Liking the thread, never heard of this version. I owned a Acclaim CD manual from 1984/85? until 1997 (A91 BSF). The mileage went from 12000 to 216000 during my ownership. Sweet engine and gearbox combo and a wizard in snow and ice. This standard car would need a cliff to make 100 mph, the book speed was 92 mph.

Will be watching this.

Never heard of a turbo conversion, I learnt to drive in a blue Acclaim, was the best car I had ever driven at that point biggrin

I was impressed it had twin carbs, miles better than the Micra my fist instructor had.

The original Avon Turbo was fitted with a different speedo. The standard speedo goes up to 100, and the Turbo up to 120 smile

My father had one (non turbo) when I passed my test in 1984.

I was living away from home but was a named driver.

Thought it was so cool to drive around in when I came home.

I like the idea and concept, but what were they thinking with the vinyl roof? Wasn't that about 10 years too late?

The turbo stickers are very 80s. Imagine if every car with a turbo had similar nowadays?

It seems to be mainly the Vauxhall Mokka and Porsche (even electric ones) flying the flag at the current time.

That, is positively awful (the original concept/model, not your workmanship in creating a replica).

I absolutely love it! 'Watching'!

Will contemporary Civic suspension upgrade parts fit the Acclaim?

Never heard of this model, so what a brilliant & interesting project.

Loved the article posted above too, Turbo Technics of Market Rasen, Lincoln hahah, just up the road from me.

Will be following with great interest.

Really useful, that looks like a turnkey kit.
Is your business NOS parts or is it just one of those "useful" things acquired over the years?

I bought several kits a few years back to fit to scimitars,
I think this was the last one,

did you know a fully laden GTC with a trailer on can drop to 2mpg under load?
would not drop to 1mpg but we tried.....

I used to carry spares for the local members, so still have shelfs full of old stuff.
needed a brakelight switch for my defender last month, I had 4 scimitar ones on a shelf, (reverse engineering)

I remember back in the day watching a black Metro 1.3S leave a white Escort RS Turbo for dead at every set of lights on the Nottingham ring road, and it wasn't like the Escort driver wasn't trying, it was brutal! I remember wondering which one was going to break first?

I had a few of these in my younger days, i would say reliable but i did manage to blow one up! On the plus side, the new engine came with Twin carbs (the existing engine turned out to be single carb replacement from a civic) and had loads more go.

Old man looks yeah, but was considerably faster than mainstream Ford, Austin and VW 1.3's plus the bonus of a decent 5 speed gearbox.

Mate had a green CD with electric windows and Air Con that i unsuccessfully tried to put a 1.5 Ballade engine in.

I hope the OP won't mind me posting this, but for the less initiated, Acclaims are starting to get some love, I guess because of the fact most old Jap cars are so expensive now, but Acclaims have the looks and engineering.

I do note that a previous commenter said 'Isn't this just a rebadged Civic?'... as well as the model being incorrect, BL were involved in the engineering of the Acclaim, it wasn't just a rebadge. The Acclaim had different trim to the standard Japanese models, even the seats are different. Half an idea the seats are actually Cortina items or something.

Also, BL were fully invested in this being a world beater, the reason that Jaguar Land Rover and Aston Martin are now based at Gaydon is because BL purchased 'RAF Gaydon' from the air force specifically for using a proving ground for developing the Acclaim. Some guys I know there even remember things like Metro 6R4's blasting around too.

Others are giving the Acclaim the attention is deserves, with few modified ones coming through the wood work including this one, which I'm sure the OP will be aware of.

Nice!

My first car was a Civic 1.3S with the same engine as this, also with twin carbs and five speed close ratio box.

Quite nippy in a little 2 door Civic, even NA.
