A car a month for 2020. Idiocy but you love it.

I love this, to the point I said to myself i'll give it a go.Now i appreciate we our at opposite ends of the country and £500 ain;t gonna buy you much, but down here in Devon limited to and ebay search within a 20 mile distance from home, all i'm getting is spares or repairs. Tomorrow I will expand my places of search and see what they turn up. Did you set yourself a distance from home or are you able to collect from further afield should the need arise?
I’ll collect from anywhere - I’m collecting April’s car from 460 miles away.... Don’t discount cars listed as spares or repairs though.

I bought a MGF listed as SoR for £250, got it delivered by the owner FOC from Portsmouth (I'm in Sheffield), put it in for an MOT to see what was needed to get it roadworthy, cost me £18 in parts. For £268 I had a usable convertible that saw 2 years service until a slide on a diesel coated roundabout.Don’t discount cars listed as spares or repairs though.

How good would a video full of us taking you 460 miles leg-by-leg be?!

Ding ding ding! We have a winner.
I have bought a 2002 Rover 75 Tourer - a 2.0 CDT Classic SE.
Finished in Copperleaf Red and has a very understated velour interior - most 75s I’ve seen have really quite OTT leather covered everything.
This particular example has covered 255,000 miles - and has a very short MOT (breaking one of my own rules - it doesn’t have enough test to last the month!)
What drew me to it though is the history - it was a demonstrator when new but has been with the same private owner since 2003, covering the best part of a quarter of a million miles with the same owner! Extensive service history and as you’d expect, plenty has needed replacing at the mileage it has covered.
Runs and drives very well - doesn’t feel as worn out as it has a right to. It’s going to need a bit of a tickle with the sparkly stick for the test, sadly!

Thank you, thank you very much
Strong work sir - I actually quite like that. Look forward to the updates.

Where are you based? I'm a qualified welder, but have other employment, so keep my eye in for the fun of it and to earn a small amount, so my labour rate is very low. I'm just near Warwick / Leamington Spa / Coventry.
I’m in Gloucester so you’re not a million miles away.... finding the time to come to you might be more of a challenge modernheroescars at gmail dot com.....

Need to get the finger out and get quotes for the welding pretty quickly - don’t get much time to get things sorted with this quick turnover thing!
Are you not banging it in for an MOT 1st incase there is something on the welding side you ve missed? I can potentially help out with welding, or let you use my welder and workshop, based in Bristol.
PM me if any use
I also know of a very good MOT garage in Cheltenham, he's pretty flexible and MOT retests are free within 10 working days.
Plently of helpful MOT places in Bristol too but probably a bit far if a retest is needed!

Came across the 75 video, which reminded me of a thread on PH I'd sort of read... Aha, two and two together!
Fellow 75 Tourer owner here, as I believe you said in the video, for comfortable motorway munching it's the perfect tool for the job. I bought mine a few years ago to take up 60-70% of my annual miles, it ended up doing 95% so I sold the other car and now solely use the Rover. It's only half the mileage of yours but racks up north of 20k a year, so won't be too many years from passing 200k. They get under your skin, given you can buy one for peanuts I keep wondering whether to get a second.
Glad you're planning to get it through an MOT, they're dropping like flies due to the values, good examples are hard to come by.

A friend still gets his MoTs there and finds them very 'amenable'...
