So... I am going to put my hands up and say I have been rather stupid regarding the work equip wheels.

The faces/centres aren't supposed to be rear mounted, i.e behind the barrel, they are supposed to be sandwiched in between the lip and the barrel. I am rather embarrassed that this hadn't crossed my mind previously.

On a positive note, this increases the offset and I've worked out that the wheels will stick out about 25mm in comparison to the standard wheels, which will actually see them sitting nice and flush, without causing issues.
Well I'm quite relieved cos they looked to me like they were gonna fit nicely biggrin

yes - Wheel Body Construction.

Have you measured* the actual offset with the wheels correctly assembled yet?
The link I posted earlier gives the figures you should be aiming for.
Plug the actual values into this bespoke calculator to find out what your clearances will be.

Hopefully the results will pan out. Those wheels are far too nice to be let go. smile

 * See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWoj6HDU028 (skip from 0:30 to 3:55 it's not relevant with the wheels already off the car).

HTH.

Thanks for your help RedDevil.

The offset is +25mm.

That very useful site says that they will be "2.35mm tucked in from flush", which on standard suspension, I can't see being a problem.

25mm is 10 more than the the ET which is the 'norm' on a stock bodied MR2 with wider aftermarket wheels.
Be aware that you may find that the tyres rub on the arch lips at any decent lick on poorly maintained roads.
The only way to find out is to 'suck it and see'.

If they do, you have a choice: flog the wheels or get your arches rolled.
The latter needs to be done by someone who knows what they are doing or you risk the paint cracking.

You're also creating the potential for an even bigger rust trap.
Which is why I haven't gone down that route and settled for a higher ET number. smile

ET25 assuming 7inch front and 8inch rear (common 16inch staggered widths will sit nicely. Rear clearance at the top of the arch *may* be an issue, depending on the tyre fitted. Front shouldn't be an issue at all.

I'd suggest a 205/45 front and 225/45 rear if its lowered, but you may find going up to a 50 profile will fill the arches better on stock suspension height.

Cheers for sending me this way Matt, lots of good advice and some inspirational attention to detail from yourself!

Looking forward to seeing the finished result and hearing how she drives smile

Worse than dreadful. Just why? Toyota must've agonised for hours looking at hundreds of designs to come up with the right thing. What makes anyone think they can come up with something better?
I'd like to know how many pairs of beige trousers this man has

Glad to hear Zingrock and cheers again for the advice, Sonicshadow and RedDevil.

I think it is just a case of a test fit...but I hope they fit...I really do...

So, with the paint done, the frunk done...it's engine time now...I will be taking what I can out, to clean and then access areas which I previously couldn't clean, if that makes sense.

Started with the rear heat shields.

There was a fair bit of rust and a lot of tarnishing on them. So I wire brushed the rust off, then used a scouring pad with metal polish and then a drill polisher with more metal polish to get rid of the very fine scratches.

This took an absolute age and I haven't even finished it yet as I still have tarnish marks in some places, but even though it won't look "standard", polished heatshields, in my opinion, will look awesome.

I haven't posted in a while so thought I'd update.

Car engine bay has now been cleaned and it's basically ready for a full service which will be done before the end of the year hopefully.

I've decided to keep the original wheels and go for originality and will get these refurbed properly, i.e, not a spray over of the face.

I also purchased a new front number plate holder, which was expensive for a bit of black textured plastic, but it really finishes the car off nicely. The original had a few marks and all the used ones for sale, weren't any better. It's been the only expense on the car so far.

Anyway, another purchase was made on Sunday. Again, a totally spur of the moment purchase, from not even considering one of these, to buying it within 2 hours of seeing the advert.

Car is mechanically excellent, having been serviced at the same Jaguar dealership every year...but...it's not as clean as I'd like it to be....

The new purchase looks great! What engine is that sporting?

Do you have any more pics of your engine bay to inspire me! I am just cleaning the underneath of mine, ready for some Dinitrol protection which last another 10 years or so. It's mucky work, but will be worth it.

Sorry for the delayed reply...the past couple of weeks have been very much focused on the new car, I think I will start a thread on that shortly...really, really liking it and have no regrets whatsoever.

while not entirely complete...here is a pic of the engine bay so far...there are a few areas that could do with improving but it is looking rather nice.

That looks really nice Matt.

Thought you might be interested in this - another low mileage example that is up for sale at the moment. It looks a very good example but could do with some of your TLC! https://themarket.co.uk/listings/toyota/mr2-gt-i16...
