Yep, they like it!

So, for anyone who has read all of this so far, you’ll be aware that I have had periodic sunroof creaking issues which are very weather-dependent. Direct sunlight makes it worse. Rain / moisture reduces / stops it.

Yesterday, Kia technical agreed to the sunroof seals being replaced. I will update further once done...... fingers crossed and here’s hoping no other dealer damage results!

These types of roof often creak and bang irrespective of make , its a common fault/feature of them to be honest any fix usually involves greasing to reduce the noise which will simply come back over time

Its just a case of living with it really

Liner, I think you are probably right. Grease does help. Then it comes back.

But, Kia have offered to help and it’s covered. So we’ll see if a new seal improves matters.

The full pano I had on my previous Octavia vRS never made a peep, so I guess that’s why I’m asking Kia to sort it if they can.

And the car will be with me for a while because I am enjoying it so much, so I’ve decided to try to get it sorted.

Seems to be a number of Stinger sunroof issues on YouTube. Have you tried this fix? Or is it totally different?

I have a similar issue with my E500 coupe a regreasing every 6 months seems to be the only answer, it's been realigned twice & replaced once but the problem persists, my friend has an E350 with the same roof & has had no issues, which is annoying.

Mercedes did blame my stereo setup so I pulled the sub box out two months later after the new roof was fitted the squeaks were back!!! So now we're at the point where it gets greased every 6 months at no charge.

Thanks, but my creak is at the back of the roof. There are a few owner fixes out there. That’s the next step I guess if Kia don’t fix it.

Thanks ZX, interesting. At least MB are trying to help you out. I play a lot of bassy music, but can’t see that being the cause somehow. It does help cover up the creaks though!

Kia have been good to be fair. They lube the roof every service. They also lube the door seals as they can creak with body flex over steep driveways or similar. Once lubed they are silent.

If the replacement of the roof seals doesn’t eliminate the problem, regular grease will have to do.

Hi all

I am considering a Stinger GTS to replace Golf R.

Anyone driven both to give a good comparison?

I like the interior or the GTS and assume more comfy than Golf (which will please family for longer trips!)

I notice in this thread comments about the screen/infotainment and changes in 2018. What are the differences and how do I tell which is the newer screen? Seen an 18 plate with screen as below, is that newer or older?

Also, what are the tyre sizes for the GTS on std 19s?

Thanks in advance!

That's the pre facelift screen. If you notice it has a slight indentation around the edge of the screen. The newer ones don't have that and sit flush. I test drove both a 2018 and a 2019 model and didn't notice that until I read this thread and it was pointed out. Now it's pretty obvious.

I see, it was hard to tell from pics, they look the same.

Is the software/screen res the same though?

Also, other than screen, any other facelift changes?

I assume older ones also support Apple CarPlay too?

Stinger Tyres:

Front - 225 / 40 R19 Y XL
36 PSI, 39 when fully loaded

Rear - 255 / 35 R19 Y XL
36 PSI, 40 when fully loaded

There were quite a few changes from March 2019 in addition to the improved screen. Manual gearbox settings and exhaust the main ones. See earlier in the thread as they are all discussed.

Unless your Golf R has DCC, you will probably find the Stinger more comfortable as a daily - Eco and Comfort settings make the ride much softer (electronically controlled). The long wheel base helps.

Sport and Sport+ are quite firm.

Thanks, saw a 18 plate on that ticked most the boxes (grey, red leather etc.)

However, I think I would prefer 19 models as lack of proper manual gearbox change is something that would annoy me, as would the more dated screen.

May wait a while as they don’t appear often!

Gold does not have DCC.

Had a Lexus GS before (mega comfy but not “fun”) so looking for something that combines some of the luxury/comfort of the GS and the performance of the R. I also like something a little different (despite the golf biggrin)

Sounds like the Stinger is the answer for you. Two cars in one and definitely something different.

The exhaust sounds much better from Mar 19 on as well. Quiet on a run, but a lovely V6 rasp under power in sport.
I’m always popping the roof and opening windows when in villages or if passing stone walls etc.

Thanks for replies.

I think I’ll wait a little while for the 19 models to drop down in price a bit (there was an 18plate in budget), looking at up to £25k. Happy to wait a year though...

To confirm, if a 68 plate has updated screen, it would also have all the other updates you mention? Or is it 19 plates on only?

I think it should have the other updates, but there was talk of some of them coming in without others. A test drive should tell you. They also have ambient lighting and just GT badging on the back instead of GTS.
