Yup, I reckoned that it would be in the 350 quid zone.

Marco, mehanico marvelloso e mobile, is on site right now, and he says

The issue does look to be one of carburation and - guess what? - someone has taken off the Weber 34 DMS, and fitted some sort of Solex, that needs a repair (or replacement by a Weber). Marco is right now checking the timing as well.

I would take pics of the work in progress, but I am in London eating pasta, and the car is in Oxfordshire.

with a quick google search that was the only one i found so i dont know how rare these are but you may want to get in quick ,unless you want to wait and see if the solex can be tuned to work.

surprised the solex fitted the weber manifold could be a whole can of worms. good luck

I know right? Me, I blame those English people, me. Takes an Irishman to look after an Italian car on this benighted island.

I have been reading up on the 1960s to 1980s Fiats, and also on the rallying and other motorsport of those decades. This has led me off to reading about various rally drivers of that era. I thought that I knew a bit about 70s motorsport, but I realise that I really only knew a bit about 70s Formula 1. This means that until this morning I had never heard of Michele Mouton, who only narrowly missed becoming World Rally Champion in a year when the eventual winner was Walter Roehlr. My bad!

Fiat connection: not much, but she did drive for Fiat France for a while. She was evidently a hugely talented driver, and it's a real shame that since her day it seems that few other women drivers have been able to get good team drives in rallying. Motorsport is still so blokey.

Ooof....! Not exactly the same model, it's only twenty miles from me, but where would I put it....? The little alloys are ace....

As for those fabulous old ads you've posted - I now can't stop talking in a very fast, butch cod Italian accent, throwing in the few Italian words I actually know..... ''Quando, quando, on days like these, multa bene, ciao Giancarlo, uno presente la Ferruccio Lamborghini vino avec un new motor, John....''.

And I still have a stack of '70s 'Politzia' films to watch on dvd, most of them have English subtitles but the ones with no subtitles at all are a joy to just sit back and take in.... driving

The Haynes BOOK OF LIES claims that a Solex was an option for this car.

Talking of Haynes, the RAC's magazine "Pell Mell and Woodcote" recently ran a feature on the Haynes family and their business - quite a fun story.

Just remember, children, refitting is the reverse of removal. Rating: one spanner, piece of piss, even you could do it.

(twelve hours later, in the dark, bleeding from every knuckle, he finally runs out of swear words ...)

That 127 is DA NUTZ. Just get it. It's a bargain.

Those polizia films are awesome! Mega hairdos, 'taches, leather jackets, massive amounts of violence, and car chases. Too good.

Indeed, I'm quite happy to eat their lunches but the line is drawn a long way before carburettors (even on a Land Rover)

I'd love too chief but with me being sans barn it would have to sit outside and fizz quietly to itself between spirited drives round the back lanes of Warwickshire, besides, I've got my heart set on a Maser of some description, although having said that a very tasty looking '72 Alfetta GTV is currently in my crosshairs for not too many sovs. Meanwhile I shall make amends by posting some gratuitously shameless Politzia material instead....

George Hilton, star of many a Politzia and Giallo flic....

And some more ace Fiat / Italianate froth....

My very wicked friend who has a totally broken Lancia Gamma and many other fine heaps reminds me that in my barn I have two rebuilt Dellorto 45s that belong to a Lotus 912 engine, but are not doing anything right now. Ha! Negative MPG figures plus BAZOOM!

I like Mr Fiat's tailor almost as much as I like his cars. As for the geezer in the trench coat and shades, he is rocking a Steve McQueen on a motorbike level of cool.

Solex & Weber pretty interchangable in period. In theory Dellorto were possible but much rarer. TBH these base carbs are not much different. Weber will probably do a new carb kit for it.

In one of his films he's wearing a white polo neck with long brown leather car coat, the sort with the belt dangling nonchelantly from little loops around the waistline, cool as f**k.

This is a corker, it's somewhere in Milan despite the plates on the Dino....
