I drove a few miles in my 370Z yesterday, and I didn't get many opportunities to rev it right out to 7500rpm. So I'd have liked a supercharger...because then you get the performance much lower down in the revs I'd imagine.

Small update time: the 370Z has barely done 100 miles this year through a combination of COVID, working from home and the lack of use and cold weather killed the battery! I’m 99% sure it was the original battery however, so ten years ain’t bad. New battery has now been fitted so all good.
The exciting news is the car is getting its new exhaust next month! I’ve had a full cat-back system priced up by Stainless Creations in Falkirk. Their custom exhausts are very competitively priced compared to the off the shelf systems from the likes of Scorpion, Borla, Milltek etc and I’ve only heard good things about them. A friend has used them for his Z4 and the quality of work is brilliant. I’m still to decide the details of silencers, tip style etc but I’m hoping to pay them a visit soon to tick all the boxes and get the car booked in.

I have no idea how I missed this thread first time out. Love the car, and love what you're doing to it - the black roof really works!
I had two 350Zs and also a 370Z GT Roadster (pretty much identical to Cerb4.5Lee's), and I loved every single one, particularly the 370Z - just damn good cars, and none of them ever put a foot wrong, 100% reliable.
I used to work for Nissan and spent 3 years in Japan, some of which was spent at the Tochigi factory, where the Z/Fairlady is built - the plant was recognised as building the best quality cars internally by Nissan, so little wonder they seem to be pretty bullet proof (read door mechs aside!).
Really glad you're still showing the love for it for it during this Covid clusterfk!

My battery would be dead as well if it wasn't for the trickle charger...because I've not used it since Dec 14th(I'm really missing driving it to be fair). Great news regarding the exhaust. I will look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.
Lovely car, I had a 2013 version in silver for 3 years and 2 years after getting rid I still miss it.
I have kept the cargo net though and promised my wife we'll get another one because of that
Mine lunched the clutch slave cylinder at 20k which is apparently a common fault and it had brake judder for most of my time with it, again a common issue, but I never got round to changing the discs.
They're a fantastic car and nowhere near as agricultural as the motoring press seem to think, 7500rpm really never felt like a strain at all.
Re-the exhaust, have you listened to the car being driven by someone else?
I got the wife to do a few drive-bys and it was pretty loud, especially when it did the rev matching blip - very clear even from about 3/4 mile away.
I felt rather guilty about starting it up in the morning to go to work but found out all the neighbours quite liked it!
I hope you get as much enjoyment from yours as I did from mine

New cat-back exhaust has been fitted and my oh my what a difference! The guys at Stainless Creations have done a great job, it’s such an improvement; this is what the car should sound like from the factory. With the stock exhaust that big 3.7L V6 is strangled by a rubbish and basic 2” exhaust with far too much silencing and some back-pressure issues.
The new full stainless system is 3” pipe all the way from the cats to the backbox, with much smaller mid-silencers. Instead of going to an X-pipe with two entries into the back box, The new system goes to a Y-pipe after the silencers and enters the backbox at a single point. This has two benefits, first the sound waves are no longer entering the backbox at two opposite points and cancelling each other out, and secondly it saves about four feet of pipe for a tiny weight reduction. The backbox itself is smaller than stock and finishes in a set of 4” tips.
The headlines are;
- startup is much more of an event
- sounds much better at idle and has a great burble
- Disregarding volume, the sound itself is more tuneful and actually sounds like a V6 even at low revs
- under full load above 3,000rpm it sounds proper racecar
- noticeable increase in power around the upper third of the rev range
- Barely any increase in noise at motorway speeds
Couldn’t be happier with it. I can see why a new exhaust is such a common mod for 370Z’s; an aftermarket one just highlights how useless the standard system is!

Nice one. Pleased that you're happy with it. I definitely agree that they need freeing up exhaust wise. I certainly prefer an aftermarket system in comparison to the standard set up for sure. Enjoy the improvement.
I’ve got another track day coming up, so the rear brakes have been upgraded to EBC Ultimax discs and Redstuff pads to match the front.
Old brakes were pretty knackered
Massive difference, felt like the big rusty hub behind the rear wheels was letting the look down somewhat. Got to love black coated discs
Last time I was on track the car had well-worn OEM discs and pads all round, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what proper track-capable brakes feel like.

Knockhill track evening was huge fun, not 100% dry but definitely drier than last time. Getting more comfortable with the car and circuit but it was still too damp for proper hot laps.
The new brakes help up great, took a good amount of punishment before they started to fade.

MOT passed yesterday with zero advisories apart from minimal tread left on the rear tyres (which I knew about anyway) although they did tell me my offside rear has a nail in it! So that’ll be two new rear tyres ASAP then, which is a good thing as my friends and I had a stupid idea....
In a couple of weeks we’re going to do a weekend road trip, taking in much of the NC500 roads, then immediately head to Knockhill for an all-day trackday on the Monday. I’ve worked out this will pretty much be three full tanks of fuel, in three days, in a car with a 16 gallon fuel tank. Sorry wallet....

Smart move avoiding the A9 Perth to Inverness, as it will be pain with tourists/buses/campers/lorries and average speed cameras the whole way, North of that you'll enjoy the roads/scenery, but the roads are still pretty busy up here with Campers/Caravans.
Just keep an eye out for the camera vans, unmarked cars in lays, and lurking just off the main road.
I've not seen many unmarked Northern constabulary cars recently, but they are normally big blue/black BMW/Audi/Volvos
If your staying overnight anywhere in the North or West highland make sure you take midge repellent, as they can ruin a holiday in seconds.
Also if you run on Premium fuel, you better fill up in inverness when your passing, I'm not sure you'll get decent octane petrol North or West off Inverness.
