I love these and for the pure fact of them forgetting to ‘turn down’ the exhaust I would have to have a 2015 model.

What a weapon!!! Will keep my eyes on this thread, still a bit too pricey for me but hopefully one day.

Certainly is a brilliant sounding engine! Great that it can be noisy in dynamic, then easy to live with in comfort mode.. This with a decat downpipe and secondary decat pipe sounds ridiculous (no idea what I'll do come MOT time....)

That’s lovely...I said the same thing about the RS6 too

That colour with the black pack looks fab. The only thing that I’m not too keen on are the wheels.

These make a fan noise; a lad in my village has one and it sounds ace as he leaves the village onto NSL county lanes.

Many thanks smile It is quite an addictive sound, there is a stupid amount of pops and bangs from the exhaust, I'm a bit of a child, so enjoy it on my favourite roads! (Not in towns) quite hard to not make it do it.

I do agree with the wheels, may change them at some point, not sure what I would go for though, I recon Dark bronze may look quite good as a colour though.

The lad in my village seems to enjoy the pops and bangs all of the time. The child in me does giggle if I’m honest.

I think a dark silver / anthracite would look lovely against that colour. Boring I guess, but nice.

They are quite fun! I've yet to hear them properly too.
It did make someone jump today outside dunelm when it started up which I didn't mean to do, starts with quite a large rev!

That would look good with the blue smile

Finally managed to put a tank of 99 in now. How long does it usually take the ECU to re learn the higher octane fuel?

It has nothing to do with the ECU learning. Lower octane fuel is more prone to knocking, which is especially prevalent in highly turbocharged cars.

If you have ran the tank down and put some higher octane in you’re good to go.

I’m always interested in remaps designed for 99 octane fuel only can they do lasting damage if a lower octane is used or do you just suffer sub par performance?
A friend of mine detonated his Golf R engine by using 95 Ron fuel in a heavily modified and remapped engine, then taking his mate out for a demonstration run!

I have a stage 1 98 Ron APR remap on my S5, and was told that if ever I can't find Tesco 99 or Shell V Power, I have to use an octane booster.

I’m amazed the Audi Ecu just doesn’t pull timing if lower octane fuel is causing knock, or do APR et al disable knock protection?
I had to deal with this back in my Subaru days but that was 20 years ago!

Lovely colour btw op.

Hmm, even with higher octane fuel in, and some octane booster, it still does to be hesitating under boost frown Looks like I'm back to the tuners, hope it's not do e any damage!

+1

My rudimentary old GM ecu does a good job of adjusting timing based on fuel quality... I’m struggling to believe that the latest generation of turbo cars can’t handle a tank or two of lower octane fuel before lunching themselves.

Anyway, I hope it’s an easy fix, aside from the hesitation issues it looks like a lovely purchase. I’ll be following with interest.

It does to a point, but if you are tuned for 99 then you can't "protect" that much as you effectively move the safety point up.
Don't know why you wouldn't just use 99 anyway!

It does, but if you are pushing the limits and mapping purely for 99ron fuel, then it may not be able to pull enough timing, fast enough when knock is detected. It would be fine aslong as you dont attempt to use all the performance, as soon as you do the ecu cant keep up and things go bad.

The 99ron mapping may be requesting much more aggressive timing than is suitable for 97ron.

Hopefully there is no serious issue OP, its a lovely looking car. smile

Thanks guys smile Hope it's not too serious, engine sounds fine otherwise. I Just wish I had asked the salesman about the fueling, then I could have headed to shell if there was one near by, as it's my first properly remapped car (also would have been nice to have more than 0 miles in the tank! on the handover!) Even a fivers worth..

I contacted the tuners today, who said to let this tank of 99 run through, then fill it up again to make sure, fingers crossed after that.

I saw my first other RS3 on the roads today, got a cheery wave from the driver which was nice smile

Got back from the tuning company today, in the end it needed the coilpacks and the spark plus replacing, so not as serious as it could have been.. all is well now! And drives famtastically

Finally got to try full throttle on the way home, seems bloody quick! Has the same shove in the back feeling as RS6 had, and the 5 cylinder at higher revs sounds very addictive!

Glad to hear that it was nothing too serious.

Bet it feels properly fast...they’re not exactly slow stock.

Was very pleased it wasn't too serious!

Really does feel rapid, quite a bit lighter than the RS6 as well. At some point I may venture back to MRC too see what stage 3 involves.. It still feels very solid, even in this terrible weather which is great.
