840 manual swop is straightforward, the hard part is sourcing a manual box.
I think this company may have some knowledge re BMW boxes in old Jags:

Thanks, I'll take a look. I'm not too familiar with BMW boxes and which would fit in an 8-series - it is definitely a temptation, even though I didn't like the way my old one drove. I think this company may have some knowledge re BMW boxes in old Jags:

She still looks great, Graeme's garage is most certainly what it deserves, not an old chicken barn Last week we got the Faded Jag up in the air to see what the underside looks like....after I'd had a set of £31 per corner jinyu tyres fitted just so that it could be moved around the workshop more easily.
With the new tyres on...
Up on the ramp, before I'd looked underneath....
Looks alright from this end, but what can you spot?
Easier to spot from this end perhaps.
Yep, a nice big hole and a dent in the passenger floor. I own worse and I'm not too worried really.
The sills aren't too bad. I'm still supposed to be selling this car, but I do like the idea of seeing how affordably I could get it on the road, and then I start thinking about suspension upgrades....
The replacement oil/water gauge turned up for the MG after waiting for more than a month after sending the other one back. Works fine but isn't backlit - which I find quite odd. This is now ready to go home again, except that there is no space because the builders have been in....
Just before tier 4 hit us on Saturday afternoon I had to pop to the garden centre and as always, the red Jag's boot swallows more than you'd expect.
Yesterday we got this back out. It hasn't moved at all this year, so it needed a pre MOT inspection, a few jobs doing and then it will be ready to have a minor amount of body and paintwork done before I take it home.

Once again I find myself genuinely excited about someone else’s project. I can’t wait to see this progress
Merry Christmas.
Thank you! I'm very excited about it too. This car is special to me for a few reasons, and its fair to say I've stressed about it a lot over the last couple of years, but I'm really looking forward to getting it back on the road.Merry Christmas.

Gorgeous!
And probably better than new!
Thanks! Can't wait to get it looking more like itself again. There are a couple of lower down points where I'm not happy with the paint, but at this point we'll just sort them ourselves. I'm just very glad to have the car back. And probably better than new!

Great updates. Love reading them.
My Dad died in November but he had owned various XJS' over the years.
Just before he died he sold this V12 LeMans which was immaculate.
My condolences for your loss. I'm glad you enjoy reading the updates and I'll endeavour to keep them coming regularly (its not like I don't have enough of them to do!). His Le Mans looks lovely there, and hopefully its being enjoyed by the new owner My Dad died in November but he had owned various XJS' over the years.

Happy New Year everyone....
Only a small update for today really. Ordered some new brake pads for my daily XJS, and decided to go for upgraded pads to see if they do make a difference when driving quickly on b-roads.
No sooner than they had arrived, the car decided it didn't want to start. It has never let me down previously so I was a bit surprised! Ticked over 213,000 miles a couple of days ago and today the fuel pump decided to fail. I can't really complain and the replacement was cheaper than expected so that should arrive tomorrow all being well.
I'd also ordered nearly £800 worth of bushes for the XJR-S so we can begin restoring the underside and they arrived today (along with air filters and a gearbox sump gasket).

The underside of the XJR-S has been mostly disassembled by this point, with the front and rear subframes dropped out and the rear one taken to pieces so it can be properly painted - and some damage rectified where someone has tried to remove the rear callipers without dropping the subframe first. Its nice to see progress going on. In the next couple of weeks I'm hoping it will all be back together and I've got to get the interior taken away to be sorted out.
The facelift XJR-S is all done, and will be going up for sale. It is lined up to be featured in a magazine article with my Alpine GTA, but that got rained off today as the roads were all flooded around here yesterday.
I had to do a 350 mile round trip for work the other day, and the only car I was going to take was my daily XJS. It had the new brake pads fitted last week, and we also believed the fuel pump had failed at the same time it came in. A new pump was fitted, though the old one does still work (but is old), as it was a combined issue with the wiring to the fuel pump - which you can't buy anymore. Fortunately I've got a spare 4.0 XJS that is slowly being stripped for parts when this car needs them. Amazingly the fuel pump is absolutely tiny, and much smaller than the usual external fuel pumps you see on XJ-S.
Anyway, my travels took me through the New Forest. I've never driven through there before, and can't think of a better place to drive slowly and enjoy the views. Plenty of ponies around too, which was nice to see.
And another photo, just because.

lovely, something just so right about the XJS
i think its a toss up between a good xjs or an SL for my lottery win daily driver.
I really like an R129, and still have one but when it comes to modifying one it is the XJS that I'm most comfortable with. I'd love a manual SL500 but I'm unsure as to how well that would work. i think its a toss up between a good xjs or an SL for my lottery win daily driver.

I really like that photo. I like the sunlight on the glass of the 911 and the shadow cast. It has a CAR Magazine vibe to me. It's too late for submission to that December 2020 Photo competition - EmptyWell, my facelift XJR-S is now live at auction, and I'm hoping it will go to a good home. Doris the Defender will also be going soon too, which I'm still surprised about myself, as I had no intentions to sell up until recently. Missed out on buying a couple of cars recently but good to have a clear out nonetheless.
Work still progressing with the pre facelift XJR-S, with most of the underside now restored. I'm really curious to see if there is any discernible difference in the way the cars drive, as the facelift is marginally more powerful etc.
I was also lucky enough to get both the facelift XJR-S and my Alpine GTA featured in an upcoming edition of Jaguar World. The GTA decided to disgrace itself, but all sorted now.

The restored front and rear subframes went back under the pre-facelift XJR-S yesterday (I was more than a little excited). The wheels are going off to Lepsons today, and I've got to sort the interior out, but I'm vey happy that progress is being made.
The reserve on the facelift XJR-S has been met, and Doris is selling with no reserve, so I should be a couple of cars lighter by this time next week.

The first car I ever ran after to get a better look at. Maybe '76 or so, at the time all my friends were saying the E-type was better looking. What did they know? Glad someone is doing the hard work to keep this running - but one look under the bonnet of the V12 was enough to persuade me to back away.

The contrasting top colour does bring out something of an XJC profile. Any photos from other angles?

The V12 isn't so scary once you know what you're doing and how they like to be kept, and they're worth the reward.
Some more photos of the Penguin for you. Definitely one of my favourite cars and I love the contrasting top.
Penguin looks great never seen one that colour before, I worked as an Auto Electrician in the early 80's at a Jaguar/Rover/Triumph garage the V12's do look scary but are not that hard to work on, I was always busy at that garage Some more photos of the Penguin for you. Definitely one of my favourite cars and I love the contrasting top.
