For the cost of a couple of tins of mr muscle I’d be more inclined to give that a go.

Aside from the vanes being gummed up the blower itself might well be in decent shape.
Thanks, if I’m honest - I get nervous doing anything like that as I’m not that techy lol

I get a car allowance from work, I have worked out that if I took the Golf/bottom of the range A class/1 series it would cost me £450 a month in lost car allowance and BIK company car tax. Over the last three years that would be.

Company car = 36 * 450 = £16,200

Shed = £1200 (Purchase price) + £600 (3 years insurance) + £90 (3 years road tax) + £500 (Mot, tyres, servicing, wipers etc) = £2390

I also think I could sell my shed for £800 easily, so that makes it £1590 over three years copared to £16,200 for the company car option.

£14,610 extra that is now in my bank account. Plus right now I am doing less than 200 miles a month so it is nice having a car sittting there that is not depreciating or costing me any money a month.
Exactly this buddy! It makes perfect sense. I get 45p per mile for every journey I do, on average I get around £5,5 - £6k per annum back (or was until C19 took hold). I reckon I could have even ran the Fiesta ST and still made plenty of money back too. My Mrs wants to keep the ST lol

It was like my xmas morning today when the post arrived.

Few goodies for the car - the flat bladed wipers are just so much better, plus look neater to look at from the window too.

Question is - do we include mats in your 'running costs'? Just need the clips for the mats before i fit them.

Autoglass are coming to repair the chip on the windscreen next week too.

End of month update..

Thought I'd just update this once a month from now on. The FIesta was moved on quite quickly, I worked out it needed £700 worth of things sorting to get it to where I wanted it as it was obviously no shed and decided I'd rather move it on, so that's what I did.

Back to Octavia, I thought I'd treat it to a few things and onto eBay I went replacing items (as mentioned above). First thing was new mats, that were a bit thicker than the old ones as got too much stuff in carpets and wouldn't come out. I then needed new wipers, so decided to spend a bit extra on BOSCH wipers and then thought I'd replace the boot struts as they were knackered - not bad £12 for some new ones. I also replaced the number plates whilst I was at it and I must admit it looks much fresher now. I also stuck on some new Elegance badges were they'd clearly fallen off at some point....

So yes, a little than usual spending your shed but decided it was just little things to make feel a bit happier about the car.

However, the coolant issues have reappear a little - not losing massive amounts, but seems to be losing a little and think the radiator, as predicted maybe at fault so will look at that eventually - only dropping below level after 4 months it seems, so I topped it up for now. The turbo is back to it's annoying cutting out stage, plus sounds like exhaust is blowing when flooring it (before the turbo kicks off) so in a couple of weeks I am taking it over to my mechanic (he is family) and we going to see if the exhaust blow is any worse than it was on the MOT, try and free up the acuator and also the turbo cleaned up i think - see how that goes. Whilst it's in I'm going to drop the oil and change the filter too - given it was only 5k since last one, I guess it won't do any harm!

Purchase Price (£) - 450.00
Current Spend (£) - 873.85
Current Mileage - 173,650 (not going up much not due to COVID19)
Mileage Driven - 5,617

Cost Per Mile (£) - 0.20

Goodies

New wheel badges

Elegance Badges

Old struts

Plates

Nothing new to report really.

Car has served me well over the last few months, the car seems to be performing relatively well - apart from the coolant leak is still present. I may shove some radweld in it soon I think. Our Kuga went into the garage for some warranty work, so Skoda got a good run to Scarborough for the day much to my wifes disgust as she isn't a lover of the car lol.

I am in process of maybe swapping jobs, the Octavia was bought to stop depreciating our family car as much and as I get 45p per mile from work, the Skoda had paid for itself 3x over.

If I do change jobs, I'll be 100% remote based from home and no need for the Skoda as such, but I think I may just keep it anyway?

We were going to go to Scarborough last Thursday, but weather was pants, don't think our kids would of enjoyed it.

Selling, are there any jobs that would be worth keeping it for the cost of tax/mot/insurance that the Kuga can't do ?
You could always advertise it at a generous price and see if anyone bites.
It was roasting when we went, I think it was weekend when we had really warm weather back end of July.

Apart from a tip car and a car to potter around in - probably not. Costs me roughly £48 per month in tax and insurance.

Glad it is behaving!
Depends on how much it will cost you to keep lying around? I have a feeling if you sold it, soon after you'd either fancy something else, or you'd find a use for it that you wouldn't want to be doing with the Kuga and regret it.
Obviously cars don't like being sat for long periods of time, but as a cheap runaround, must be worth having around? Unless it costs a lot to keep on the road, of course.
This is thing I guess - it has paid for itself a few times over in terms of mileage I have got back from work, that includes any repairs and all the maintenance carried out so far. Costs me circa £48 per month in tax and insurance, might be able to reduce that slightly if I reduced the business cover to social only. Suppose short term we are about to have another baby, so two cars not needed but when my wife does get back to work - we may do then.

Haha yes, good engine too.

What is everyone's feeling on Radweld? Apparently it was in the car before I bought it, after the belt/water pump change - the leak started and although sometimes it goes down quicker than others, it remains. I am tempted to shove another dose of radweld in - as I cannot be bothered to trace the leak and doesn't seem viable spending all that money on it really.

Car will be going on the bay over the weekend.

Decided given I will be at home now in the new role, it's time to move it on - which is shame but seems pointless sat on the drive.

Just a quick update for anyone who is remotely interested.

With remote working and me changing jobs, the mileage hasn't gone up massively in the last few months but the car has been declared SORN today. Current mileage stands at 173,290 miles.

I have bought another Fiesta ST, but this one is MINT compared to the last dog I bought and I'm quite fond of this one (new thread on the way).

I did have the car on eBay and had a LOT of interest, but decided I couldn't part with the Octavia just yet. It owes me nothing at all, I worked out all the mileage and costs - I'm about £375 UP on the car, so it can sit on my drive for the winter whilst I decide what is next for it.

Always nice to see an older car get through, it becomes less and less of a formality as time goes on!
Exactly yes, quite happy with that though.

All easy bits to sort out, happy days! That exhaust leak will probably be around the cat. Apparently it's a common place for them to go. My friend had that bit of the exhaust on his Golf repaired for about £50.
Yes, I think it is - £50 seems reasonable actually.

Seems odd seeing MOT not due until 2022 !
Is it currently being used or off the road ?
It does I know, I said same to the Mrs earlier.

It's still getting used, along with the Fiesta - but defo need to sort cars out as running 3 isn't cheap.

First proper breakdown of the shed it seems. I went to take my daughter back to her mums earlier, came to turn and boing! I was what is trapped, popped the bonnet and saw the top mount is lower at one side. Looks like a spring has snapped.

I know the pictures are the wrong way around, apolgies.

All that was needed was a spring thankfully.

However, I'm about to throw the towel in - gone for a little drive tonight as not used car really in last few weeks to realise I now have a boost leak somewhere and power steering fluid leak/whine.

The end is here for the old trusty shed it seems frown.

For a few weeks now, I have had a boost issue (it seems to be a split in a pipe somewhere) but at the same time, I had a terrible whine / high pitch sound when warm. It's been over at a family members garage earlier, diagnosed as the fuel injector pump seems to be on it's way out. It could go on for months but I'm drawing a line now and selling up.

It's a big job to replace (not my expertise) and will need to remove timing belt too, so it's not worth time/effort. It seems such a shame as it's served me so well and managed 8,000 miles, pretty much trouble free!

Cheers buddy.

Guy on eBay is absolute idiot - feedback suggests he does this all the time! No time for idiots like that, already got my listing fee and that back - going to re-advertise it on Facebook and lower price slightly I think.

Facebook was worst yeah, got £465 for it on eBay so I’m happy. Should be gone later this morning.

It’s been a blast YF02 WMZ. Enjoy your new owner who is buying it as a project to get things fixed.
