First Dabble into Shedding | MK1 Skoda Octavia TDI
Discussion
Nothing new to report really.
Car has served me well over the last few months, the car seems to be performing relatively well - apart from the coolant leak is still present. I may shove some radweld in it soon I think. Our Kuga went into the garage for some warranty work, so Skoda got a good run to Scarborough for the day much to my wifes disgust as she isn't a lover of the car lol.
I am in process of maybe swapping jobs, the Octavia was bought to stop depreciating our family car as much and as I get 45p per mile from work, the Skoda had paid for itself 3x over.
If I do change jobs, I'll be 100% remote based from home and no need for the Skoda as such, but I think I may just keep it anyway?

We were going to go to Scarborough last Thursday, but weather was pants, don't think our kids would of enjoyed it.Car has served me well over the last few months, the car seems to be performing relatively well - apart from the coolant leak is still present. Selling, are there any jobs that would be worth keeping it for the cost of tax/mot/insurance that the Kuga can't do ?
You could always advertise it at a generous price and see if anyone bites.

It was roasting when we went, I think it was weekend when we had really warm weather back end of July. Selling, are there any jobs that would be worth keeping it for the cost of tax/mot/insurance that the Kuga can't do ?

Apart from a tip car and a car to potter around in - probably not. Costs me roughly £48 per month in tax and insurance.

Depends on how much it will cost you to keep lying around? I have a feeling if you sold it, soon after you'd either fancy something else, or you'd find a use for it that you wouldn't want to be doing with the Kuga and regret it.
Obviously cars don't like being sat for long periods of time, but as a cheap runaround, must be worth having around? Unless it costs a lot to keep on the road, of course.

This is thing I guess - it has paid for itself a few times over in terms of mileage I have got back from work, that includes any repairs and all the maintenance carried out so far. Costs me circa £48 per month in tax and insurance, might be able to reduce that slightly if I reduced the business cover to social only. Suppose short term we are about to have another baby, so two cars not needed but when my wife does get back to work - we may do then.Depends on how much it will cost you to keep lying around? Haha yes, good engine too.
What is everyone's feeling on Radweld? Apparently it was in the car before I bought it, after the belt/water pump change - the leak started and although sometimes it goes down quicker than others, it remains. I am tempted to shove another dose of radweld in - as I cannot be bothered to trace the leak and doesn't seem viable spending all that money on it really.

Just a quick update for anyone who is remotely interested.
With remote working and me changing jobs, the mileage hasn't gone up massively in the last few months but the car has been declared SORN today. Current mileage stands at 173,290 miles.
I have bought another Fiesta ST, but this one is MINT compared to the last dog I bought and I'm quite fond of this one (new thread on the way).
I did have the car on eBay and had a LOT of interest, but decided I couldn't part with the Octavia just yet. It owes me nothing at all, I worked out all the mileage and costs - I'm about £375 UP on the car, so it can sit on my drive for the winter whilst I decide what is next for it.

Always nice to see an older car get through, it becomes less and less of a formality as time goes on!
Exactly yes, quite happy with that though.Gallons Per Mile said:
All easy bits to sort out, happy days! That exhaust leak will probably be around the cat. Apparently it's a common place for them to go. My friend had that bit of the exhaust on his Golf repaired for about £50.
Yes, I think it is - £50 seems reasonable actually.NGRhodes said:
Seems odd seeing MOT not due until 2022 !
Is it currently being used or off the road ?
It does I know, I said same to the Mrs earlier. Is it currently being used or off the road ?
It's still getting used, along with the Fiesta - but defo need to sort cars out as running 3 isn't cheap.
All that was needed was a spring thankfully.
However, I'm about to throw the towel in - gone for a little drive tonight as not used car really in last few weeks to realise I now have a boost leak somewhere and power steering fluid leak/whine.

The end is here for the old trusty shed it seems .
For a few weeks now, I have had a boost issue (it seems to be a split in a pipe somewhere) but at the same time, I had a terrible whine / high pitch sound when warm. It's been over at a family members garage earlier, diagnosed as the fuel injector pump seems to be on it's way out. It could go on for months but I'm drawing a line now and selling up.
It's a big job to replace (not my expertise) and will need to remove timing belt too, so it's not worth time/effort. It seems such a shame as it's served me so well and managed 8,000 miles, pretty much trouble free!
