Cool, I would have been in that race looking at the other names.

Think it was this one - I started from the back!

How much of a clear up was there in your seat after the spin out in front of you at 5:47? Great video

Thanks Ben! As for the spin, I sort of knew it was going to happen. You obviously get a feel for your own car's limits, and I knew how my car would react threshold braking off line like that, so I sat there waiting for 'something' to go wrong - all happens in milliseconds of course!

It might be a good idea to get one of these, Lotus are gearbox destroyers due to the traction, relative to a front wheel drive car.

Darkside 02M & 02Q Gearbox 4th Gear Input Shaft Support

One of the biggest weaknesses of the 02M & 02Q Gearboxes is 4th Gear stripping teeth. This can become a major problem on vehicles with high torque figures. The issue is that the vibration and twisting force that goes through the input shaft and the shaft opposite, this pushes the gears apart. The result is that the 4th gear no longer engages correctly, this can result in the 4th gear breaking off or stripping the teeth.

The support works by a brass support pushing against the input shaft to stop the parting of the two 4th gears. The preload of the support is adjustable and should be checked periodically.

Please see the listings for 02M / 02Q Gearbox Reinforcement Plate and 02M / 02Q Steel Selector / Shifter Forks

It is a never ending story, not like one LOL

Most home build projects don't get finished, you're probably best to ignore me and crack on. Then worry about other things as and when, or if they happen.

That was quite early days, before it became Lotus Cup UK. Believe it was Sean Bicknell. The cars got quite a bit quicker, but that was more down to the chassis and move to sequential gearboxes than engines. Ultimately, whatever the engine, the supercharged and turbo cars just wouldn't last, and people spent a lot of money.

I used to race against Chris and his dad with my old man too; it's a genuine Autobytel Motorsport Elise.

When we first got it we switched to the central seat (it was an option to be LHD, RHD or centre) and fitted the Quaife sequential (awful) before finally giving up and going to Hewland and then a Duratec engine. Interestingly we found the short scoop got us better power from memory. I believe Gav Kershaw / Lanzante tried the longer roof scoop during British GT (note we alternated between the two in the pics).

When we raced it, a lot of people copied our aero and it's fun to see it filter down to people with road/track cars! I've only done a regular trackday once with one of these modified Elises (from memory it was Audi powered) and it must have been a good 10 seconds a lap slower (found a bit of footage here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXs3ifzdUWU). Would love to pitch ours against some of these other creations.

Anyway, cnjoyed reading your build cool I have a miami blue GT4 and it is a stunning colour!
Hi Rob great to here from you again mate. I hope you and your dad are keeping well. Are you still racing? I think I’ve seen you in a Mustang recently

Well Stratus boy Dave, told me it took him 18 months to get the motorsport body to fit.

yeah my panels were a mix of different aftermarket and home made panels, which required a lot of modifying to fit - which I quite like doing fortunately.
It's worth contacting 'junks' on South East Lotus Owners Club SELOC - he may be able to help or do a search for Dominic Hughes on Facebook page: Lotus Cars Community - Elise S1

if he went for a smaller turbo then he wouldnt be able to make 500bhp or wouldnt want to rev to 8000rpm+
Its 400bhp now and pretty much pointless for road use, with the power delivery. It sounds like he's chasing numbers instead of driveability and hence speed but I suppose, its just a show car.
I would have zero interest in that driving his car now and even less if he gets it to 500bhp. I had a similar issue with mine, when I first got it. I span it in a straight line, leisurely accelerating in 6th gear. My issue, then was the OEM ecu, you couldn't map out the huge torque spike and if it came it on a surface with less than perfect grip, then the back end would go. Now it just puts the power down and goes, none of that back end snaking.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me... I had, what I believed to be the second or third TFSI Elise from Autograph Cars in Burnley. Had a huge crash, wrote the car off as it spiked coming onto a motorway in the wet and threw me into the central reservation at around 40mph. Head went through the side window and was rather sliced up in the process.

Please be safe, they are utterly insane the TFSI conversions, one was basically a remapped S3, but even at 320ish bhp, it had the midrange grunt to make 600 bikes seem slow!

Gutted it's gone ??

just bringing this back for an update, car has been on hold as we move house, and we haven't moved into new house yet (Anglesey), staying with Dad near Frodsham.
Car has had a full bespoke loom fitted and is finished from my part. being trailered off today to get start-up, final fettling and rolling road set up. Hopefully coming back to me all sorted.

had to take it off my trailer, couldn't get it out of dad's drive! and onto another....
