Thanks, very kind.
I like the idea of swapping to the V8, I wonder if right hand drive would present any problems?
You are welcome. It has been alot of work and tonnes of fabrication. for RHD, you might not be able to keep AC, also might have to cramp the header down to clear. if you get a early 4.2 32V might be less cutting involved. I have to cut and weld my Strut towers, drivers and Passenger Firewalls too. I like the idea of swapping to the V8, I wonder if right hand drive would present any problems?
Picture to give you a bit of idea of what I have to do for my drivers side.. Now if you can weld, and fabricate. it is a noble undertaking.

Very interesting build thread that I am watching with interest. I am interested in seeing what engines fit in these 924/944 chassis as potential future replacements. I love the look of the 2.7 V6 however I’ve never worked with one and I have no idea if it would fit size wise. I also quite like the Volvo T5 motors but again, have no idea if they’d be compatible.
I have a parts car in the garage. I’m very tempted to remove the engine and give one of these conversions a go.
Thanks man, It has been a lot of fun. I do plan to do a 2.7t swap new after this one is complete and running proper. the heads are the same distance apart as the 4.2L but the engine is shorter by about 3 to 4 inches. They are very good engines and can put huge power down. but in a 924/944 chassis, 400hp is about make you want really, they do not weigh much. hmm Volvo engine could work, I have seen Toyota engines in these before too.I have a parts car in the garage. I’m very tempted to remove the engine and give one of these conversions a go.

I'd say something to be careful about with another inline engine is whether it needs to be fitted upright, with how the original engines are canted over and a lower bonnet line corresponds to that.
Escy has a thread on putting the 2.7T V6 into Boxsters ( https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...), I'm sure he can tell you a hell of a lot about the size of them and relative clearance of exhausts each side etc.
Sweet this is very good information later for a 924/944 swap, wiring wise 100%. it is true to keep the engines as the stock angle and much as possible. just with oil galleys how they flow. Hey all. I will be starting my Dashboard modifications and repairs to fit my A8 cluster and to make room for my wiring that will need to go through. I will post pictures of the dash as I make progress. should be able to start it this coming Friday or Saturday. depending on work schedule. Thankfully I have 2 spare dashboards here I pulled out of 2 old cars going to the scrap due to some awful crash damage. I plan to do the top of the Dash in Black, and the lower half in out family tartan as shown in my thread a bit earlier on my Door cards and arm rest/cassette holder

Brilliant, keep it up ( I’m not sure that upholsterers use that kind of hammer though )
Good luck with it and thanks for keeping the updates coming
Lol thanks man. I was actually using the hammer to help with stretch the material while heating up up to around 250 Degrees F. easier to press it with a hammer at that temp. I will continue updating as much as I can. also the wiring stuff I have been working on.Good luck with it and thanks for keeping the updates coming

For LHD cars, you should be able to get "overmats" to cover the top of the dash that are pretty form-fitting and look not bad. As you've found, DIYing vinyl around compound curves is a bloody nightmare!
My dash is at least as bad as yours, I was thinking of flocking it when I get round to fixing it.
My 924 did come with a cover, but it is long since shed its skin lol. Hand stretching the Vinyl has been a pain for the far left side since it has the half moon section there, just having to do it little at a time and heat.My dash is at least as bad as yours, I was thinking of flocking it when I get round to fixing it.
Flocking works really well from what I have read. also you can purchased Padded dash filler compound as well. it mixes like Bondo or Boog filler for body panels.
I am having fun and because I do not care about OEM look lol. Learning this material has been really cool too. Also this blue material is very good quality compared to the black stuff I was using. I will be ordering in more blue material and redoing the plaid. try to get the lines as straight as possible.

Enjoying it and learning is what we do it all for eh?
You do not have to be great at it to start with but you do need to start somewhere in order to become great.
Agreed 100%, if you do not enjoy it. then you can not learn it. was taught that at a young age by my Dad. we worked construction for many years. You do not have to be great at it to start with but you do need to start somewhere in order to become great.
A lot of people will think I am crazy. but that is perfectly fine haha!

I love the look of these square dash interiors but I hate them passionately at the same time! Every one I’ve ever had has been cracked to bits, all distorted around the cluster where they’ve cracked the whole way through. Doubled with the fact that trying to repair one and rewrap it is a nightmare due to its shape. I see that a few companies are selling dash caps which doesn’t fix the problem but makes it look a lot better I’m sure.
Fair play for having a go at recovering the dash. It’s certainly not an easy task to undertake. Neither is a V8 conversion for that matter.
they are nice. I do in a way prefer them over the Oval later dash, they just have more style, and yes. It is a pain to try to do the recover, but it is really fun. I always enjoy trying new things when it comes to the automotive world. There is so much to learn and understand. Hopefully can have this Dash done by the end of March, it is really all down to my work schedule and what other items needs to be taken care of around the house. Fair play for having a go at recovering the dash. It’s certainly not an easy task to undertake. Neither is a V8 conversion for that matter.
