I know we're supposed to be practising social isolation but that's a bit extreme.Do you know what the original use of that building was? I wish I had such a facility for working on cars and the fabricating/welding skills.
This is a very interesting thread by the way. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. It was originally a pit/colliery then it was used to train apprentices. I think they later used the tower for fire training type exercises but originally it might have housed the winding gear, I'm not entirely sure.Do you know what the original use of that building was? It might have looked something like this when it was in use...
A couple of new sheds arrived this week.

I'm going to try and punt the Rover on and keep the Niva for a while. I'm hoping to try some off roading in the Niva at some point.
The Rover is a genuine 216 GTI with the Honda DOHC engine, I swapped my £10 e46 for it and have been amazed by the amount of interest (in the Rover) there's been on various social media platforms.
Are Rover 216 GTI's desirable?
Who knows?

This thread is an absolute dream! Where would you say you found most of your good buys?
Define good buys?I bought a lot of cars from a few different sites such as facebook marketplace or gumtree or word of mouth, there's no big secret apart from if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

I worked for a time during the late 1990's in Nebitdag (since name changed to Balkanabat), Turkmenistan. (I don't recommend it as a holiday destination.)One of the main drilling contractors, Nabors I think, used to run a fleet of Lada Nivas for zipping around the onshore oil fields.
It wasn't uncommon to see wrecked vehicles sitting forlornly outside of their field HQ. The drivers had obviously attempted a bit of off-roading, exceeded either the limitations of the car or driver and rolled over.
We never knew what happened to the offending drivers, hopefully nothing worse than sent home with an NRB stamp on their backsides. NRB - Not Required Back.

If I was in any position to buy a third car I'd be very interested in that Rover. I know they are a bit slated, but from what I've heard they are actually pretty fun, so for living in the rural highlands it would be great. Actually, drop me a pm and you never know.
Sold it already!Bobberoo99 said:
Just out of interest, what condition is the Niva in and what would you be willing to take for it? Always had a hankering for one since I worked with a VERY pretty, and VERY good fun lesbian called Rosie who had use of one whenever her classic Beetle was broke!!!
It's in decent condition but I'm not really looking to part with it at the moment.I'm not surprised the Rover is already gone - there weren't many of them back in the day, and most of them seem to have been 3 door ones. Many of which got stripped and caged for the Rover "Tom-Cat" race series!
Good to see great cars still appearing, and the dedication going into that Chevette.

Out of curiosity - what was so hateful about the E46?
This particular example was used, abused and rusty. Previous owner had removed the cats and badly welded some pipes in which were incredibly loud and wouldn't have passed an mot. The interior was cream leather and absolutely filthy, the door handles were covered in oil and it was just generally unpleasant to be inside. The sills under the plastic covers were rotten and the rocker cover was leaking oil onto the plugs making it misfire badly and run on 3 or 4 cylinders.
I imagine a looked after example would be quite a nice car to drive but this one needed far too much work to return to the road and I'm not into track days or drifting enough to warrant keeping it for that kinda use.
