All we need now, set of big bumpers, twin upswept Scorpion, set of Borbet A's, cheap lowering springs and possibly a single wiper conversion, cut some 6x9's in the parcel shelf.

That looks awesome, agree with everyone else and a great story and so nice to see one that hasn't been messed about with, looks like it is in good hands as well

A great story and a great replacement for your previous model.

It looks like you've replaced the plates with the correct font, always looks better!
Yes, well spotted!

I had three Mark 2 GTIs (standard 8v and 16v, modded 2.0 8v) and I still think that in the one-car-to-do-it-all stakes they take some beating even today.

Lovely find!

Park that next to whatever you want and I'll look at the Golf first.

A really nice story, too.

When I was about to leave she asked if I could wait until she replaced her hearing aid battery as she wanted to hear the exhaust note as I drove off!
Love that bit...

That's gorgeous. For me the perfect Golf.

Ann sounds great and clearly looked after it very well.

So nice to see an original and unmolested one. Absolutely love it.
Had a mk2 back in the day and they were so well made.

Always curious to know how people went about finding cars like this, given the history it must've been seriously desirable for people wanting a MK2 gti

Stunning
Simply....stunning
And made all the better for not having alloys
I had an XR3i and an RS Turbo back then, but I always felt a bit ‘downmarket’ very time I pulled up next to a GTi
I succumbed and bought an 8v and then a 16v.
And the scales fell from my eyes!
If the owner were to sell this today, I’d buy it, almost irrespective of price; to me it appeals more than a new GTi.
To the owner; well done, you are a lucky chap, and I hope it provides you with many years of happiness every time you open the garage door!

My Dad saw this car in the very showroom when he picked up a Golf a few years ago and sent me the pic. Said it was a one former keeper car with very low miles and it looks stunning.

Great buy and one sure to increase in value over the years with just modest use. Enjoy!!!!

I have a mk1 and found a mk2 8V in White which has lived in Spain so I expect it to be in similar condition to yours!

It's great to hear stories like this, thanks for sharing. The increasing trend now seems to be that people have no interest in a vehicle one their 3 year PCP is up. To hear of anybody owning a car for a significant chunk of their lifetime is incredibly refreshing.

The GTI looks like a bit of a gem. Maybe good for another few decades?!

I live not to far from Arthur Prince in Loughborough. I looked around this a few times in the showroom and also saw it in use by the previous owner. Did a double take seeing an OAP driving a mk2 gti! Very tidy.

I’ve also got a C reg gti, all be it Mars Red, great car. Hope you enjoy the car, it’s got a great back story.

Always had a thing for these since winning one in a newspaper competition in 88, they look best on the original steels and ride height.

That is a fantastic story. thumbup

Back in the 90s I had an early MK2 16V for a while as a stop-gap and loved it. Had it been a better example I would probably have kept it longer. rolleyes

Lovely car. I had an atlas grey 16v with the small bumpers, amongst a few other Mk2s!
What great cars they are.

Fantastic lady, fantastic story. and ... fantastic car.

It's still so fresh. The windows are so "deep" you can actually see out of them ! biggrin

I drove the original back in the day, it tolerated lift off moments far better than the Astra GTE. Now that was a scary car on it's old skool ditchfinders.

The Golf looked after you a bit more, it should be epic on modern tyres, what are you running ?

Mk2 and mk5 are my favourite golfs.
