Fords have really handled well since RPJ did the control blade rear setup on the original Focus. I can throw the Mondeo around like it's a small car!
They do seem to be very capable in standard trim, Mrs Bobbers old Focus came with the sport pack so handled well anyway, certainly far better than Rio did before the upgrades, it's always amazed me how well Mondeo's handle for what is a relatively big car!!!
And the Focus and Mondeo are essentially the same car underneath, both use the trailing arm rear setup etc. I remember when I was buying it, seeing the reviews and looking forward to it. It's certainly a lot more nimble than a Passat for sure.

I has been a very busy boy, Rio has been rinsed, snow foamed, rinsed, wheels washed, washed, rinsed, clay bared, polished and waxed, cleaned inside, all windows cleaned inside and outside, and hoovered, some pics.

I only have a basic rotary polisher and I use Turtlewax products, but it seems to have turned out OK!!

I noticed a while ago that one of the chrome covers from one of my wheel nuts is missing,

So I've ordered a full set of zinc plated stainless steel ones, I'll post a pic tomorrow, after I've repeated what I've done today on Peanut tomorrow, I have no idea how people enjoy detailing their cars, I will admit that I'm a little bit broken after all that today!!!

I'm done, both physically and metaphorically, Peanut is finished,I even cleaned and nourished the leather interior, I decided not to clay bar her as the paint's pretty good, I did polish and wax her though and I'm pleased with the results.

So yesterday I failed to do one of the things I said I was going to do, namely replacing my old tarnished nuts with nice new shiny stainless ones, I mean, come on now, who doesn't like shiny new nuts?!?! The main reason for replacing them was one of the chrome caps had come off and gone missing from my OE Ford ones, so I ordered a set of zinc coated stainless ones off Amazon, you know they're going to be good when they tell you they're "Excellence in wheel accessories" on the box!! yes

They are well packaged and feel good quality, and they're shiny!!!

I bought a Sealey impact wrench last year and I've only charged it once and it's still going strong, I also retorqued the nuts after installing.

And of course who doesn't like nice shiny new nuts!! cloud9

I am surprised you didn’t go for titanium nuts for the weight saving.

Hello lovely people out there in the tinternet, I've been looking at retrofitting cruise control to my 58 plate Focus, it has the requisite GEM ending in a "D" code, it has the brown and white wire in the blue connector as required, and the blue and black switches on the brake and the switch on the clutch, i can acquire a four spoke steering wheel with the cruise controls on for around £80 and fit that myself, where it all comes stumbling to a halt is the reprogramming of the modules on the car as it requires IDS or equivalent software and the ability to use it!!! Is there anyone out there near the south coast who'd be able to reprogram the modules for a price?

Some of you eagle eyed observational specialists out there may have noticed that when I swapped my old wheel nuts over for the stainless ones, my locking wheel nuts were letting the side down somewhat, so I swapped them with some of my old original nuts, had them media blasted, painted them and swapped them back onto the car.
Before blasting,

After blasting.

Expertly erected, professional spray booth. smile

Sprayed.

Refitted, much better!! smile

You can enable this yourself using a laptop, modified ELM 327 cable (to connect to both HS/MS canbus networks via OBD) and free software called ELMConfig. Assuming you have a compatible laptop the cost of the cable is £15-£20 and the functionality with Mk2 focus in particular is well worth it.

You should create backups of the original config before making any changes should you run into issues.

I have used it to enable a number of things on my Mk2 Focus ST.
This is a good article to start you off - you can disregard the part on modifying the cable as they are widely available already modified on ebay https://www.jamessimpson.co.uk/elmconfig-enable-fo...

I believe you can do similar on the MK4 Mondeo, I need to get around to doing it.

Sit yerselves down with a cuppa as this may be a longish pic heavy post.....
When I bought Rio the Rioja Blue Racing slug it came with a Witter towbar with electrics, I've been trying to tidy various areas as I go and as I'm isolating until a hospital appointment on Friday I decided to drop the towbar off the car and tidy it up.........well that was the theory anyway, upon getting the car up on my ramps and getting it off it became apparent that it was rougher than some parts of Gosport!!!! yikes

Getting it off was a case of undoing two bolts either end of the bar itself which attach it to the brackets bolted to the chassis rails, dropping it down and removing the electrics from the plate beside the ball, then undoing the two bolts on each bracket and removing them too.
Got it all into the garden onto a workmate, a Black and Decker workmate, not a mate from work on his hands and knees!!! rolleyes
And it revealed this......

Even after attacking it with a flap wheel, a wire knot wheel, a hammer and chisel, a hand grenade, a flamethrower and eventually the power of suggestion, (some of that may not be true) I came to the conclusion that not even Maybeline and Max Factor combined have enough products to make it look good!!! eek
So I decided to pretty up the brackets and reattach them to the chassis rails as the bolts that hold them on are mounted to a bar inside the chassis rails and unless I removed the rear bumper and crash bar I wouldn't be able to get them out, so ground back, liberally coated in stone chip and back on the car they went!!!

That left the electrics to tidy up, I put them back together, bagged it up to try and protect them, wrapped the cable around one of the bumper mounts and cable tied it all up behind the bumper.

And Rio with a clean, svelte bum!! smile

Being both stupid, bored, obsessive and prone to over doing things, I then decided to go wild with the Back to Black on all the black plastics, yay!!! woohoo

And that brings us up to date, we're off to Scotland for 10 days in September, when we get back Rio will be going in with a friend who has his own bodyshop for a little rust remedial, the tailgate debadged, and the boit spoiler smoothing off and tailgate and spoiler resprayed, and some scrapes on the front bumper repaired and the whole bumper resprayed!!!

A small update, Rio the Rioja Blue Racing slug was coming up for his MOT, booked in this morning and he went straight through zero advisories for the second year on the trot, really pleased with that, we used a local garage for the first time and am really impressed with them, so much so that we've booked Peanut in for a major service which they quoted £240-£260 and includes all filters, oil change, spark plugs and a full inspection, so that's happening on the 20th September. Rio is booked in the following Monday for an oil and filter change using my preferred Castrol Magnatec, really hoping we've found a decent local garage this time as we've been messed around in the past.

My estate has an electric retracting towbar fitted as a factree option. I have never used it, but at least I don’t have to see it!

I think it was just the thought that if I needed it I had it, but since removing it I think the rear looks much cleaner, and as I don't have, nor have need of, a trailer then it's staying off the car!!
I do like the sound of an electric retractable one though, tres posh!!! yes
