The ideal car for daughter BV:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...

Looks quite tidy and with group3 (of 50) insurance, decent amount of service history, air-con and no ULEZ charge if she should visit you in the Great Wen it ticks all boxes, plus is ITALIAN smile Only downside is that you will have to collect it from the heart of the scenic* Black Country (note background to photos frown) but is only 10 mins from the M5 and then onto the M40 smile

Have they built it wrong? There's a lot of it about.

I was big into cars between ages 5 and 15. Then I forgot all about cars. When I did my test aged 27, I thought that cars were boring A to B transport, and I intended to buy the cheapest and most boring car that I could find.
Wait a minute. You took your driving licence test at 27? Or was that a typo?

Not criticising, just curious.

What do you think he might have intended to write: 26 or 28, and would they be any different? The other possibility would be 27 - hardly worth mentioning.

I despair of people.

He might have passed his driving test at 17, correct? Hence my question. It sounded as if indeed he took it when he was 27 though.

I, for one, did not take my driving test until I was 26; I found it amusing that I may not be the only one in that kind of situation among this very much car/driving oriented folk.

(I am sorry you despair of people. It happens to me too, sometimes.)

Amusingly, I made a typographical error and wrote 27 where I intended to write 17.

Hopefully, my berating you makes more sense in this context.

Amusing indeed.

Let's leave it there, shall we?

Have a good evening.

PS: Daily Mail reader ex wife is terrified of Covid, does not much like me to take our daughter in an old car, would not let me buy our daughter an old car, and encourages her to ski only on the (dangerously crowded) pistes, rather than on the (uncrowded and safe if you have the training and equipment) off-piste areas, BUT, you guessed it .....

... she is totes down with our daughter getting a job in which actual bad people may shoot at her with actual missiles and actual bullets, possibly while she is strapped into something very pointy and very fast that has big flames coming out of the back. Logic, innit.
When I drop off the choonz-age, you’re more than welcome to pass on my deets if she has any questions about it. Having spent the last couple of decades dispensing high-explosive justice from the skies of ‘insert Middle Eastern country here’ I may be able to provide at least some advice...

Although I would encourage her to pick up a map and confirm the locations of Coningsby, Marham and Lossiemouth relative to London!

Cheers! Very kind! The possibility of freezing her toes off on some below sea level wasteland in the Fens, or in some terrible land of deep fried pizza, when not dying of heatstroke or actual explodiness whilst far away winning hearts and minds/ bombing for peace and democracy, and in each case many miles from The Ivy, is something that she is pondering.

I passed my driving test at 27. Sorry, 26 but nearly 27. Before then I just saw no need to have a car. I lived in cities thoughout my teenage and young adult years. In those days public transport was ok. I went on holiday in cities. I sometimes wish that cars had never re entered my life after over a decade of absence. But I'm also glad that they did, obvs.

My contribution; owned by us until around 1986, a 132 1800ES.

Also on Cromadoras, with the single-Weber 1756cc engine. It’s Tropical Orange paint and brown bri-nylon trim remain etched on my memory.

I drove it (underage) a couple of times, loving it’s fizzy exhaust note..
My dad had a silver one of those with a Webasto roof and blue interior. I have very fond memories of a trip down to lake Garda in it, getting wonderful views of the underside of the Brenner Pass bridge through the open sun roof
Thanks for that. thumbup

I bought an oyster gold metallic one of those in 1981that had a brown vinyl roof fitted with a Webasto and some squidgy brown velour seats! I've no idea why because I already had a Rover P6 3500S, although the Fiat handled much better!

That's probably why I P/Exd it at Godfreys of Cheam for a Kawasaki 650, because weirdly they were main agents for both brands.

Apologies for straying off topic, but at least it does relate to an 1800 twin-cam Fiat!

I'm loving your dedication to your classics BV, and that you use them regularly. thumbup

Thinking back, I had the 1800 engine out of an automatic gold 132ES that I put into my 131. It had the old 1585cc pushrod engine, and the previous owner seemed unaware that you needed to put oil in it every now and again. The 132 engine gave it a new lease of life with a nice uplift in oomph.

That's set me up for the day that has - long day ahead, down to that London, up to Crewe and back south again, sadly not via Rome, Milan or Turin. Can't post old Italian car pics whilst at work. Bugger!
