I was at my trustee Indy on Friday, collecting my car from some work being done. My MoT is due 10th August, and I wanted to stick with the annual date, it’s in for a service at the same time anyway.

I was trying to book for the 10th, on the basis that I didn’t want to lose time and the lady booking me in, who is normally very on the ball, told me they had received communication to say that after 1st August, extension will no longer apply, so she booked me in for the 2nd instead.

Anyone heard similar?

She could have still booked you for the 10th. You would not lose any MOT, would you?
Maybe she didn't realise it was expiring the 10th.
But yeah, I've also read the covid extension stops from 1st August.

Why would you loose anything booking in a few days before?
You get 12 from from the expiry date (if tested within the last month of current test) not 12 month from test date

In years gone by, I've sold cars and advertised them with 13 months MOT.
If you put your car in up to a month before you get 12 months from the expiry date.

One of my cars already benefited from the extension last month.

Another my cars is due on 22nd July but to be honest I'll probably just do this one on time.

In normal circs yes. But if the 6 months extension was added, I would be say, 6 months and 20 something days from the end of the test, and as such I would lose out by the 20 something days, because test is more than a month away!

Hence why I was trying to book in on the 10th, because then I’d get the full 12 months. Car is not old and in decent Nick, so I’m expecting a clean ticket

I normally book in as close as I can to one month before, to give me most time to sort issues

Just tell them you want it on the 10th. Problem solved.

Well sort of. Other than I’m going on holiday on the 10th. I did book for the 7th, but anyway, no need as the extensions have been stopped. Which was what I was seeking confirmation of in my OP

Fair enough, the original question became lost in the debate smile
