At 100 plus the S65 is heavenly as you say for sure, and I much prefer it to the S55 I have now at those speeds as well(the S65 feels like it pulls harder at higher revs to me).

You get some kind of extra timing advance from 4k rpm it feels, and then again at 6k. Except from 6-8000 rpm it's really giving everything and feels superb. Update time!
I still have the car. No interest from Ebay and I know it would be sorely missed if I did get rid. It's one of those cars that you think about selling, then go out and drive it properly and decide it's going nowhere. I've been using it as a daily drive for a little while and I always get a kick out of just using it, even in a mundane setting like going to work. I'm tempted to get something that is cheaper overall to use on a daily basis though. I'd need to make space in the garage so I can store it better when it's not being used. I'm not terribly precious about it but I think I can do better than leaving it on the road near my house... To that end, I'll probably sell the Mk2 Jag I've had sitting in the garage all year because I've only spent a few hours doing anything on it in all that time. Here's a pic of the offending Jag, before we get started on the BMW:
Anyway. Where were we? Fixing bits and pieces as usual. Since July all I've really done is drive it. The Nurburgring was fun as always, and I was impressed on the Autobahn when accelerating on a pretty good incline at over 160 on the clocks and the engine was still pulling hard. It makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
I must be getting attached to it. I even paid for a picture of me driving it on the track:
I've had a slightly nagging coolant leak since the clutch was changed. My friend Neil who owns the garage and changed the clutch for me managed to tweak a pipe while doing the work. No big deal, these things happen. It only required a top up every now and then, and survived the Autobahn/Nurburgring combo with no coolant added. I got around to investigating it only recently, and found the auxiliary electric pump that keeps the cabin warm when you press the 'REST' button must have had a hairline crack in the plastic inlet or outlet pipe. I replaced it with an identical second hand one with the same part number so I think I've solved that one. I also had an annoying auxiliary belt squeak occasionally on a cold start. I had a look around the belts and pulleys and found a dead idler pulley which was replaced for under £20:
Seems to have done the trick. These cars run two aux belts, one for power steering and A/C, the other for the water pump and alternator. While changing the worn out idler pulley I found the tensioner on the water pump/alternator side to not be doing a good job of tensioning any more. If I set the belt tension by pushing the tensioner manually it sort of does the trick, but I'll get one on order.
Next thing to happen was this:
Yay for 160k miles!
Last but not least, I met up with Mr E90_M3Ross and we had a go in each others cars. I've never driven a DCT before so that was interesting to try. They make total sense as a daily driver as they're just so easy but I think I prefer my manual as it's definitely more of an 'event' to drive.
I'm lining up some new wheels soon. Watch this space!
