Looking good Alex - enjoying the shed temporary deviation - stick at it you’ll soon be back on the car again
Cheers buddy, shouldn't be long now. And it'll make the videos much nicer too, lighter and better to watch. I did see you from a distance at RRW, but I was behind a fence (that's where they keep me) and you were in the zone so I couldn't say hello.
You're making the rest of us look bad, you know.
Congrats on the progress, the car, the kid, the skills, the R32... I have to assume that the rest of your life that doesn't get posted is an absolute train-wreck to counter-balance some of the manliness. That or I really need to get my st together...

Haha, yeah, rest of my life is a mess mate!Congrats on the progress, the car, the kid, the skills, the R32... I have to assume that the rest of your life that doesn't get posted is an absolute train-wreck to counter-balance some of the manliness. That or I really need to get my st together...
Well done mate, that shed's looking excellent! Like your choice of daily too
I'd be interested in what it looks like with your car and bits inside - what are you internal dimensions? Also, if you don't mind me asking, can you give me a ball-park cost for the completed thing? My house purchase is going through so I'm going to be doing something very similar in the not-too-distant future. Although I think I'd want a proper pitch roof so I can get a ramp in there...

Haha, not a daily, actually more of a track / weekend car. Look, these arrived yesterday! I'd be interested in what it looks like with your car and bits inside - what are you internal dimensions? Also, if you don't mind me asking, can you give me a ball-park cost for the completed thing? It'll suddenly get smallllll when it gets a car and everything in there dude. But I've made it as big as I can inside. I'll give it a measure but its about 5.5 x 6.
Cost wise... I think the slab cost me about 2k. That's because I did everything myself, so costs are digger rental, skips (20t removed), concrete, pump truck, hardcore, sand, mesh. Slab is big, 7m3. Strong lad.
The three courses of bricks cost me about £250 in materials to do. Again, did it all myself so no labour. Borrowed a mixer off a mate.
Now the structure... this is where it gets ugly because of brexitiers. Timber costs have more than doubled. All the constructional timber, hardie planks (fire proof cladding), OSB, few other bits, probably came in at 5k. I've got another 2k to spend on internal boarding and insulation and then its done.
So total 9k? You could probably triple that if you paid other people to do the work.
Unit rent went up to 250 a month, So it'll pay for itself in 3 years. We're planning to be here for 5, so no brainer Plus it means I get time to work on the skyline. And should we sell the house and someone is looking for a space to build another Group A skyline in, it might add some value to the property.
In terms of the roof. I managed to take advantage of a garden slope, which means my peak is essentially at 2.7m. I thought I'd get it built quicker, so didn't apply for planning for >3m. Although in hindsight I could have had time to get planning, I'm kind of glad I didn't. Any bigger would have been really intrusive in the surroundings. The 'fake flat' construction I have done using the steel has kept the eaves height to 2.6m too, so internally its 2.45m.
Although I wouldn't be able to walk under a car, I've specced the slab for a lift. I thought I'd like the option to put a 2m low level lift in there. Even getting a car off the ground would be nice. But I'll review the space once I'm in. If I were living somewhere with more space, yes, I'd have it as tall as possible.

Enjoyed watching on the IG mate. Good to see.
Cheers buddy. Enjoying keeping an eye on your OTT clio antics too man. You're mental. Bits bits bits. She's clad lads. Had a friend come round and help with this because they're long and heavy, the boards. Rubber roof is also laid down but not bonded, and the facias are done. Rubber seemed the most sensible cost wise, also because of the angle it was the best at the job.
The inside is the main focus at the moment. I've insulated the whole chap with 70mm PIR, walls and ceiling, so there's a 30mm air gap before the outer OSB. Then I put a thick vapour barrier over the entire thing, and have been boarding up with 9mm (its all I could afford) OSB.
Priority is to get out of the unit in October. So I'm aiming to get the last bit of boarding finished, the inside painted, and then just move stuff in. I'll fabricate the doors once all my tools are here because I'll probably make them from steel.
I can't imagine I'll be spending much time on the skyline even when it's finished. Ran out of money, so will be looking to spend more time with the family, do some fabrication jobs out of hours, and drive the m3. I'll let the '32 progress pick up naturally.
Got the bearings on the '92 done too. She's had quite a few blokes in her, bless her. Because I don't know how they all treated her it made sense. They're medium really, but the older style bearings and the rear cylinders were showing a little exposed copper. Now it's something I don't need to worry about. I cant afford to rebuild an RB26 and an S65. Actually I cant afford to rebuild either.
Not long, give me a few weeks and we'll be moving stuff. I'm going to have to bolt some bits to the shell to make it roll, so I'll probably have a video of that at the end of sept.

Both shed and bearings look pretty good. EPDM roof will only take you an evening to bond and fix, did mine last night bar the corner trims.
Where did you get your insulation from, casting my net to try and find the cheapest supplier!
PGR timber, I just email / ring through builders merchants and go with the cheapest. Prices are pretty ugly at the moment as I'm sure you're finding. Where did you get your insulation from, casting my net to try and find the cheapest supplier!
Got a pic with your roof on?
This thread has somehow passed me by until now but having watched the first couple of build videos I'm now hooked and you have a new sub.
Going to take me a while to get up to date but keep those videos coming Alex, you're a very watchable chap and appreciate the lack of bullst + simple production style of the videos.

Welcome along man and cheers, you'll soon catch up mate. Babies and shed build have stopped any videos for 4 months! hopefully more soon though. That's starting to look like a nice little workshop - look forward to seeing the car and tools in and seeing what it looks like filled
As far as running out of money goes - you'll just have to do those little jobs that cost nothing and contribute to moving the project forward
True, ive got a few little bits. And if I get any BMW distractions I may film them too. Frantically trying to balance priorities before a trackday next week that I shouldnt be doing. As far as running out of money goes - you'll just have to do those little jobs that cost nothing and contribute to moving the project forward

Top view foreshortens the garden and the talc still hasn't washed off so it looks enormous. Sedum roof going on to make it a bit nicer though.
Just need to trim rubber and fit corner/joiner trims.
