

A readers ride thread on the lotus would be great

Sorry it's not going to happen - I might put a bit more detail in here but it's not getting a thread of it's own - if I put a bit more detail on here that would probably become clear biggrin

Seeing this at RRG last year was a highlight of it for me. I was stood behind whilst you turned the tyres to smoke.

The vid on Tiff slinging it around is just so cool too. He makes it look easy!

This is bringing back good memories for someone who's been out of the loop a while. Glad you still have VVF. Never knew XLO had ended up with you, it was my first Monza! Carburated 3.0S, 4 speed manual, tweed trim, keepfit windows, no passenger mirror.

Just when I thought this thread couldn't get any better, it just has! laugh

Now I'm just waiting for the next update - an LC has to be the best car to ever wear a Vauxhall badge!

I see a few pages back you mentioned that chap Richard - did you also see he (I believe) appeared to be having a bit of a sale of Carltons and Senators? idle browsing on Car & Classic found 1x Senator 4.0 and what I assume to be an even rarer Carlton 4.0 Estate?

Brilliant thread!!! Read it from start to finish in a few hours.

Really want / need to hear more!! Haha

I had an MX5 that I owned them sold to a pal then sold for him that our other halves were never really sure who owned it.

I always caveat my car buying habit with the following: “well I could be doing drugs instead” think that’s wearing a bit thin 😂

Great read thanks for taking the time to share your entertaining history.

The LC is fascinating as it stayed with Lotus did they tweak it some more than the production car??

My dad had a humble Carlton GL lovely car until it developed a horrible electrical fault.
Has the Monza been featured in Total Vauxhall??

No it was the same as any other LC they built - except they missed some parts out which have since been retro fitted so people can't tell it's not a real one biggrin

Was it a non starting electrical fault
Spot on re the non start. Drove my dad mad as he’d go out to start it and it wouldn’t comeback in have a coffee and go out and try again.
From memory he had tracks re soldered on the ECU which cured it for a bit. Maybe another ECU I’d have to ask him.
Then it broke down on holiday and the AA came out and found something and cured it. So I’d love to know what the problem was, just to see if I can jog his grey cells. Lol

This story just gets better haha

So is the LC the original motorshow “prototype” or why is it not considered as a one in the log book?

Can’t wait to hear the reason they were so keen you won the auction, assuming you are going to let the cat out of the bag!

Awesome thread!!

I’m a little confused apologies.

Is your car one of the prototypes? Why did they not change on log book.

Would love to know why they wanted you to have it.

Such a great read so far

Great reading.

I would like to hear the rest of the story on that lc when you get chance. smile
Interested in why it's not classed as an lc on the log book, is that all the cars or just this one ?
