I really don't understand some people, the seller was happy to spend almost 6k in one year on maintenance yet is then happy to sell it as a non runner for sub shed money for the sake of an £80 battery.

Still his loss is your gain, top shedding OP.

Had he attempted a few no reserve 99p auctions with no luck or something? That sounds like a bargain.

A new battery, a valet and a well written ad highlighting the money spent would net a nice profit surely.

It's always good to hear of someone getting a good result off an Ebay purchase! But it does happen.
I boughtan Alfa 156 2.5 VR off Ebay with a lot of oil in the water so obviously advertised as suspected head gasket issue. But I fancied the challenge anyway and there ws very little bidding so I got it for, I think now, about £400. Drove it the three hours home and it was a delight, but with LOTS of oil in the coolant!
Looked into it and decided it could be the oil cooler, took it off and, yes, it was cracked! So a real result.
I had that car for three years and then, inevitably I suppose, the floor started falling out so it's gone. But it was comfortable, quick and with an engine sound that made you want to change down and floor it!
Anyway, my heartiest congrulations to the original poster!

A small update, but no pictures I'm afraid!

I've done a few jobs on the car this weekend, I changes the Air Oil seperator which was a really easy job and only took an hour, no more smoke from the exhaust smile

I also removed the front bumper and cleaned out the radiator ducts of leaves and mud. Removed the front bumper trims and painted them black with plastic paint, just waiting for them to properly dry before refitting the bumper.

I also did a 200 mile drive over the Brecons and back to see a friend, the car was great and had a very enjoyable drive.

I'll sort some pictures asap to keep you all interested biggrin

Great bargain! Can't believe it was sold for £920 for the sake of a battery! The car in parts is worth a lot. Tyres and wheels is worth at least 400, steering wheel is 400. Someone on boxa.net broke their 2.5 and made well around 2-3k on it.

But glad you got a great car with most of the work done!

Question about the AOS, you said it took you an hour to do? Is it really that easy as I'm thinking of tackling mine at some point.

Regarding your squeak on start up its most likely the starter motor, mine does that, no harm done!

An update to end the thread...

I sold the boxster!

I had fun using it but unfortunately wasn't able to use it much as after 20 minutes of driving I'd end up with a bad back, little seat adjustment options being 6'6". Each time I got a bad back my enthusiasm for the car waned a little more so I wasn't all that sad to see it go.

I'm still amazed at what a nice and sorted car the boxster is, having never been on my radar previously I'm very pleased to have experienced it especially with such a positive outcome.

I sold it to a chap from France who collected it a couple of weeks ago.

I sold the spare steering wheel that came with it for £350 and the car for £2700 so am very pleased and has left me with a nice budget to get the bathroom refitted!

Yes it really was that simple. If you are ever down south near Bristol then you are more then welcome to call in to my workshop and I'll show you how it's done smile
