Wow. 3d printing is the future! Will make manufacturing far more efficient.

Wonder what materials you can 3d print in, metals/carbon fibre?

I expect the F1 teams have the latest tech on this, to make the complex front wings its a must I would think

Plenty of metals can be 3d printed, Atherton bikes are using 3d titanium printing for lugs combined with carbon tubes. Really very cool tech, if I had a workshop/tool room I'd be looking at a printer just for cool fun.

How on earth do you 3d print metal, surely it needs melting first?

latest tech on this is aerospace and defence

metal is relatively easy nowadays

Via sintering, normally.

Front wings are still carbon layup. Not really ideal for 3D printing.

3d printing is great for low volume parts and prototyping (which is low volume by definition) but for volume production it'll be long time (if ever) before printing can beat moulding/casting/stamping etc.

I'd agree that low volume and prototyping is currently the best use of 3D printing, but it does seem to be used increasingly in manufacturing, there seems to be a future for it. There are apparently some 3D printed cars out there.

Correct, but at present very slow, it's also not certified for air worthiness for stress reasons, sintering is is a great way of producing complex difficult to machine parts but due to the process takes quite a long time to print a single part, most printers will print multiple parts on a base plate at the same time, usually either 4 or 6 pieces.

There is a chance that Missy may have to be moved on next year, SWMBO is struggling to find a seating position that suits her. I'll keep plugging away, but not looking good.

With the seat far enough fwds to reach the pedals she cant change gear as her arm hits the bolster.

IF we move it on, it won't be until after the youngest daughters prom

That’s irritating, the slk seats don’t look that deep a bolster either.

Is it worth a fitting with the original seats?

Lack of height adjustment ment that was a non starter, the problems of a 4'11" partner

Seems amazing !
Where are from your pillar seal ?
I’m looking to change mine .

Thanks

More progress, once the rain had stopped.

Managed to get the A pillar seal carriers fitted & did a test fit of the new seals before committing to Sikaflex.

Also plugged in one of the LED headlights I found on EBAY to see how it compares....

How are you getting on with the SLK seats?

Appreciate the height issue re the change; the seats in my old S2 were fine in a trip from Norfolk to Normandy, then the Ypres Lotus day and back again.

However, going from Norfolk to Nottingham and back in a day in Mrs L's R171 SLK gave us both backache.
