Hey Alistair, I just came across this thread. As you commented on mine, we should meet up and compare petrol guzzling wagons!
My long term average seems to be just under 20mpg, though I use it a lot for urban driving, interspersed with long drives, as you would have read.
Sounds like a good plan! As you said - some middle aged hoonery on the A3 no doubt including a stop for some V Power. My long term average seems to be just under 20mpg, though I use it a lot for urban driving, interspersed with long drives, as you would have read.
My mother in law has a 2007 SL500, I assume it's the same engine to yours? If so I have always enjoyed driving it!
Petrol costs aside, which I don't mind as my mileage is pretty low, I am keeping my fingers crossed that it does not throw up too many big bills. The major bill on my old 530i was when the high pressure fuel pump went - not cheap - but otherwise it was niggly things, lots of bits in the tailgate, new LCI sport shifter (twice). The 550i has many more gadgets, therefore much more to go wrong. But it has a big V8 so I don't care.

It may be the same M113 engine, though perhaps her SL is the higher powered and larger capacity 5.5L.
To date over 40,000 miles, my car has cost me £0.42 per mile to keep on the road (and in mechanically tip top condition) and fuel, assuming 20mpg and £1.30 per litre, £0.29 per mile. So... not cheap, but also, a sorted vehicle!
Front brakes
I put on new front discs and pads yesterday evening, just in time before the miserable weather over the next few days. One stubborn bolt apart, it went without problem.
Zimmermann discs - cost £190
Brembo pads - cost £57 (50% off from ECP)
Old discs lipped and very rusty
Forgot to take a picture of the new disc in place before putting the wheels back on!

So was this the same car as Texas John bought. I didn't realise. I have never seen a manual sport for sale except for one which was owned previously by a PH'er I think. We did have an 08 se spec car with manual I think but that's it. There was recently an SSG or SMG car on the v8 touring thread too. But for the last year or so the thread has been quiet. So I'm quite pleased we have a new owner here. Well done that man.
I've only just stumbled across this but I've owned the SSG E61 550i for about a year now. More than happy to talk about it, answer questions etc.stickleback123 said:

These have aged so well, that looks superb.I'm sure that it is a superb drive, though surely the motorway is where it would really be in its element?
