Oh dear, can't say I'm a fan of the new Leg-o-ender.
At least it's only a few months then you can give it back
"Different strokes for different folks" was never more apt.At least it's only a few months then you can give it back
Otherwise we'd all own ghastly Rover 75s.
For what it's worth, I think the new Defender looks great, and care not a jot that it's not a direct continuation of the bloodline.
I'm in the market for a 4x4 at the moment, but they are a bit rich for me right now. In 18mths time, I'll be giving them a closer look.

Very nice I really like the look of them, I’m based in Malvern, and have spotted quite a few convoys of them driving around.
I’ve been having a mess around with the configuration, I quite like a 90 with the white steel wheels!
The convoys will be from Eastnor Castle where the retailer training is taking place.I’ve been having a mess around with the configuration, I quite like a 90 with the white steel wheels!
Yes, white 90 with steel wheels is the winning spec!

This isn’t a Defender replacement imo, it’s a D3 D4 in rugged spec.
Completely agree. LR seemingly intentionally abandoned the commercial market by not having the old Defender in production up till the launch of the new one. Everyone who drove a defender for work now drives an Isuzu D-Max and LR seem happy with that, but the proper gap in the range is for a Discovery in the old sense. LR deliberately pushed the D5 upmarket, which made no sense at the time but fits perfectly now we know what the new defender is.RizzoTheRat said:
Yeah I'm with you there. I really like the look of this but it just feels wrong to me to call it a defender. It's a shame given the heritage that they no longer do a workhorse, but I guess there's a lot less market for that these days.
Where I live it’s very rural and the farming community seem to like the Isuzu D-max. Having said that there’s also a small family run Isuzu dealer in the next village and this probably also helps influence things. agent006 said:

Land Rover can't compete on production or price with the Japanese manufacturers so they've effectively removed themselves from the commercial 4x4 market. They'll undoubtedly do a commercial model which will be VAT deductible to cater for the demand from business owners. One point that is often missed is that a lot commercial vehicles are written off as business expense and are therefore often well specced and often rather expensive. Even a Transit or VW T5 could easily cost 30-40 grand. There'll be plenty of trades or wealthy farmers/landowners who could drop £35-45k on a Defender and write it off as a business expense.

What’s it like to drive on the road and what is comfort like on the motorway?
Do you happen to know if it is going to get the straight 6?
I really love the look of these and would be great for taking the family on holiday especially with jump seat my son would go ape st with joy at being in the front.
But obviously I would have to want to drive it for 11 hours over to Austria.

Sorry, we’re not publishing any driving impressions just yet. You’ll have to wait a little longer I’m afraid.Do you happen to know if it is going to get the straight 6?
And I definitely can’t talk about future product plans!
