VW Golf GTI - Mk6
Discussion
Well just over a year ago, I posted about my new motor https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... and here I am again.
The C63 is still with me presently and is epic as most would imagine. I know its a cliché but every drive is an event, absolutely each and every one of them! The weather here has been cold of late, and it sounds truely amazing on cold start.
Anyway so why am I here with a new motor - The car is likely to be moved on soon as we plan to move on from the UAE within the next year to go to Spain. I'm toying with the idea of getting it shipped there but in the interim I have purchased a wee run about.......step up the MK6 GTI!
Not much I can to the golf gti discussion as many many more people will know a load more about these cars than I do. I owned a MK6 for a while back in 2013 and found it to be a great all round car, if a little dull. Given circumstances are changing, and with the C63 kicking around, I decided I could not be picky.
This GTI is a 2012 model in a rare (for these parts) 3 door spec. It has most options ticked, but retains the tartan interior which I happen to love. It was an absolute steal price wise for the condition (well for here it was anyway)
Its a 1 owner car, covered 56k miles with full VW SH, and for the UAE is in amazing condition. It has a couple of very minor dinks, some wheels I haven't seen on a GTI before and also a sagging headliner (common in this hot climate).
Plans are to fix the headliner this week (or pay someone to fix it for me). Give it a good clean and polish, and I'm tempted by getting a stage 1 revo remap done to liven it up a little. It does drive amazingly well though and its never going to be a C63, so who knows, I may not even do that!
Apologies, not been cleaned yet!

Looks like a well spec’d clean MkVI Gti. Especially love the silver. Would have loved my Clubsport S to be in silver but tornado red will do lol. Keep us posted with updates. Which reminds me I must update my thread.
Cheers
Thanks!Cheers
I must admit, I've gone fill circle on silver cars. Originally I thought they were great, then boring but I think (and I'm going to say it!) they look great again.
My knowledge of VW options of this era are limited, so I'm not sure how well specced it is. The in car tech is modest, but sounds good. The screen is colour and not too small. It has the full park assist option and turning headlights! I should do a Vin decoder to just see exactly what it was specced with.
Any idea on the alloys? Are they GTI wheels of a poorer spec or maybe robbed off another model altogether!
Found them

I believe they fitted these Serron alloys to the odd 3 door model that they sold here.

Well had the stage 1 fitted today. I kind of expected some positive change after reading numerous opinions, but didn't quite expect as much as what I've come home with.
At low speeds it feels largely the same. Provoke it a bit more and it's very apparent that it's working much harder. Stick in it, and it appears to rev out much much better. All to be expected to be honest but well worth the small outlay.
I don't think the box (albeit dsg) is as smart as it should be though (appreciate this is an early iteration of the dsg). I think sport mode is too rev happy but normal mode seems dimwitted on the down shift after heavy acceleration. I'm definitely seeking something in the middle and may investigate the stage 1 dsg map too.
All in all, very happy for a kick around motor. I'm considering upgrading the infotainment to a newer VW version to offer things such as car play, but some more investigation needed there.

Nice car and good to drive as a pal had a new one in the day.
Just a personal thing....but not a fan of these ' modern black/diamond cut effect' alloys that a lot of cars seem to have lately.
I would consider getting one of these but I would change the wheels....but it's all about personal taste !
Presumably rust is never an issue over there !

On the subject of wheels, I came across a barely used set of Mk7 Clubsport Belvedere wheels with nearly new oem Bridgestones on them. They'd done just 5000km since new from the previous owner before he swapped them.
Bit of a risk looks wise but at 7.6kg a corner they're a handy 3.2kg a wheel lighter than the previous wheels.
Fitted tonight and I like the way they look. Thougts? Appreciate some might prefer the before, being more period and all!

Well I set to and did some lockdown jobs on the golf.
When I bought it, It badly needed some new rear discs and pads. What I assumed would be easy with my modest set of tools, soon turned out to be a pain in the ass.
I really should have done my tool research earlier as I was left needing a M14 triple square bit which was nigh on impossible to find. Everything else I had, even the caliper wind back tool.
Anyway, rather boring snaps. Finally job done!
Starting (lacking the triple square!)

After - now wishing I gave the arches a good clean!
