Don't dismiss the Renault Twizy as a great BEC project (that's what I intend to do with mine when the battery dies) - I spent ages finding one for sale with an 'owned' battery so no battery lease applies - but you can also find a 'lease free' one if you are lucky enough to pick up a scrapped one from a yard. Advantages of the Twizy - it well engineered, handles quite well straight out of the box (as RenaultSport developed the chassis & suspension for them), and if you sacrifice the rear seat there is plenty of space for a bike engine install over the rear axle, and fuel tank goes nicely under the seat to keep the CoG low - hey presto a nice light single seat 'sportster' with scissor doors - what's not to love! 600cc CBR-F will do it - there's plenty of shove and economy in that (if geared correctly).

Firstly well done for getting on so well with your project. Learning skills the proper way, by doing it. On the Diff front, my old 1924 Amilcar CGS 4 Cyl, didn't have a Diff either. Apart from low speed turns on tarmac it was fine, mainly as it had large diameter cross-ply tyres that would slip if necessary. Worth a try.

Must be something they are putting in the water.

As I did something coincidentally similar recently

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kit-Car-Single-Seater-V...

160hp MC engine in a vintage ford forumla race chassis .....I've enough cars to fill my drive and enough problems just trying to sort out space in the garage before I can entertain the idea of storage....

But it was bidding cheap so couldn't refuse biggrin

Bravo! Only just stumbled across this build I can’t see any problems at all and fully expect to see this specification winning the 24hour Le Mans endurance race.... keep up the threads pal we’re all abated breath.

I'd personally love an Aixam Mega Van with a bike engine

Awesome! Is that road legal? Do you have a thread on it?

Sadly not road legal yet and maybe never. I've posted about it in kit cars not sure if that will become its official thread or not.

Prob going to strip a lot of crap off, I've been thinking of taking back to look more like the original vehicle and less on the road legal side, which is probably more of a headache. Even just to get running as bare chassis will do for me, I need to know what I need to do with it.

The potential is huge, but the reality is something of a headache as with most things of this likes but at least I've inherited something with a lot of work done already, so have to acknowledge that.

Also acknowledging the thread OPs post, got big big balls to take on something like this as an idea from scratch, I did the lazy thing and saw some eye candy and just went for it, now just got to work out what to do with it

This brilliant and a great write up.

A few years ago I lived in Wem, a small market town in North Shropsire, and there was an Aixam and Microcar dealer.

I shall be watching this with interest!

Whenever I see the name Aixam, I think of the Aixam Mega that won the Andros Trophy ice racing series in the mid 90's, prior to Yvan Muller's domination.

Great thread, following with interest !

fairly sure its still there - at least, there's still half a dozen of the cars still there.

We have some friends who live almost opposite it and the inlaws live in a tiny phallic village <10 mins away.

What's the latest on this? Has it exploded into a mess of broken shafts and sprockets? Or is it doing a record attempt at Santa Pod?

That's actually quite nice ^^ Are the wheels borrowed from something else? They seem familiar.
