Its only a tiny bit bigger than double garage mate. Its 5.5 x 6.5m. It'll get small quick, but I'm going to try my best to keep it efficient.

If it's flat, I used rubber4roofs, really good, they've got a kit builder on their website.

I think the new "shed" is great. I find that once I have put my two young kids to bed it is nice to be able to sneak off to the garage for some WooooSaahh time!

My lighting is absolutely shambolic in comparison to yours. I was looking at the panel lights a couple of days ago. I have approx 40sq metres internal area in the working area of the garage so I assumed about 12 lights would do it. I think you have slightly more, so obviously I am instantly jealous! Whilst the panels can be sourced relatively cheaply (£15 from questionable eBay sources) the holders seem to be the same sort of money, which obviously doesn't sit well with a tight arse like me. Did you splash the cash for holders, or did you fab something up? I'm wondering about either 3D printing some U channel or getting a bit cowboy and getting some U channel and lobbing that horizontally on the ceiling (which isn't a ceiling yet!).

Also, you do realise that you are going to have to create something similar to what I am doing for my boys, only you'll execute it a lot better;

Yeah the light frames are a PITA. I pondered over it all for far too long. Eventually after I'd had enough whiskey one evening I ordered the cheapest ones I found on ebay. They work out at <£7 each. Sure it adds up, but sometimes you've got to pick your battles mate...

I've got 16 panels, so making a system to suspend them would have taken ages. These are super neat, simple, and I got them all up (above the skyline) the day before I moved the car in... so I've been right up against it with everything, just the way I like it lol.



I'll take it all with me if when I move house too lol.

Hello all.

Here's the new shed.



The 32 is safe and happy. But I've still got some tools to rebuild and a few jobs to do for other people which will be the content for a while.

I'm hoping to get some more concrete data on GpA components in the next few months, if that comes off then some pretty significant things will happen with the car next year. Very exciting, but massively hard work and big expense to get there.

Another update. All the tools are kind of up and running now. R32 process has really progressed behind the scenes, although nothing physical yet!

Hello everyone.

There's been a lot of networking and lining up of progress for the 32. So progress soon. Also been in contact with some really fantastic people in japan who are able to help with info on some of the more niche parts.

The shed has come on a bit. I did some cast iron repair to a meddings drill that I need to paint now. I've extended two sumps for people. And recently I've made this fixture table.

For anyone unfamiliar. It's a flat welding surface that allows you to clamp parts and jigs down through 16mm holes. This will help me with the suspension arms, 3rd links, and exhaust components which will be done this year.

Hope you enjoy. I'm kind of reluctant to post too much 'non car' stuff in here.



Also did brands in the M3 last week. Great car. Had some noise issues in the afternoon with a broken exhaust flap, but back at the end of feb. Brakes are great. Well. Front ones.

Haha sorry. They are keeping me busy, and also gone back to school to do a masters on top of work, which I wouldn’t recommend.

But there has been progress… mostly organisational and permission progress. Perhaps I can share some snips next month on it but I’m limited in what I can photograph / film.

I have filmed some of a new component I’ve been fabricating though, and hopefully the first video of this little series will be up in the next couple weeks:

PH only update. Big day for the build yesterday, this is the definition of a personal project spiralling out of control.

I secured a day with all the components I need, mag uprights, tubular 3rd links, arms, hardware, hubs etc. Parts with complex surface geometry were scanned and others I measured with old school kit.



So a bit of a gap now, couple of weeks post processing scan data. Then it’ll be a months work or so for me to model from that.

The complexity was perhaps higher than I anticipated, despite having a parts list for these cars… but I’ve captured enough to keep me busy and bankrupt for the rest of the year.

The home Warco and future CNC plans are just for my own amusement, perhaps some little brackets & whatnot in the future. It wouldn't be up to these components. A company is going to produce these parts, they have a large HURCO 4 axis. Later in the year when things are getting cut I'll try and drop a gopro down there.

Yeah the printer has been useful for checking some references already, but these scans I'll correlate with some specific hand measurements I took on the day with mics & bore mics. For lols I'm printing everything in half scale though, which will help to ensure compatibility between all the 'new' parts.

I tend to use whatever I can get my hands on for CAD... although I don't do it for work anymore, its historically been pro-E, solidworks or catia. The software in the photo is the scanners, and he has another package for post processing STL files which is more capable than previously listed packages for that specific job.

Cheers mate, yes I went through a few options. Difficulty was fitting the component availability around my own life. I could have taken them home for ~5 days and initially the plan was to CMM it, but it would have been a big stress to get it done in that time around family, as you say, CMM is time consuming. It also doesn't lend itself too well to complex surfaces.

This way I pay a man, and i get given post processed auto-surfaced models with reference planes and axes pulled out. Then I build my models inside these. A good middle ground to balance cost and time.

Yep - sticker dots give really clear reference points so the software can align all the other points. Originally I was going to get the whole floor scanned (and more actually), its more than capable. But I realised it was more of a 'nice to have' and chose to focus on the genuinely specific group A components. But it would be a perfect tech for your needs.

Scan data is starting to cascade down to me. First item in is the 3rd link. For those not familiar, the skyline has a sort of multi link setup, and this 3rd link run from the upper arm, attaching to the front upright via a kingpin.

On the standard cars, it’s made from pressed steel. But on the gpA it’s tubular setup to increase rigidity. The forces these have to deal with is quite extreme; even on the standard car I’ve squeezed poly bushes through the top braking into paddock at brands…

The scan data comprised of a wafty surface model, and then critically axes and centrelines for bolt holds and tubes. I then built a new solid model from this; all separate components as individual bodies so they can be sent off for CNC bending / laser cutting. The sheet metal add in makes easy work of flattening any bent patterns too.

Full model could then be built into a jig, all this is off to the laser cutters and will be the next thing I fabricate. I also need the tubes CNC bent with a roller capable of varying centre line radii. So if anyone knows anyone… also would like them laser profiled.

Ok PHers. I may have got slightly distracted. M3 is gone, turns out I still find trackdays a bit boring and there’s no good roads around here.

I was going to have a few blissful months only owning one car, but then this came up and it’s yellow.

Yeah, it was for sale years ago but never sold. Missing some important bits and not looked after for a long time. Typical video with lack of understanding, in period they were lovely. Pulled wings & plastic boxes are all late life club abuse.

They homologated loads of brakes, always had problems with cooling. Later years saw that water cooling circuit dependant. It's actually the reason for the funny oil cooler setup on the calsonic, more air to the brakes.

Nah, no need for ease. Main detail is that it was cheap. But its a 944 with an S2 engine. Was raced in Future Classics for years, until it was sat up doing nothing for 5. Needs minor work to get going for next year, mainly up to date bits, service, but its pretty much ready.
