Covid-19 - Haircut disasters?
Discussion
My hair is now getting distinctly long. I normally sport a smart short-back-and-sides. These are now looking shaggy. My wife has started to make noises about cutting my hair. She has never cut anyone's hair before but is sure it must be easy. She has found some clippers. At some stage I will succumb.
So I thought I'd start a thread for people to post their or their friends' homegrown haircut disasters.

I really want to shave the centre of my head, like a monk or like how a bald person goes but still has really long sides, possibly even shaved in the middle with a mullet at the back.
Infact my mate has just given himself and his boys mullets
Im not sure if I've got the bottle to do the monk haircut but id love to. We are expecting a baby and i cant stop giggling to myself about the baby pics having me with the monk haircut in them, the baby then growing up none the wiser and one day thinking wtf was my dad doing?

Thinking along the same lines here. Slightly worried about getting the Mrs to do it. Is there any skill involved here or do you just rub the clippers all over your head (against the ‘grain’)?
A mate of mine is a hairdresser and I've suggested he put a video up for all those partners of men who now want their hair clippered. I'll link if he does.PS Clippers are the new bog roll.

My mrs is very keen to have a go at clipper my hair. Her viewing of YouTube videos combined with her confidence is something that’s worries me...
What she thinks I’ll end up looking like...
What I’ll actually end up looking like...
It's not hard to do it properly. When I used to shave my hair years ago (still got the clippers) this was my techniqueWhat she thinks I’ll end up looking like...
What I’ll actually end up looking like...
Wash or thoroughly wet the hair,
stand it up as best possible,
Oil blades
Clip on Guard I used to do a 2 (6mm which sounds a lot until it's on your head!) MAKE SURE IT'S SEATED AND WONT COME OFF
Work from front of head to crown
Work from neck line up to crown on back
Go from in front of ears up.
Periodically ruffle your hair and potentially re-wet it to make sure you don't miss any areas.
Then I used to get someone to straighten up the edges (neckline and also top above your eyes) if you want a sharper look. (its virtually impossible to do the back yourself)
If you want it "natural" then just use a 1 (or no) guard on the nape of your neck. Be careful
Be aware if you have a funny shape head, it WILL make you look ridiculous!
Don't go too short too soon. Else you'll look like Tom Hanks in Philadelphia!
Tempted to go for a number 4 in due course. Might try blending in a 3 or a 2 on the sides
Remember though. The difference between a good haircut and a bad one is 4 weeks. And as we'll still be in lockdown by then...

I’ve mastered the art of a razor behind the head to sort my neckline.. purely done on feel, shaving fairly slowly upwards until you feel thicker hair. I used to always check with the Mrs, but after a couple of years of not needing it refinished have the confidence I do alright.I’ve not done DIY barbering for a while, but will post results when I cave in the next few days!
