Gets better...
Why do companies make promises they can't fulfil directly?

Very typical. When my Disco 4 was hit by a lorry, they offered me a comparable hire car if I dropped the vehicle off. Turned up with the Tri Axle trailer attached, and a box of heavy gear in the back, due to arrive on a field that evening. The comparable loan car, Hyundai Hatchback, with no towbar. Took an hour, but a lovely XC90 with a towbar turned up, that was far better. I said it will wreck the hyundai if I had to have it, and no where to fit the trailerWhy do companies make promises they can't fulfil directly?

After a significant amount of dicking about Enterprise on behalf of BMW managed to get a car to be around 18:00 on friday evening, I jumped in it and got on with the weekends plans.
They gave me a 520d saloon, not too bad considering - but a few observations:
There is nothing remotely sporty about it, so why call it an M-Sport?
Room in the back is not great, with my usual seating position there was 5" between my seat back and the rear bolster.
It's a good cruiser.
Very cheap to run - I filled it up half way to Sussex, (c60l) and have done 400miles on half a tank driving at normal speeds - so probably 55mpg+. (Diesel still makes sense for these kind of trips)
Some bits of the interior felt a bit low rent, especially the steering wheel.
I don't think it felt as nice as the 2009 520d estate we had for awhile.
I'm now awaiting some sort of contact from BMW to find how long they will have the X5 for as Enterprise want the 5 series back tomorrow....

MSport is and has been forever just a trim level .... especially pertinent on a 116d They gave me a 520d saloon, not too bad considering - but a few observations:

Delighted to say it **** itself again last night...
Got in it, turned it on and the engine revved up to c3000rpm and stayed there, the dash was a festival of "oh ****!" warnings... turned it off and on, and was left with a persistent warning, a spanner and a check engine light. (Not the flashy red warnings that were there when I first switched it on)
BMW assistance were very helpful, sent out a chap in a van who managed to get a code off, but could find no other faults - not could we make it replicate the issue.
Drove it into BMW this morning first thing, so lets see what they come up with this time.
Getting ****ed off with it now.

Mercedes seem to be having all sorts of issues with the C350e now they are getting a few years old too.
None of this is new technology, but it seems highly likely there is not enough shielding, or not enough noise tolerance on the electronics side.
The OTA updates/brick-your-car-remotely-for-free side of things is laughable.
I suspect it's a very small % of cars that are impacted, but given the numbers being produced it will still be a lot of duff cars.
Mrs Brett is at the point of not wanting to use it at all now, (because A: it might die on her and B: the 4.6 makes a much nicer noise) and I'm getting irritaed enough that I will be speaking to the lease firm later to see what my options are...

Update:
Had a call from BMW yesterday afternoon, they have found "a large number of fault codes on the EME" and were asking my permission for the car to be taken home by a tech so it could be driven around to see if they can replicate any of faults.
If they can't then the next steps are them reaching out to BMW UK for further assistance...
In the meantime I should be getting an F-Pace to fill the gap at some point today.
I've had a chat with the lease company, they are not exactly chuffed and will be starting a complaint with BMW Corporate, (assuming a clear route cause and fix is not found soon) options TBD...

This morning Mrs BrettMRC popped in to the dealer while she was passing and they suspect they may need to replace "something in the chassis" but are not certain yet.
I'm awaiting their call to get it verbatim and see whats going on, I'm assuming if it's in the chassis then they maybe referring to accessing the HV battery and its controllers.
