I bought an SV - BIG Build thread

True - just a bit concerned that when you stop at Tescos in Cuzco or Almaty you'll need to use at least three parking bays to be able to load provisions.
You aren't wrong Lily. But there will be more storage facilities and also a short pop up ladder for those pesky supermarket stops. J1990 said:
Really enjoying this, looking forward to seeing that interior coming together and for you to be unleashed on the roads.
Once the build is complete, I'm assuming the intention is to continue with the videos as you explore the world?
Absolutely! That's going to be half of it all isn't it? Going places and discovering stuff. Like just where she won't fit Once the build is complete, I'm assuming the intention is to continue with the videos as you explore the world?

I assume it is as most cameras are pretty poor wide angle...
What's the timescale/plan for the fit-out PB51? DIY or getting another fitter to get on it?
Currently almost all my filming is done with my phone. Hopefully this will improve as I invest in better kit. What's the timescale/plan for the fit-out PB51? DIY or getting another fitter to get on it?
The next part is sort of combination, of part DIY and part pro fitters. E.g. I intend to do a lot of the straight forward stuff such as cutting holes, running cables, screwing down mounts or cable clips. The difficult stuff, like making a 90degree corner actually be 90 degrees, I will leave to the professionals . This allows me flexibility and to revisit something quickly if needed. It also means I can adopt different ideas. I have a saying which is 'I don't have the monopoly on good ideas - speak up'.
It also allows me to understand the entire fit out inside. So if there is an issue later, I'm better clued up to how to resolve that.
That's the theory anyway.

Thanks Boberoo.
@Scrump - Lithium Ion. Half the weight/size for same power (or twice the power for the same size/weight). These 200AH batteries are the same weight as the 125AH wet cell I've ordered.
But most importantly they can be discharged to 80% of their capacity. Whereas wet cell are around 50%. Finally, LiPo can manage 3,000 cycles. Which, if I used all of the power, every day, would last 10 about years. Double that of AGM deep cycle.
At £2k a pop, I wasn't going to bother. But at what I paid it was a no brainer.

This really is an excellent project.
I hope that you get good use from it. Iceland is an amazing place and even a Dacia Duster was fun, although it didn't have the heft for crossing the toughest rivers. Your truck should be able to cope with any of the river crossings.
"Without preparation the MAN HX60 fords water obstacles up to 1.2 m deep. With preparation it can ford up to 1.5 m"
Indeed. One reason to go in summer. I don't expect to have much of a problem I hope that you get good use from it. Just watched the latest vlog and see you're off to the Faroes - we went there for a wedding a few years back and it's a really beautiful country and massively different to anywhere we'd been before. Make sure you take a small phrase book with you as Faroese isn't on Google Translate! Younger people all speak English fine but you can't rely on that with older people or outside of the capital, where I expect you'll be heading.
Great tip, thanks. I might just rely on the basic point and talk loudly concept loudlashadjuster said:
Yeah, they also give you a big spiel on basically not leaving paved or other areas obviously intended for cars. Potential for big fines if you do. I imagine you will have to consider this.
Yeah, this is a consideration. Something I need to check into as there are weight limits on bridges and stuff. Might end up going in the 'Trol and chuck a roof tent on it Origin Unknown said:
Just watched this, what was that fella in the 350k overlander doing approaching the descent as he did?!
Yeah, to be fair to him he had not done any off road driving at that point and the truck was only out on that ground to test a new torsion set up (which was deemed too flexible). The film crew wanted footage of the owner driving even though previously it was the converters who had driven it around. Bobberoo said:
Another good video Project, a question, do you already have reverse parking cameras? If so a double din unit with A/V input could be a good idea, it could also be useful as a sat vav display, the downside is a double din is obviously more expensive than a single din.
Thanks Bobberoo. Yes, I have two cameras and a big Garmin Sat with twin inputs. So the plan is to have one reverse and one nearside camera. Also an input on the double din is a good idea. I already have a double din, having pre purchased a brand new (factory recon) Pioneer high end unit. Me and my bargains eh? Downside to that was I bought it with an 'estimation' that I could make it fit. Now it's come to it..... whole different matter
I did. Then I looked at the dash and thought, that would take a double din.
Then, I got me a lovely double din Pioneer top flight thing for very low pounds and I was all happy.
Then I took a proper look at the dash and what I thought was just a mounting plate for the switches was in fact moulded. Doh.
If it's not workable then I won't bother and I will purchase a single din motorised and sell the double din off.
Hardest bit is going to be fitting speakers. It has two cut outs for 4" on the top of the dash about 15cm apart
How do you get stereo from that? I've had ghetto blasters^ with speakers further apart than that.
^apologies if that expression isn't pc - it's what I know them as.

I have a pair of 'Loudest' brand 6x9's from a previous project and they are going in custom boxes behind and run off an amp. The front will be a couple of full range 4" (to fit in the dash) and a pair of Focal or similar angled tweeters.
Got to sound & thermal mat the floor and tunnel first mind.
Thanks for the offer, appreciated.
