Toyota Crown JZS171 - JDM Barge
Discussion
Thanks
Anyway, she's had a wash and is looking great now! Won't last but good to see it clean. Main goal is to get all the muck off so it doesn't stick.

The mods you really need are
a) the white lace seat covers
b) white cotton gloves
c) White shirt and dark tie
Full Japanese taxi attire for the perfect Qcar/sleeper look
Love the car BTW

Looks mega in the side profile shot, love the profile of the rear lights!

This is the sort of thing I find most interesting now.
Affordable, interesting, older cars.
You can have some fun playing with them without worrying about residuals or warranties.
That’s what it’s all about after all, a bit of fun.
Agree, and compared to a generation ago there's a wide choice of 10-15 year old cars that are still reliable and solid enough to be useable, and still powerful and sophisticated enough to be interesting to drive.Affordable, interesting, older cars.

Looks really, really well
I agree, needs wider tyres and maybe lifting a touch and then space the alloys out to get them a bit more flush, rather than tucked in, but that's my personal preference
I can't stop looking at that Blit on eBay Will have to have a serious think come the New Year

Auto boxes are fine up to 500 mate, have ran Aristo big turbo auto's with no issues, you just need decent cooling
Was told 350 max, maybe different box on 1j? Aristo is 2j isn't it?A comparatively simple upgrade would be to use the 2JZ-GTE gearbox with the 1JZ-GTE valve body and ECU (might need to do something with the output shaft/propshaft). It's been done with the 2JZ-GE valve body and 2JZ-GTE auto box.

Thanks guys!
that's exactly my point, for under £5k you can have something interesting, don't get me wrong it isn't cheap to run but low/no depreciation outweighs the cost of running in my opinion. Not that I bought it for that reason, I simply like weird/unusual cars.

Scrubs up well Grudas, what are you using? I have a K4 in the garage which just about stops the Crown from going brown in this weather.
nothing special during winter really, just snowfoam, two bucket wash and some sonax BSD to protect it between washes.BMW A6 said:
A lot of 1990s Mercedes S class and modern day Bentley in the side profile
I can see that! d_a_n1979 said:

do it! they're extremely rare here in uk.. While I prefer the crown estate that blitz looks epic I agree, needs wider tyres and maybe lifting a touch and then space the alloys out to get them a bit more flush, rather than tucked in, but that's my personal preference

That's a very cool car indeed.
Personally, I would like engine mods but keep it looking OEM to remain 'under the radar' and give the proper Q car status.
it is very much standard other than wheels and some lowering, even exhaust is oem - might change but nothing crazy.Personally, I would like engine mods but keep it looking OEM to remain 'under the radar' and give the proper Q car status.

Congrats on RCOTW mate - we need another South Eastern meet so I can see this in person! Maybe once we're the other side of winter though?
cheers bud! yes we do! I would turn up in either my s2000 or the crown! Coming out of my PH hiatus for this post.
I'm a HUGE fan of Toyota Crowns. Luxurious, powerful and they just look so good, very underrated car even by the modified JDM scene.
Saving for a house at the moment so can't afford to buy one right now so probably going to wait 18 months and import an Athlete V Estate. Just makes perfect sense as a powerful and comfortable family barge.
Is it as sensitive to the type of fuel you use as the 2 litre JDM turbo cars are? Is the economy absolutely abysmal?

They're great cars! I'm genuinely enjoying mine. Estates are uber practical too, even my saloon has a huge boot, shame that seats don't fold but that's a very toyota/lexus saloon thing to do. And 1jz is a beautiful engine.I'm a HUGE fan of Toyota Crowns. Luxurious, powerful and they just look so good, very underrated car even by the modified JDM scene.

to be honest with you I only run it on V-Power or Momentum so can't tell how it behaves on 95 etc, momentum seems to be a bit better economy vise and returns 1-2mpg/average extra over vpower, power/response wise it is all very similar/not something I notice.
I'm averaging around 19mpg now so not great but hey, can't have it all! I do have a heavy foot and mostly commute through country lanes and some a roads.
