The £500 Daewoo Nubira
Discussion
Looks alright. I’m sure you’ll get £500 worth of motoring out of it.
We actually owned a Nubira estate from 2002-03, it cost buttons to run as it had been converted to LPG. The head gasket went in the end and it was sold on and ended up in Syria.
It took us on winter tyres up to a high French ski resort in a blizzard and was perfectly sure-footed on snow.

Why didn't you just spend a bit more of the boxster money on something nicer even for a stop gap that's taking saving money a bit far. Any 20yr old car will not loose money if bought well and kept for only 6mths. (could have prob got an mx5 in autumn cheap then sold in spring for example.

Whilst I could recoup my costs on a £1500 MX5 (or similar), at that end of the market it's unlikely that it would go to the first person who came to see it. I imagine I'd have a fair amount of people messing me around which is exactly what I don't want - not definite but quite possibly. When I have my budget ready for my next car, I want to jump straight into it and not have to faff around trying to sell another car and it's also a pain to try and have the old car collected around the same date I pick up the new car - I can't be faffing around with that. With the Daewoo, WBAC will give me around £300 for it, say £250 when they knock it down, easy as hell. A £250 loss from potentially 6 months of trouble-free motoring and completely hassle-free sale is what I am looking for with this shed.
Also, having owned a 5 (and loved it) I've got to say, for the commut I do, the Daewoo is a nicer place to sit. 30 mile round trip, all straight line 50mph. Just need something comfy and reliable and during winter can't say I'd have the roof down much driving home from work at midnight in the pouring rain!
Final update for this post.
The Daewoo was a great shed but after 2 months I replaced it with my next proper car...
Despite the big upgrade, this little Nubira will be missed.
I present to you my new (to me) 2018 Mustang GT Shadow Edition, finished in Grabber Blue w/ Black Stripes and black interior.
5.0 V8
416bhp
391 ib-ft

Though you have probably never driven a Nubira and never will, I’m sure by this point you’ve got a good idea of what it’s like to be in. I was lucky enough to go on numerous US trips when I was younger and after spending a lot of time in NYC cabs, I fell in love with the Ford Crown Victoria. It’s low power lazy V8 suited the car perfectly and while not fast by any means it was grunty enough for what you need and it would effortlessly take you to your destination, being sure to wallow at every turn of the steering wheel. I’ll never own a Crown Vic, as much as I’d like one I can’t see it being a car I ever end up buying. As silly as this might sound to you, the Nubira is my Crown Victoria and that’s why I have such an affection for it. It’s reasonably powerful and torquey, it’s a relaxing drive and if you show it a corner it rolls around like crazy. It’s fit for purpose – it gets you from place to place in comfort and gives you no grief or drama. At least not in the dry. If you squint your eyes, you could even say it looks a little bit like a Crown Victoria – at least from behind. A little. In my eyes, at least.
Holy thread resurrection, Batman! I thought I'd add in that 2 years on, I've actually gone and bought a Crown Victoria to use as a daily driver, sitting alongside the Mustang that I bought to replace the mighty Daewoo Nubira.
Whilst I knew the Mustang would be coming when I originally bought the Nubira, I must admit I never expect that 2 years later I'd have bought my first house and still be able to afford 5 cars, 2 of which being V8s!
I'm very fortunate and have been very lucky during a period where many have lost their jobs and possibly their lives.
A Crown Victoria thread will be up in a few days, I've already begun writing it.
I tend to go on and on way too much (just look at how overly detailed this post is!) so will have to probably cut out 50% of what I've already put about the Crown Vic'!
