Are you sitting comfortably boys and girls?
Then I'll begin........
We set off for Malvern and the MorganSunday Saturday Service bright and early on Friday morning after deciding that it would be nice to take just A and B roads there, normally a journey of about 2 1/4 hrs took us over 3 because of that choice but hey, we weren't in a rush!!!
So we arrived in Malvern at our hotel, parked in the carpark and were pleasantly surprised by the hotel itself!!!
Rio drove faultlessly getting there, more on that shortly!!
Saturday saw us up bright and early again so I could dump Mrs Bobbers somewhere to keep her out of trouble drop Mrs Bobbers off for some retail therapy and get Rio cleaned ready to be parked amongst much more expensive toys.
I arrived in a shiny clean Rio at Morgan cars to be told "just follow the road between the buildings and park in the field would you? We're only parking special cars out the front!!!"
And so Rio was parked out the back......
I will admit I had a great time at Morgan with plenty of interesting cars to see, I caught up with a couple of people and had a fantastic factory tour!!
Leaving the factory I decided to have a bit of fun on the way toreclaim my wife from wherever I'd mislaid her pick up Mrs Bobbers from her shopping, sadly this wasn't to be as Rio seemed down on power and didn't appear to be making much boost!!!
Things got worse when after picking Mrs Bobbers, up I pulled out of a junction and accelerated only to have Rio cut out completely, no lights on the dash nothing!!!
He restarted easily but still seemed down on power, so we took the decision to leave early the next morning and take a slow drive home!!!
So we were up, breakfasted and away home at 0900 Sunday.........and he seemed to be back to his normal self!!!
I have absolutely no idea what was wrong as I plugged my OBD reader in and there were no codes found, so he's booked in at the garage who mapped him next Friday for a diagnostic dyno run, so fingers crossed it will either show a problem or prove he's just getting temperamental in his old age!!!

A nupdate on Rio, took him to the chap who mapped him on Friday, he was strapped to the dyno and despite 32degree temp in the dyno room he still managed a credible 138.9bhp and 347Nm!!!
James the mapper chap suggested that it may be an ABS issue as apparently the module breaking down exhibits the same symptoms, so just keep an eye on it for now!!
While there we also discussed the brake pedal going soft after some spirited driving, so in September Rio will be going back for HEL braided hoses a complete brake fluid flush and replaced with Motul RBF 660, which will hopefully improve things!!

Yet another nupdate, I know, they're like buses at the moment!!!
Rio is due a service and MOT next month so in preparation I have ordered in the bits wot is needed, I've also taken the decision to replace the drivers side engine mount as they're prone to failing, and at 85k and 14 years old I suspect it's past its prime, managed to pick up a febi one for £99.72, a truly odd amount, but I'll take it as the last time I looked they were around £125!!!
I have a spare 1L bottle of Castrol Magnatec in the shed to go with the 4L I purchased, so that'll be plenty for the oil change!!!
Just need to sort a day out to carry out the service now!!

A good saving over it serviced at a garage.
Oh hell yes, i normally service our cars, not just to save money but also I quite like doing it myself, there's a feeling of satisfaction in knowing I've not only used the products I want but that the parts I've asked to be changed actually have been!! The only real exception is Peanut, we're continuing the service history until the extended warranty runs out!!
ETA, I also lithium greased all the Locks, door check straps and hinges!!

So that's that done then, oil and filter changed, for those of you who haven't had the joyous experience of changing the oil filter on a 1.8TDCi Focus before, it's a ball ache!!!
Ford in their infinite wisdom decided the best place for it was just above the driverssidedrive shaft!!!!
Can you see it?
How about now?
So removal of it results in oil all over the drive shaft, which invariably dribbles down yer arm, and as happened once before, dribbles into your armpit!!!!
Anywho, git the filter changed for a Bosch one, new sump plug and rubber washer, and filled up with Castrol Magnatec A5!!!
I then changed the fuel filter which involves removing the filter housing, emptying the fuel out, cleaning it out, new filter and seal, filling the filter and housing with fresh fuel, continuously tapping it to get the air out while filling it, reassembling with the new seal and reinstalling in car!!
I then turned my attention to the drivers side engine mount, as I said before these are prone to failing and at 84,500 miles and 14 years old I knew it would need looking at.
They're a bit of a faff to get to, you have to remove a section of the intercooler piping and move the header tank out of the way!!
Once they're moved it reveals the mount, at this point I slid a trolley jack with a bit of wood on under the sump and jacked up the engine until I could see that the weight was being taken by the jack.
Two 19mm nuts and 15mm bokts secure it, I could see as soon as I removed it it was on its way out!!
The damper on the old one was swollen and sof, the new one firmer and indented.
I had to jack the engine up a bit to actually get it off, but once off, the area cleaned and the new one bolted in, it only takes about 15 minutes!!
I then decided to tackle the pollen filter..........
What an absolutely, hateful, st arse bd of a job it is!!!
Number 1, access is in the passenger footwell....
Number 2, you have to unplug the BCM and fuse board.....
Number 3, you have to remove the bracket for the BCM and fuse board....
THEN, you can actually get to the sodding end plate for the pollen filter!!!!
No pictures as I was too busy swearing, hitting my head/elbows/hands, contorting myself into un-namable positions that I don't think even the kama sutra knows about and sweating like a pig in a bacon shop!!!
But, it's done, so I can forget about it for a few years now!!!
In a couple of weeks time he's having his MOT, wish me luck!!!!

Forgot to update about the MOT, Rio's was due on the 5th of September and I could only get him in on the 6th, so in he went and I crossed everything.................
Got a phone call just before lunch saying he'd passed and the only advisory was an oil leak!!!
So armed with a nice fresh MOT we set off on holiday on Saturday, all the way from Sarfamptun up to Harrogate, where we're staying in I fantastic hotel called the Old Swan!!
Obligatory pic of Rio in front of hotel!!
OBC is saying we're averaging 53mpg which is good, so far we've been out to a few places including a trip to The World of Beatrix Potter and her house Hilltop which was a 168 mile round trip!!
On Friday we leave Harrogate to drive to Cricket St Thomas down in Somerset, a 279 mile trip!!!

Yeah everything is fine thanks Bobbers there has just been nothing to report.
I missed a milage moment during the trip when Rio went over 87,000!!
So we're now home from our holiday, 1143 miles in total, he never put a foot wrong, he has however got two sizeable chips in his windscreen!!!
And for some reason the washer bottle refuses to hold more than a couple of litres, so that's obviously got a spilt in it too!!!
Obligatory pic of Rio outside Cricket St Thomas where we spent three nights, a lovely place especially as we were in the Manor House itself!!!
