Panic buying a pandemic Ferrari
Discussion
Having watched your videos, I now realise that I have seen the Infleuenzo in the flesh (you pulled onto the Bladon/Woodstock roundabout in front of me a few months back) - You looked like you were enjoying it!
Whereabouts (what village) was your car hit? From where it was parked, I'd assume that it was probably somebody who lives nearby. Have you walked around the area looking for cars with a missing rear light?
I had some work done on my Porsche by a guy on the way to Bicester. I was only having a bit of paint but he's well known for his metalwork and one of the UK Porsche restorers uses him exclusively for their £250k+ cars. If you want his details, feel free to PM me. He was entirely reasonable and my bill actually came in £30 BELOW his initial quote.

Firstly I'm so very sad to hear of the damage caused to the 205 - I like many on here I'm sure have greatly enjoyed your recent videos on both cars, and likewise the many others you've posted over the years.
Presumably that's a new ZS as in the Chinese SUV rather than the old Rover one? I ask as the Rover ZS community is a fairly small one and they may know of its whereabouts.

I think there are around 15000 of the Chinese ones on the road right now, if I'm interpreting this right https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&...I suspect many of the new ones are driven by those who would have previously fitted the Top Gear Peugeot owner stereotype. I'd imagine the ZS EV has enough torque to push a 205 a few metres from a near standing start, and do it almost silently. A little jolt from an initial impact might also unleash extra EV torque, to compound the damage from a light bump.
Given that they're relatively new, I'd look up the location of the local MG bodyshops, and do a little reconnaissance. If there's a white ZS with blue paint marks sat outside..
If it’s a new MG, the owner is probably too old or mentally insufficient to even realise they hit your car. Would also suggest they haven’t even noticed the damage yet, much less rush to repair it
Could also be a long-game set up for the video that surely needs to come out of this Jack.
There has been a crime...it needs investigating...the police will be no help...what’s needed is a smooth talking PI to don an impressive cookie duster and get it solved...
Cue the theme tune!

Yes, please. Could also be a long-game set up for the video that surely needs to come out of this Jack.

Anyone on here with access to a Hughes 500?

Thanks buddy. Absolutely gutted
Hope you see this amongst the deluge of messages.A good friend is a detective inspector in Thames Valley police - they cover your area.
I told him what happened, sent him your vid and what you'd found out about the other car and his reply was this:
"I could offer him a job! Make a great detective. Or arrange a ticket for driving with a broken indicator 🤣If he's made a report then it would be pretty simple PNC search for make / model and postcode prefix. More likely than not that the vehicle would be local."
So, please report to police, seems they may be able to do more than you think!
Pretty stty for someone to do that much damage and drive off. One of your neighbours may well know who it Is, worth a poster appeal around the estate maybe ? Plenty of people have cctv now.
If it's written off then perhaps a video series where you strip it and take it hillclimbing / track day?

On your latest video you said it would be £3k to fix Pepe. I am assuming that was full body shop rates and new parts. Can it be done reasonably with used parts or is there something nasty under the skin we have not seen?
The official bodyshop quote for my BMW for the insurance was £6.5k. I bought it back for a couple of hundred quid and spent £1.5k getting it mended with used but original parts. That included the painting being done as well.Pepe doesn’t look too badly damaged so hopefully not too difficult to sort out.
Regarding what the police can do, without the number plate and a witness, not a lot I’m afraid.
Anyway, Jack I hope that your luck improves and keep up the good work.

Thanks all for the helpful suggestions! I have of course reported it to the police.
On another note I’ve started the steering rack refurb on the InfluEnzo so a video will come out on that soon!!
Is it worth a gentle chaser call saying you've identified the make, model and colour of the vehicle and asking them to run "a basic PNC search for make / model and postcode prefix"?On another note I’ve started the steering rack refurb on the InfluEnzo so a video will come out on that soon!!
So Pepe’s gone
An ignominious end to its tenure on the fleet Jack. Sounds as if all’s well that ends well. Well done.
Tough choice between the Alfa and the Cayman, but the Cayman will make an interesting ownership experience to report on when compared with the 308 ...
