Low Mileage Toyota MR2 MK2.
Discussion
Mark, this brings back such great memories! As I look at your photos it could very very easily be our MR2 from the early 90s. When we sold it, the chap that bought it said that it would have very little use as he was a small-time collector - so it could be...
If the chassis number finishes 50, engine number 85 and original reg YN then please reach-out and I'll be able to share, via private message, copies of the original paperwork etc.
If it isn't our old car then you are very lucky to own it in the great condition it is - if I'd have seen it I would have snapped it up to relive my youth...!

Thanks again for the kind comments, advice and interest in the thread.
B'Child...it will be driven, just sparingly and only in good weather, but rest assured I will enjoy it and drive it as intended.
TimWick, it is not your car I am afraid. Glad it bought back good memories and yes, I do realise how lucky I am!
and nice wheels Kuro!
Anyhow, I have been busy...
Frunk cleaned and then waxed and components, which you never see because they are behind the panelling, cleaned...
Then it was time to start putting things back together. I have cleaned all the plastic panelling and dyed it with forever black and it now looks factory fresh.
I also spent an age polishing this...
And it now looks like this...
Refitting the lights was not too bad, as warned by SonicShadow, an adjustment had to be made after the first attempt, but they align just fine now.
I also got to work on the front bumper with the dual action polisher and this is how it looks now.
Slowly but surely, I am getting there and getting to where I want to be in terms of what I envisaged for the car. I have quite a lot left to do, but I can honestly say I am really enjoying doing this and learning a fair bit along the way.

Thank you mossy and I am sure that one day you will. They are in that strange place of not quite being a classic and not being modern enough to see regularly, so for the moment are still attainable in terms of price.
Just noticed that this is now on the front page of Pistonheads as readers car of the week. A good day has just been made even better and I feel honoured.

well deserved - mainly because you are going to drive it - if it was going to be a highly polished trailer queen to be paraded round as a "perfect example" I'd have voted 1/10Just noticed that this is now on the front page of Pistonheads as readers car of the week. Congrats on finding this un-molested example! ....they are becoming a rarer sight on UK roads nowadays, will be keeping an eye on ur journey...mine started 15yrs ago and she still puts a smile on my face....my tip ...even with the low mileage on your example check for worn/perished bushes and swap out for poly items to rejuvenate the handling ! In the meantime here’s another set of period split rims to consider ...work equip 16”
If you boys want to see an MR2 magically transform from rolling wreck to museum piece look no further.

Stevie, sorry again bud and if it is any consolation, I didn't get that much off the asking price.
Ok, on another note...I've found some very nice wheels. Recently refurbished.
Correct PCD and all that, in size 16", 7 fronts, 8 rears and the buyer said offset is roughly mid 30's, does this sound ok for an MR2?

That's a polite way of putting it!
The Rev1 was a ditchfinder!
True. The Rev1 was how race driver Dan Gurney set the car up with Toyota. It’s an awesome drivers car provided you know how to drive it and is so rewarding through the corners. Unfortunately the inexperienced were caught out so they lengthened the toe arms and fitted bigger alloys to tame it (and lost the magic) The Rev1’s also didn’t have power steering which gave much better detailed steering feedback. The Rev1 was a ditchfinder!
Honda did the same with the s2000. The Rev 1 is the purest set by the Gan San around the Nurburgring. Then they kept fiddling with the geometry and putting bigger alloys on it for the inexperienced who kept crashing them.
If you want the purest drive go Rev1. If you want safest go rev 3 onwards.

Very Nice indeed!
Can I ask what size those Work wheels are as I have just happened to have found a set of exactly the same model in 16 x 7/8 staggered fitment with offset mid 30's.
Congrats on finding a set 👌🏻😋👍Yep mid 30’s should be bang on ...mine are same spec ...16x7 front (close on front callipers)16x8 rears ...be super careful with the centre caps...fragile and nigh on impossible to replace ....Can I ask what size those Work wheels are as I have just happened to have found a set of exactly the same model in 16 x 7/8 staggered fitment with offset mid 30's.

Thanks for the fast reply. Very much appreciated.
So, a little mission up the motorway to collect the wheels tomorrow. If they are as good as the advert suggests, then I will be happy.
Centre caps appear OK! After searching I see they are selling for 300 on their own!
Will report back.

I have Work Equips, the offset you need for good fitment is ET35.Ok, on another note...I've found some very nice wheels. Recently refurbished.

Lower than this, you run the risk of needed spacers as they will be too close to the caliper. This was my experience anyway
Though I consider this

the Clio would annhilate any MR2, no matter the revision, or engine type. In fact, most cars would struggle to keep up. You'll sometimes see articles in magazines claiming they are giant killers and this is very much true.
....fighting talk, I absolutely cannot criticise your approach and your eye for detail. That's a nice car and it's gone to a good home. Hope you enjoy it.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
