Im after a cheap small estate to use as a van, Fabia/fusion/206sw/ibiza etc. Any tips on whats decent?
Buy a MPV instead - Xsara Picasso is my favourite for that kind of use. It’s actually properly like a van when you lift the rear seats out!

Petrol. 1.6 8v - as slow as a week in the jail but utterly dependable.

The 2.0 HDi is a good unit if you need to do diesel but they’ll either be more expensive or dogged.

Almera Tino is good for that, the 3 rear seats come out individually.
Still a few decent 1.8 petrols about for peanuts.
Bulletproof as long as the oils been changed regularly otherwise the timing chain stretches.

Ooo yeah that’s not a bad shout. They’re less plentiful than the Picasso but a decent contender.

I'd go for a Mk I Corolla Verso; though iirc the rear seats come out as 2 + 1. Better looking than the Tino (imo) & 1.8 petrol fairly brisk. Decent bit of kit (for the time) in TSpirit trim.

Haven't seen one for years, but there was also Verso versions of the Avensis & Yaris

Spend this afternoon putting the Fox back together. Still a way to go mind.

Absolutely fking detest working on VWs. Horrible value engineered st.
That's an agree from me!

My first car was a VW Lupo and I can't remember why because I've deleted it from my memory, but I had to drop the steering column and they only way to do this was the drill out two shear bolts. Cue hours of laying on my back with metal shavings all over my face.

Still the most annoying car I've ever worked on. Everything is difficult.

Ive ended up paying 300 quid for a towbar on the shed i know instead of getting a ropey mpv! Gonna treat myself to a trailer.

Probably the sensible approach. I’d never do it because I’m a fking idiot, so you know it’s the right thing to do!

Fox is in bits again to try and sort an oil leak and I’m also sorting those bloody brakes at the same time.

No huge progress with anything really, been busy starting a temporary job that’ll hopefully help keep everything together whilst the job market is utterly desecrated

I’ll get some proper updates towards the end of this week!

As much as id like a cheap shed we all know its Russian roulette what you get and you can soon end up with someone elses problem and out of pocket, it would have cost me 500 quid in tax and insurance just to have it on the road, parking is tight but doable, whereas a trailer when you need it,its there, when you dont it can be parked out of sight and there is very little to go wrong once ive built it.

Just watched today’s video toastie. And to prove I watched it all, here’s a sentence you used near the very end:-

I’m just running out of motivation more than anything else.

Now now mr toaster. You can pack that talk in right now. Get yourself some stiff upper lip, have an iron bru and get yasel diving back into it lad. We will hear no more of this demotivated nonsense.

Chin up buddy, there’s a challenge to complete and only the small matter of a global pandemic to deal with hehe

If it helps, I for one am enjoying all the content. I keep hitting the like button and sharing. Hope you can get a few more content views to help get you motivated.

You'll always get knobhead keyboard warriors on the internet, who can absolutely be ignored unless they put forward a well-structured argument (which of course they won't, because they are knobhead keyboard warriors).

Keep up the good work, and don't let the bds grind you down!

thumbup - tbh they’re the least of my worries at the moment. This bd virus decimating the job market is the biggest pain in my arse right now!

The latest binky project has 127 dislikes, so no matter how good, there will always be someone hitting the dislike button. Chin up, nearly half way through the challenge, and so far only one fail to proceed-but proceeded after a cool down breakdown (not watched most recent one yet, a teething child has put all YouTube on pause)

Regarding your comments on the fox being slightly crusty coming from N E Scotland, I live in N E Scotland, and was able to remove bits of body panels from my previous cars with my fingers. Long wet winters with tons of salt do make a fair bit damage.

Looks like the RAV4 is off to a new home sooner than planned - I’m delivering it to a customer later this week! Bringing something home but it’s pretty bloody uninspiring even by my standards biggrin
