Last Sunday I swapped the cavalier for a Belmont!

That looks classier than I remember them being!

Keep ‘‘em coming. Love this thread.

Amazing that you keep unearthing all these 80s vehicles!

With current prices and interest in modern classics I'm sure there is a few quid to be made with mild restoration in some cases?

This has been the best thread, I've ever read, I was hooked from your first post. I was gobsmacked at the volume of cars bought and sold. I particularly liked the 305s and subaru brats. Which car have you owned the longest?

Looking forward to more updates. Keep up the good work 🙂👍

Escort ownership is going well...

Day 2 of escort ownership I decided to have a closer inspection of the drivers door.

Someone had previously covered the bottom of the door in silver tape to hide the massive flappy bit of rust! I had a spare door so chopped out a section of it and welded it in.

Also made a better temporary fix of the nsr door quarter glass which had been smashed due to an attempted theft and had been fixed by the previous owner by taping a boots bag to it. My solution wasn't much better but I used some plastic I cut from a drum and made a metal backing so it would be difficult to force open from the outside.

Day 3 of escort ownership I thought a 300 mile trip to the scrappy would be nice. I also spotted a set of wheels for sale near the scrapyard so swung by on the way back.

After a successful day out at the scrapyard and buying a set of wheels disaster struck around 80 miles from home. The rear tyre gave way and all of the steel wires poked out before deflating in a layby.
I discovered I had 5 spare wheels and no jack. I considered all of the ways I could possibly get the car high enough but fortunately I knew someone local to where I was so asked them to bring a jack and half an hour later I was on my way again.
Day 4 of escort ownership I removed my temporary repair and fitted some glass I bought from the scrapyard. I made a start on removing the wheel and found all of the bolts were incredibly tight and one of them sheared when removing it.

Ended up having to remove the front hub, drill the broken bolt from the back and weld a nut on the few protruding threads before it came out. I was afraid that I was going to have the same drama on all other bolts but although tight, they all eventually came out.

Also the trip to the scrapyard was amazing and I got some fantastic drone footage of the place.

This thread wasn't what I expected! laugh

That scrappy is insane.. Like a time warp from when the cars look like they arrived there 20yrs ago!

Wow, have some updates.

I swapped the Belmont for a 2012 Astra van

IMG_8368 by srblythe, on Flickr

I sold the Astra van a while later because it was a bit rubbish.

I bought another 504 pickup, decided I had too much work to do on my other pickup then sold the one I'd bought a few weeks later.

I got some more step throughs, a 77 c90 and 91 c90 with a 110 pit bike engine.

I raffled off the white escort!

https://youtu.be/hc4TeELFfbg

I decided to stick my other 504 in for an mot and sell my ranger.

The ranger sold instantly and the 504 failed its test on a few crusty bits!

I bought 3 505's.

Still have the silver v6 as a spares car, the red one went to a mate and the black gti did £10k. I still have another black 505 gtd turbo I'm keeping.

I bought a shonky left hand drive 305 van then raffled it.

IMG_20230330_171126474 by srblythe, on Flickr

Impreza took a winter of abuse then passed its mot with minimal work.

IMG_6741 by srblythe, on Flickr

I bought a shiny escort estate for £1800 and got back £4k when the time came.

We started our regular retro car meet at the bus museum so made some appropriate signage...

I bought a Wartburg with the 1.3 4 stroke vw knock off engine, I'd have preferred the earlier 2 stroke version. I raffled it and included delivery because it was so awful and found something equally crap for the return journey.

The return journey brought a Porsche 924 with dodgy electrics and a minging interior! I'm definitely raffling it next week.

This weeks car is the mk2 Astra.

Holy Carp!
A DAF! My mother had one.
(Briefly).

The Maestro is one thing, but the variomatic DAF has to be a contender for Worst Car in History!
Well played Sir. Kudos.
