Great!
That depends on what you want, I love the stealthy look of Waitey's no-decal car, but I do enjoy seeing the Alpina decal
Tbh I’m torn with the decals, I had them on my E91.That depends on what you want, I love the stealthy look of Waitey's no-decal car, but I do enjoy seeing the Alpina decal
I’d be tempted for grey ones one mine, you wouldn’t see them from a far, but would be subtle up close .
MOT tomorrow, should roll over 293000 miles too.
Last time it annoyingly had 3 advisories.
An oil leak, which I traced to the dip stick o ring and fixed
A light out on the rear, which has been working ever since...
A bad track rod end, which just turned out to need the nut nipping up to the right torque.
So fingers crossed its all good, there is a chip on the windscreen but thats on the passenger side as well as the slightest bit of side wall damage on a rear tyre. We shall see.

Do you open and close the boot often?
Common fault in some BMW Tourings is the wiring fails in the boot hinge. Just replaced all mine on my 2005 e61. I realise its a lot older but I don't use my boot much. I'm more of a back seat or behind the driver seat if it's just a bit of groceries or a gym bag. No idea if the same problem manifests on f31 but it does on the e91 I believe. Can be intermittent also if one wire starting to fail.

Each of the last 2 MOT's its gone in with working lights and had one fail during the test.
The most annoying being two years ago when it fail on a rear indicator not working, which was then working again when I picked it up!

WTF?!
It has a BMW vin (visible on windscreen and front wing but the one on the front wing has a cross through it) and a Alpina vin on the front wing. Its had both of these since day one. It was registered on its BMW vin like nearly all Alpina's are, so its V5 and MOT history are tied to that.
Sadly for some reason this MOT tester has decided that wrong and informed the DVSA that its likely a ringer.

That makes sense regarding the VIN, however there are potential ramifications from the MOT tester being a bit too busy, dobbing the car in as a result of his own ignorance.
Helpful person at the DVSA has also pointed me to section 2:20 and taken the flag off the car for potential registration issues.Jobbo said:
Even Sytner branded BMW dealers had difficulty ordering the correct parts for my E46 B3S due to the double VINs. It's probably easier for them to order 330i parts on the BMW VIN but it annoys the owner when there's a delay because they've ordered the wrong thing...
This thing got the incorrect replacement engine the first time due to the VIN's....!Ed.Neumann said:
Haha, I got another letter saying they wanted to see my 5 series again in the autumn, I said I had only had the latest on for a few months, they got it in, looked at it and it was leaking, so swapped it over again and put a new EGR in too this time.
So who knows?
I had the full unit, EGR and cooler in Oct 2023, so we will see. So who knows?
Coolant is certainly going somewhere, as it makes no pressure in the cooling system anymore either.
I'll change the header first, then work my way around some of the hoses too, they have done nearly 300k of work now.
Traced the coolant leak down to the plastic connector which goes to the head.
You can just see the hair line crack in it.
Sadly it was buried under the inlet... 4 hours of work to get to it!
My inlet was amazingly clean considering its been on for over 100k miles!
So I gave it a wipe down, fitted new gaskets and put it back in.
I've also ordered some new O rings for my boost pipes as there's quite a bit of blow by on them.
Can now doesn't lose coolant and the heater actually works! The road to 300k continues.
