Loving this thread, only just found it. The Rover was nice, the Mk1 has a much preferable nose and frankly it looks a million times better than the X-Type. I had a ZT-T 190 for a while, nice car once the VIS motors were sorted out.

The Rover has headed off to its new home today too - I’m sure it won’t be the last we’ll hear of it! thumbup

Not much love for the Mk III Golf: mind you I remember testing driving a 'GTi' (Purple edition ?) , was slow as anything, don't think the salesman was too impressed when I said the Alfa 33 (my dad's 1.7 i.e I was 'looking after' for a couple of wks) pissed all over it.

I’m going to give it to you for the correct guess of March’s wonderful machine but the “VW Polo” folks were close too

It’s a 1996 VW Golf (mk3) 1.9 TDi GL. It’s battered, bruised, rusty, damp, has no working locks and only one working electric window.

A fine example. Oh it’s Cat C too. hehe
Amazing. My wife had one years ago, that thing had incredible fuel economy

Yeh awful and the most un-PH ever

But in TDi guise these were economical and bombproof. Perfect fodder for those that don’t give a st for their cars

Drove it to work today. Radio has decided it’s not that keen on life (recurring theme it seems) and it engaged SDi mode at one point in the journey but a quick ignition cycle saw that off (and it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as a lot of other cars are in limp mode, to be fair)

Is it the sony radio that makes the bleep noise if you don't remove it when you get out the car?

Yup. I assume it’s aftermarket - is it not?

I know the GTi was a let down, but was the MK3 poor as a family car ?

I don’t think so but if you read the comments on the recent SOTW one you’d think it was Satan himself.

Nope, it's what they came with back in the day. I had one for a very brief period (only a CL though, not the posh boy GL) and also had a pistachio green Polo for a month after that had a very similar head unit.

My first car, a '98 16v Polo, had the same stereo. The moment it was mentioned here, I could literally hear the sound in my mind even after the best part of 15 years.

Golf now has 3/4 working electric windows. The one with the wood propping it up has had the motor and regulator removed though....

Motors look expensive so I think it’ll be getting a better fitting piece of wood! hehe

Don’t listen to the haters, Mk3 Golfs are better than some give them credit for.
I replied on your FB page, hit me up when it’s time to let go of the Mk3 I’ll have it

That 90bhp TDI is a gem.

Fancy a bit more power for about 50 pence?

I’m listening

Probably not the best idea though because it engages SDi mode sometimes as it is hehe
