I ventured out before, there's negativity everywhere. It really is a shame, because there are some fantastic people on PH.

Yes, alas. I've been on PH a little while and I only ever read Reader's Cars. And then only once or twice an hour... paperbag

If I wanted to witness people screaming unsavoury opinions and instigating conflict with random strangers, I'd venture outside the house.

Is that a pearl or a trick of the light?

I think it must just be a trick of the light, it's the high build coats which I'd guess at being flat grey?

I was enjoying the original project thread which went quiet and had missed this one but have been catching up on progress and love how it's going.

Years ago I bought my then girlfriend (now wife) a 1990 GSI 2000 in Mistral Grey. It was her first car and I taught her to drive in it but by the time that she passed her test it had ended up subtly tweaked with suspension mods, a Janspeed, and was on motorsport-derived 18s in a nod to Cleland and Allam's cars. We both loved that car and I'm now suitably inspired to start searching the classifieds for another one, which probably won't end well.

I donated a pair of side skirt endcaps to a PH user some years back and suspect that it may have been to the OP. Back in the day these became rare as hen's teeth because they covered up and hid one of the main rust weak spots and had a tendency to fall/fly off when the metal behind had completely dissolved.

Great to see this car made good and going into paint.

Your username was JonJon2015 back then I think? I've just linked the old thread to this one as a few people have asked about what happened to the old one.

You're thinking of the right car though, you sent me a drivers side end cap which is the one that is currently being painted and will be attached to this car, so it was put to good use mate. Thank you again. You were right in the original thread when you commented that they were rare!

If you're on Facebook, there are a couple of good clubs/groups to join where most of the cars and parts seem to come up for sale. There's an SRI saloon that has just come on for a couple of grand, I think it's got an XE motor in it.

As mentioned above, the painter has been in touch with some more progress pictures;

Aerial hole very much gone!

And this little tease that he sent me of the car being put back together. Not long now!

Looking good, bet you cant wait to see it in one piece again!

I saw two cav's in convoy on monday, both white and stickered up in the btcc colours funnily enough, both looked to be stripped out with cages etc. too. It was mid morning and in Durham, did wonder what they were up to and one was smoking quite bad!

I'm beyond excited, it's been such a long time coming!

There's a lad on one of the Facebook groups that has a couple of replicas and lives in the Durham area, Consett I think. He has one in the later colour scheme, and another in the early colours. I'd put money on it being him!

Following with interest. Have always had a soft spot for the Cavalier having owned one in the past. My attempt at a Scandinavian flick hastened its demise.

The paintwork is basically complete now, it's being delivered home on Monday. Agonisingly I'm at work until at least Wednesday, so I don't get to see it right away!

To my untrained eye, it looks bloody fantastic!

Bloody hell that looks absolutely fantastic. Can't wait until we get further updates, one thing's for certain it will get some attention on track days from those of us of a certain age.
