Lovely, a MK2 Golf GTi 16 Valve was the dream car for a 21 year old me in 1994.

Personally I like Harry Metcalfes channel, carfection, the new tyrells classic garage etc and your own to name a few, but I wouldn't suggest you go out looking to become the next big channel star as that is part of your channels charm that it's just you as an enthusiastic amateur detailing your cars/progress.
I've no real suggestions how you build or grow but if you can somehow retain the hands on enthusiast angle around fixing/modifying classics that are attainable maybe?

Good luck anyway !

I also did a Golf GTI Vs Peugeot 205 video, to find the true king of the hot hatches.. it’s not done well which surprised me. Any feedback you guys can give would be welcomed. Sometimes youtube is just weird and these videos pick up weeks or months after posting them. Or maybe this one just wasn’t very good!
Still.. I thought this would have done well.

Golf GTI and Peugeot 205 GTI - Supercar killers!
https://youtu.be/dkSNJBZ9amM
That's because the king of the hot hatches is the Abarth 130TC. Lampredi, twin carbs, big seats.

wink

The title reminded of the CAR Magazine cover from 1985 that had a red 205GTi without a sunroof with a Corfu white Uno Turbo ie. possibly with a sunroof.

Anyone who's old enough to know or care about Golfs and 205s is likely to have their own opinions of them, I suppose that audience may be interested if the video featured some little known fact that they didn't already know. Would the youngsters be interested in the Golf and 205?

With regard to the Abarth 130TC being the king of the hot hatches there was also that CAR Magazine front cover with that and Mk2 Golfs GTis in 8V and 16V form?

Beg to differ in regard to the 130TC. Surely a Sunbeam Lotus is the king and also the grandad of the hot hatch. But then I would say that.
Now there's a idea for a new video..........idea

Yes, had an issue with the new engine so it had to go back to the builder. Should get it back in 2-3 weeks.. and will do a video then

I was liking that little Alfa, I’m thinking “oh that looks like a nice little first classic, wonder if I could sell...” Then my thought was interrupted as you said “£75,000”

The Full GTAs cost over £200k, you’ve got to think about it as 3/4 of one of those at less than half the price. It’s not cheap but I think it’s worth that money. It also had a bare shell rebuild so is basically mint.

This 100%.

Learned to drive in a Golf GTI as well.
It was maybe 12 months old, replaced with another MK2 16v.

The thing was as a work hack my Dad picked up a cheap XR3i, neither Golf would keep up with it down a windy B road, and my mates 205 simply made all three look silly.

But for me, the original and king is the Sunbeam Lotus.

Thanks! The problem is time.. I work full
Time so working on classics enough to make videos the whole time is difficult. I also lack the space.. I will continue but also really
Enjoy driving other cars so the car reviews are good too. Youtube is weird though. I can upload a video that does really badly and then explodes 4 months later. Or I once uploaded exactly the same video as a smaller channel, on their channel it got 3k views in 6 months.. on mine it did 30k in one month. It’s just frustrating because it’s about the algorithm YouTube uses, if it decides to put videos on people’s home pages then the video does well.. if it decides not to promote it then it doesn’t.. no matter how good it is.

I think your videos are good in the current format and you should keep going as you are. If you fancy some E90 M3 and Escort RS Turbo content (once it's back in one piece) then let me know smile

I dont really subscribe to many youtube channels and i didnt to yours at first but then i discovered i was watching every video via this thread and enjoying them anyway, so happily subscribed after a few.

For me your channel has a certain charm to it, there's no billy big balls, it's all just very humble and innocent, no ulterior motives etc. It's easier for me to say because its not me putting the effort into the videos and being let down by the amount of views but if you enjoy making them and enjoy the activities you get up to whilst making them then sod the views.

I did enjoy the latest Alfa one especially, it's a very similar recipe to my 2002 and thats valued at £45k, compared to that alfa it makes my little 02 a relative bargain laugh

2002s are just so cool!

With regards to the videos more generally, A MASSIVE thanks to all of you on PH who have followed the videos or subscribed and fed back on this thread! Great community.

Have fitted an upgraded fuse box and been grappling with changing the oil line to the cooler which is proving so much harder than expected! Also mucked about with the airbox some more....Hopefully a proper update video out next week on that. This Friday there is another comparing the InfluEnzo to a similari priced 456 that my mate also bought unseen during lockdown!

Keep up the great work, Jack. Your videos are brilliant. I love your enthusiasm for just getting stuck in. The InfluEnzo is in stunning condition and I’m so pleased you decided to retain the ‘retail red’ (as Harry Metcalfe calls it). The 308 always looks so right in that colour. I think your earlier model is nicer from the front than the later 328s. Despite the gremlins, I think you got a bit of a bargain here and I’m following your exploits with enthusiasm. Having never subscribed to any YouTube channels, yours was that compelling I couldn’t resist! You are a very lucky chap owning this beauty.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the 456, a grossly underrated car for such a long time but now starting to get the notice they deserve.

Would like to see more of that Alfa again in future. Have been around castle Combe in one of the alfaholics cars and they are every bit as good as you imagine, driving one on the road must be nice.
