Sounds expensive when you have to change insurance all the time, admin fees, taxing it and losing a month.

Good luck though!
Traders policy for the year is the easiest way.

The budget wasn't as small as yours from memory
I was made aware of this after posting about my plans on the beige - hell of a read and what a journey!

The pain of eBay was a strong theme, he didn’t half have trouble with his “buyers”. You hear the horror stories but I think he had more than his fair share of them!!
I've no idea if it's more than normal or not I don't change cars very often and rarely sell them - I enjoyed the concept and the execution and the fact that it was a monthly installment with regular updates biggrin
I skim read this just now - what an excellent thread and OP's will take some topping! Get yourself a DSLR and some cracking roads OP!

Having recently sold a sub £1K car on eBay I have vowed never to privately sell a car again, I would rather just scrap it so the thought if doing this 12 times in the next year makes me feel sick. The car in question was a 55 plate Honda Civc with full Honda service history (every stamp with every single receipt) and twelve months MOT.

1)First of all I tried an auction and the car went for more than I expected. the winning bidder contacted me immediately after the auction to arrange collection and messaged me every couple of days to ensure I was still free. The night before he was due to collect the car I get a message saying that due to a situation beyond his control he could no longer buy the car. You can claim the final selling fees, but you lose the listing fee (£23 in this case)

2)I then relisted the car as a classified add (another £20), An Eastern European gentleman phoned me, repeatedly told me how honest he was and that he would just pay me for the car and take it today. He turned up with another large Eastern European gentleman, told me how rubbish the car was and then proceeded to squirt used engine oil in the exhaust and header tank while the other one distracted me. Five minutes into the crazy test drive he pointed out the smoke from the oil, immediately turned around and told me the head gasket was gone but he would take it still but for £200. knowing what had happened I repeatedly told them I was scrapping it and they eventually got the message and left.

3)The "£400 in hand today" or "Best Price" messages. I also got a lot of messages from people asking "I thought this had sold, what happened" so I think a car that is relisted arouses a lot of suspicion.

4)The people who email a list of ten questions such as "Does it have ISOFIX", "Why are the dealer stamps in Kent and you live in Surrey", "What is the DOT code on the tyres", "What brand of oil was used in the servicing" and then point out they "have a few to look at". One guy was upset that the car had not been serviced in the last 12 months, even though it had only done 4000 miles in that time. Several times I typed a reply along the lines of "I don't think this is the car for you, my suggestion is that you go and buy a brand new one instead" before deleting it.

5)The people who ask if there is a receipt for a clutch change. When I replied that it was on the original clutch with no signs of wear or slip they would reply "Ah, so it might need one in future then?".

6)The people who offer a price and say they will collect it today never reply when you accept their offer.

Basically 95% of people who are looking for an under £1K car expect to drive away with a perfect, as new car with zero problems for free. They also expect a full refund if they change their mind a few days later, and you to pay to fix any issues with the car six months down the line.

I predict you will throw in the towel way before we get to car 12.

I have a Jaguar X-Type 2.2d lying up at my lodge on Loch Lomond, runs and drives fine, i only left it there as it had a towbar and a few folk up there use it to launch their boats/skis.

I've got a towbar on my daily now so no longer need it so will be selling it cheap soon, would make a good road trip for you as well wink

Hey toastie. Here’s an idea, I’m in the East Midlands. I think from memory you’re in Gloucester?

If you find a motor this year in the 3 counties: Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire, I hereby volunteer to collect you and take you to your new trusty steed. Or pop and look at one or two if you think it’ll help.

Would make good channel content.

Any other members want to add their support and location to this list?

Not a bad idea! Im happy to give lifts around Manchester/cheshire area if you get a train ticket to stockport (fuel is expensive especially when you get sub 20mpg)

Fair play chaps, any offers of support / standing and laughing in the hard shoulder / binning off that old nail that is devaluing your property much appreciated.

Email is as above if anyone needs to contact me privately, too
