Door card cleaned up surprisingly well - need to find some replacement clips in the right colour which I’m guessing is impossible. Might need to paint some white ones.

The simplicity of it is amazing though - all the car you need and absolutely nothing you don’t.

Indeed I agree, just hope there isn't lots of rolled up newspaper beneath Polyfiller and baby blue Dulux Once.

I’m liking the fact that all of the service parts for this appear to be in firm “NOS st we never thought we’d sell and nearly binned” territory so are super cheap. Good stuff.

Did some mild tinkering, mostly checking the lights work which I’m glad to say they do. It’s so basic it doesn’t have a hazard switch, which surprised me!

Have ordered a few bits that’ll let me get stuck into the engine - not that there’s much of it

Also think I’ve found a solution to the mismatched wheel and spare. Might be a while before that turns up though, coming from Italy.

At least that tyre is rated for 'Motorway' use - an indicator of the potential speeds huh?
laugh it’s an awful winter remould. Will be replacing it with one of the correct wheels.

Looks very clean 'under the hood' from what I can make out. A quick blast with the Karcher will make it like new.
You seriously think blasting a pressure washer at an engine and its ancillaries is a good idea? eek
It’s quite common with the two bucket types. I’ll not be doing it but there’s probably even less to go wrong with this engine!

Well, things moved wildly off the mark from my intended target this year... but that's hardly surprising.

Here's a year in review - I really need to clear the decks in 2021 but the Panda and Aixam are just about to see a flurry of activity!

Truth be told, the RAV4 didn’t feature because I’ve done absolutely nothing with it so there was nothing to say laugh

I think it’ll just be moving on again as-is, I can’t really be bothered with it.

Making some slow but steady progress with the Panda - sorted out some replacement 30 wheels to get rid of the odd ones from a newer model and had some premium* tyres put on them today biggrin

premium enough, its not exactly going to be a track weapon rofl

It’ll handle better than it currently does with two different size tyres on the back, neither of which the same width as what’s on the front!

I'd love to see a test of 1980's spec tyres vs new tyres, surely even new budgets are better than 30+ year old tyre tech
The tyres that are on it definitely aren’t as old as that but it’s a really good idea. Something for one of the tyre perverts to get stuck into I reckon.

Booked the tyre fitting online - had to specify a registration number

They were getting ready to break the news that I’d picked the wrong size for my 2020 MG ZS EV hehe

Time for the Megane to go off to pastures new - glad it's not gone over the bridge, though

Rust is usually the biggest killer of Mk1 Ravs, if yours is reasonably rust free underneath then you’ll have no trouble finding someone who’ll want it.
Fifth gear wear is another issue with the manuals, it’ll start just as vibration felt through the gear lever when in fifth & accelerating & it’ll get worse till it eventually gets so bad it’ll jump out of gear.
That’s not a disaster though as you can buy the bits off eBay (genuine new Toyota upgraded parts) & remove a cover on the end of the gearbox without having to take the box out to change them.
The rust is the worst thing but if I remember right, yours wasn’t too bad in that area.
The engines are even “safe” in terms of the cam belt snapping shouldn’t damage the engine.

I had three Mk1 Ravs & one Mk2 Rav in my time.
The Mk1’s whilst having the odd niggle were reliable & never let me down.
My last one was just too rusty in the end but still drove perfectly.
The Mk2 was a disaster.
Nice looking top spec early “W”-reg car but loads & loads of faults. Turned out to be almost as rusty as the “W”-reg Mk1 it replaced (foolishly I bought it blind online based on description).
In hindsight I should have just kept the Mk1 & refurbished it as I had to do all the same jobs & more on the Mk2.

Anyhoo, I’m rambling now.
Best of luck with the cars, & look forward to future updates on the Panda & Aixam
The RAV4 has been sitting around for ages because I’ve been busy and because it needed the tax class changing from disabled - given the chaos at DVLA for anything sent to them on paper due to COVID-19, I never bothered.

Today, I sent it for a MOT because it expires tomorrow. It passed biggrin with just a couple of minor advisories - ball joint dust boots and slightly corroded front discs/fluctuating service brake. No doubt those brake issues caused by sitting around.

They even sent me some live action shots for some reason

It’s now taxed, tested and the V62 for the tax class change is in the post.

Immediate plan for it is to lend it to my FiL so that I can service and MOT my UN-spec Dacia Duster Access that he normally drives - I’ve owned it from brand new in 2017 so planning on doing some “long term ownership” type stuff with it.

That Panda is brilliant. Missed out on a Marbella a few years back and it reminds me of it. Nearly as basic as my Minor (nearly!)
It really is a fantastic thing. I need to get it running a little better so I can stick it in for a test and start the registration process.

Love those old Pandas - proper basic motoring. In my memory the back seats were just a bit of cloth suspended between a couple of poles, and not that comfortable as a result!
Yeah it’s a “hammock” back seat - can be set up in various positions. Rather hilarious biggrin

This will be my last post on this thread - aparrently telling someone a car will be for sale at some point in the future that asks counts as turning this into a for sale thread.

I’ll be on the beige or YouTube if you want to continue to follow my endeavours. thumbup
