Another silver BMW - 2005 330i Touring
Discussion
After the discussion above with rusty rear subframes, I figured I should do something about mine, after it’s been advised a couple of times on the MOT. So, it was out with the rust converter and paints.
Then out with the wire wheel, getting filthy and rust converting.
The OSR wing was painted in 2017, and is generally a good job. Corrosion in the rear arch lip was coming through, though, so I nipped out the fasteners for the side skirts and arch liner to paint it. Usually there’s a hole behind the arch liner as they stay wet and trap moisture and dirt against the paint. Just a rusty patch here so it was rust converted.
Then on with the black paint.
Fortunately I still had some zinc rich primer and titan silver paint in stock so I have the rear arch a quick spray. As you can see I didn’t do a mega job on the masking, I just wanted it to be protected and silver, not brown and grim looking as it was. I also did some areas on the floors ahead of the fuel tank. Just nipped the covers down and went over them. No pics though as I was covered in filth and had little room.
Hopefully this should buy me some more time, I like this car and don’t really want to deal with the used car market as it is. I have some money put aside for a new car, but the crap value for money at the moment and high interest rates makes me more reluctant than usual to spend.

Good eye, Helix. The ferrules on the flexis to the subframe are a bit crusty, but I had the rear lines done in 2020. while I was looking I didn’t get why they didn’t replace those ones, as the front and rear ones were done.
You’re right, much easier. No messing around routing them over the fuel tank (or around if you can’t be bothered).
