Panic buying a pandemic Ferrari
Discussion
Sorry for putting more 205 comments on your Ferrari thread but I cant comment on YouTube for some reason.
Just watched your latest video, for the starting issue check the brown multiplug on top of the gearbox, corroded connectors can cause a voltage drop causing the car not to start. The standard rear speakers in a 205 are very shallow as there is not much room so a lot of aftermarket ones wont fit, ensure you get measurements before purchasing. Finally the 1.9's have an additional spacer plate between block and sump so probably worth taking that off and resealing at the same time. If you've not already check out the forums on 205gtidrivers.com.

Just saw the recent vid. Fingers crossed the new problem isn't anything too serious (i.e. requiring engine out work).
Really great content, keep up the good work.
Thanks chap.. for all those that don’t know, it looks like I did dose damage in the end when I boiled the InfluEnzo... video can be found here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=10-R7ttboykReally great content, keep up the good work.
Talk about adding insult to injury. £45 (I repeat FORTY FIVE quid !!!) for that water pump union... ?? Robbing bar stewards
Even Dick Turpin wore a mask
Really sorry the old girl's not playing ball Jack. Hope a flush and refill with fresh A/F mix sorts it, but I'm a teeny bit dubious that it will ...

I'd think that if its anything its either a gasket or a crack somewhere but you'd be bloody unlucky to have either. As these things go that V8 is pretty bomb proof.
It is possible with a gasket failure (on any car) that it fails in such a way that while it will let oil/gases out, it won't let water back the other way - not unknown.
Have a look down beside the plugs to see if you can see any coolant. Then I'd get hold of a cooling system pressure tester, pump it up to 1 bar & leave it overnight. Then get a block tester & solution & stick it on the expansion tank to see if there are exhaust gases in the cooling system, if there are then its probably going to have to come out. It might be possible (just) to remove the rear head in situ, but never the front one.
This method also quite useful to see/identify which cylinder might be at fault
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCo0SLeMEfk (ignore the "sermon" at the start!, the useful bit starts at about 3:45)
You might also see a discolouration on one of the plugs so worth pulling them anyway.
Plenty of threads on FChat about pulling engines & also how to get stuck heads off with a pulling plate if its needed.
As you say, won't be anything to do with the oil cooler.
Good luck & keep us posted.

Get the heads off and a little porting done over the winter. I've always wondered whether there could be any more horses found in those 3-litre V8s.
Loads, the heads are really not very good. Gets especially interesting if you stick a 360 crank in it & take it out to 3.4 /3.5 , port the heads, change the cams, EI and/or EFI then you can get to north of 400hp .....but its very expensive to do

Not many really amusing threads on FChat, but I found this gem at 3 am this morning ...

Enjoy it, the guy's got a very dry, ascerbic, British SoH I'm sure you will, because you'll be able to relate to it better than most ...!!!
Truly shocking the butchery inflicted on these cars by less than proficient techs/grease monkeys over the years
I'm reading through it- he's hilarious! https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/chronicl...

I bought a 2001 Boxter S a few years baack, which appeared to run pretty well, but did have an alarming ability to drop a 007'esque smoke screen behind it if I gave it too much gas.
I spent 6 months on and off trying to work out what is was, AOS, oil/air heat exchanger etc... , nothing made much difference. But I wasn't using the car much so didn't try too hard to work it out.
Then summer came around and I used it for work for 1 whole week and it 'drank' about a litre of oil in 300 miles. Checked everything over and found the cooling system was almost solid mayonnaise! Oh st, not good.
Turned out to a cracked cylinder head allowing oil into the coolant and excessively pressuring the engine vents, etc... when giving it some, hence the huge occasional smoke screen.
It's the only time I've seen a car with oil gaining access to the coolant and not the other way round.

Grappling with the silencer this week.. something which should have been so simple! At least I got to start it up just with the headers on. It was LOUD. Video here https://youtu.be/sfggGGbVzjE
