Wow I applaud you for doing that kind of mileage in some interesting cars! ????

I really wanted a D3 but couldn't afford one do bought an f31 330d touring. Had a e92 335d before which I remapped, I loved it. The 330d is great, the 8 speed gearbox is better but do miss that engine!

But one question... How do you afford to do that many miles in cars that would only just about hit 30 mpg?

I do 20k miles a year and sometimes think the low 40s I get from the 330d needs Lane man maths to justify!
Errr well, cars are my hobby. So I justify it that way. With the RangeRover Sport I was spending over £500 a month in fuel. The D3 will be nearer £400 so thats a nice saving for me!

I have looked at electric for my mileage, but the charging infrastructure just isn't there yet to suit my work.

The only EV you could buy is a Tesla...and even then!

Great car.

Mr Mallett, the previous owner is Jeremy Mallet, Used Car Director at Sytner. A gentleman from the old school, and VERY knowledgeable about all things automotive.

This car will have been looked after with no expense spared.

I had some Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5’s fitted to the front today.

Pilot Super Sports are all well and good when warm but they drag and aquaplane horribly when it’s cold and the tyre roar off them is deafening.

I got nearly 50k miles out of my Goodyear Assyms on the 335d, so I’m hoping for the same again.

Ooh, I'd be interested in hearing your recommendations for summer tyres. On my E Class estate, I have had Conti Sport Contact, which were good, Falken FK501s, which were great and I'm wondering what to try next.

Do you rotate your tyres?

Snap! Tyres due on the family w212 e class. I'm either going PS4's or Goodyear Asymmetric.

My 335d, E46 M3 & E39 M5 all have PS4's. The wet grip is just something else. Would like to try Goodyear Asymmetric now - warming to the idea of giving something different a try.

Its got Conti6 all round at the moment and there're not great if i'm honest compared to Michelin PS4.

Never rotate.

Can’t go wrong with Eagle Assyms or PS4/PS4S’

Can go wrong with Goodyears. The F1s bulge on the sidewall and it's a thing. My tyre 'man' told me and then spotted in on mine! I then mentioned on the MB Club forum in a general chat and at least four owners mentioned having had experience of this issue, too. Apparently it is for tyres made outside of Europe, though I cannot verify this.

My Michelin Alpin PA3s (winter tyres) don't offer great feedback at high speed in damp conditions. Having said that, I never lose confidence in them.

Staggered wheels will mean it's very unwise/often impossible to do also. Having run both I think the PS4 just edges out the Goodyear. Mainly because they last just so darn long.

Never had any problems with F1s and sidewall bulges.

The way those miles racked up is insane! How does it drive? Does it feel less worn than the miles suggest?
Feels no more worn than my 335d with 40k miles on it did.

I've done just shy of a 1000 miles in it in 9 days, so it's well on track to keep hitting big miles!
How does the suspension on the Alpina compare to the 335d? I think the F31 330d M sport I have is a bit poor.

+1 for Goodyear F1 assymmetric. I had the previous 3 version on the 335d and they were great in the wet and on motorway. Not a sports tyre by any stretch but a great touring tyre. Got over 20k out of the tears also!

Got the Bridgestone run flat's on the 330d now. I hate them so much!

The 335d is on taller springs due to being X drive, so is a little less harsh than a 330d S drive.

The Alpina is on a different planet to them in terms of ride quality.

My first go at fuel light bingo nearly went wrong.... 41mpg for those interested.

Don't those dials look super, so much better than today's arcade machines.

What a great car and how refreshing to see a car being used as it was intended. I am sure there is nothing better for a car than sympathetic but intense use like this. There is no reason why it should not go on indefinitely with a appropriate maintenance. I must say I love the ethos of Alpina: so much more complex and sophisticated than the increasingly vulgar M-cars. Even the dekal set somehow is the epitome of restraint. Will you be removing the window tints? To my eye the car looked rather more subtle without them.

I'm not sure on the tints. The dog lives in the boot all the time. Therefore all my things live on the back seat and I'd rather they weren't visible to the random passer by.

I am looking into sourcing a black deco set for it though, as I think that'll finish it off.

It was due in on Friday for its end of Warranty check. Sadly (but understandably) that has being cancelled by Sytner. I hope they'll honour it though.

Being a 'key worker' I'm still putting ~350 miles a week on it (down from ~600).

I must admit, I went to call about this and the ad had gone.

I had a couple of sleepless nights about this one too. I was so close to breaking my rule about never buying a diesel.
